Is Pearl trashy?

I was thinking of Pearl for DD but people I've mentioned it to have said it's trashy.

I did notice that Shaun Ryder has a DD called Pearl (other is Lulu) and am this is putting me off a bit - espec as he was mentioning his 'Pearly' often on TV.

Also there's Vanessa George...!!

Well, my 5 year old dd is called Pearl (Pearlie!) and I like to think we are not trashy .

I am not sure who Shaun Ryder and Vanessa George are though, so maybe I am wrong .

Actually we call Pearl Lulu a lot as a nn (Pearlula turned into Lula, turned into Lulu!)

I don't thinkit's trashy. It's just old fashioned. Can she sing?

The only Pearl I know is a rather formidable lady who despite being over 80 still works for the CAB and goes to NUT conferences.

My mother hates it, but I slighty regret not using it as a mn for DD2 as I didn't want to get into family name arguments.

I'm afraid I agree with the others you've spoken to. I thought about not posting because I didn't want to be rude, but I'm guessing you asked the question because you actually want people's opinions. I think she might be judged for it if she grows up and wants to be an MP, doctor, lawyer etc. That's just my opinion though - I'm sorry if it's not the answer you hoped for!

A name doesn't make someone trashy. And pearl is lovely :)

My friend's little DD2 is named after her great grandmother, Pearl is a lovely pretty name and I see no reason why you wouldn't be a lawyer/doctor/mountaineer or anything else with the name!

The Pearl I know would have been a lawyer if it had been a career girls went into in her day.

In most professions you're only known by your surname anyway so why the heck would it matter? I mean, there is currently a well known lawyer called Cherie.

It does make me think of a rather hard/hard faced middle aged woman,because the only Pearls I know fit that image.

What does 'trashy' mean? Has it to do with class, with style or what? I honestly struggle to understand these British 'classifications' of names - too posh, too pretentious, too chav and now too 'trashy' ..

Personally I really like Pearl and find it very elegant and more interesting than the overused Ruby.
