Highlandgirl · 30/11/2010 09:25

Wow Melina this is brilliant....! Ta very much.

Alastair - Love
Alexander - Love
Elliott - Nope
Garrett - blaaaa
George - Love
Henry - Love
Ignatius - Yeh what...?
Jeremy - Like
Joaquin - Nope
Leonard - Nope
Matthew - DH said No
Nicholas - Might be a middle name
Ptolemy - Errrr what?
Ralph /Rafe - DH said No
Reuben - Any DH said No
Theodore - DH said it's common 'overused'
Tobias - TOBY??
Tristan - I WANT THIS NAME....DH Said No. Can you see my problem...?
Winston - Maybe for the dog.

Aura Not so keen on Jimmy, but love Jamie and James. Really like Archie, but had an ex who's last name was Archibald..so that's out.

Currently trying to think of names of people we know who are in late 20's early 30's as these seem to be really unused names...like Daniel and Simeon.

What about Richie instead of ARchie. I think ARchie is lovely too.

Saul and Guy seem in the same style as James and huge.
Toby is a good name, not overused.
What about Leo instead of Theo? I think Leo's popularity less affected by trends. Or I could be wrong. HAVEN'T studied the rankings.

Highlandgirl · 30/11/2010 18:33

Valium I suggested Leo as we have a long surmane, however DH is a child of the 70's and can't think of anything other than Leo Sayer...! Hmm

FIL is called Richard, so not really keen on that and if we had a Richie it would have to be Richard....

Ranking wise: Archie was no: 20.

Funny that Daniel was no: 10, yet haven't heard it that much didn't think it was that high up the list.

Really like Charlie but again it's up at the top end of the list and i'm not keen on standing at the school gate with 4 or 5 other mums waiting for a Charlie...!!!

James is such a good sounding name though

ShoppingDays · 30/11/2010 18:50

Jeremiah
Samuel
Maximilian/Max
Peter
Gregory
Thomas
Silas

Takver · 30/11/2010 18:57

Giles

I've missed something, though - if you both like James and Hugh, why not call bump that?

Highlandgirl · 30/11/2010 19:44

Takver you have a very good point...! James and Hugh are good names..

ShoppingDays I like Samuel but maybe Sam. DH hates Max (only boy he's every hit...) Not so keen on Silas but the others are great.

OP posts:
Edmundo · 30/11/2010 20:08

Gus
Louis
Giles

Highlandgirl · 30/11/2010 20:17

Takver my brother is Hugh do you think that would be a problem..?

I've asked him (my brother) and he's said, I would think you would call the baby, Hugh because it's a good name and not after me.

OP posts:
Takver · 30/11/2010 20:46

I wouldn't mind myself - I would have liked to call dd after DH's sister (because she has a good name, and I think its nice to use family names) - but DH didn't like the idea. So I guess it depends how you feel about it . . .

mathanxiety · 01/12/2010 15:37

Leo
Joseph (Joe)
Arnold
Conrad
Blaise
Jude
Silas
John
Jonah
Jonas
Hector
Thaddeus (Thad)
Isaac
Louis
Amos
Asa
Peter
Daniel
Otto
Nicholas
Fergus

I think calling the baby Hugh wouldn't be a problem, especially if your brother is fine with it. Hugh is a classic name, sort of outdoorsy imo... Good solid name and not a million of them.

Highlandgirl · 01/12/2010 16:27

Mathanxiety Awww thats for the list..I do like classic names. Mine is very very classic as is DH. Quite fancy being brave..but i'm too chicken.

I like:
Jude - Will never happen..!
John - My father!
Hector - LOVE
Peter - DH not keen on Pete
Daniel - DH not keen on Dan
Nicholas - Middle name?
Fergus - LOVE

Do like Otto but it's already been used...!

Maybe Hamish!?

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 01/12/2010 17:23

Hamish is really nice, and I think it means James actually.

Nicholas James?

grumpypants · 01/12/2010 17:25

Miles
Fergus
Douglas
Monty
Sebastian
Alasdair
Adair
(I have some of these)

Highlandgirl · 01/12/2010 20:06

Mathanxiety you are correct...Hamish is the vocative form of James in gaelic.

Grumpypants Fergus, Douglas and Alasdair i like sadly can't used Sebastian as my BF has just used it and my ex has called his DS Monty...!! Not so keen on Miles.

typsical · 01/12/2010 20:17

Blake..?

Highlandgirl · 02/12/2010 10:37

Typsical IMO Xmas Hmm Blake is nothing like Hugh or James....! Was thinking more along the classic names route...!

Hot boy band group through! Xmas Grin

typsical · 02/12/2010 13:46

:) I know, I just really like it so thought I would share it with you! x

Highlandgirl · 04/12/2010 11:52

Have found the classic boys thread really handy...!

Wonder if I can have a Hector..however my father told me a story about how is gran, took one look at him 62 years ago and said he looked like a "Hector". My Dad was killing himself laugh..Hector what a horrid name...bugger!!!

Clary · 04/12/2010 20:46

Springheeled jack I discovered the name Fairfax when pg with DS2.

Luckily DH laughed out loud when I told him - I say luckily as it means fair-haired and DS2 is dark. Also it's a bit bonkers, eh?

OP I find Hugh and James very different tbh.

Names like James in my neck of the woods (ie of similar level of popularity - high) might be

Matthew
Samuel
Daniel (amazed you think this is unused OP - I know a football team of 10 9yo lads and three are called Daniel)
Jack
Oliver
Thomas
Joseph

Names like Hugh might be more

Miles
Angus
Arlo
Fraser

SnailWhaleTail · 04/12/2010 21:05

I have a toddler Hugh and a school age Alec and would prob go for Miles if we had a DS3

Highlandgirl · 06/12/2010 14:03

Clary just out of interest..why do you think Hugh and James/Jamie are very different..?

I know Daniel is very high in the rankings, but I've really not heard it that much. Spot the first time Mum here Xmas Wink I don't really spend much time in play parks nor side of football pitches yet..this will no doubt change!

Always said I didn't want a name in the top ten...however I do like Thomas. DH won't have a first name with starting with a M as our surname starts with an M....!! Go figure.

Really like the Scottish names (not surprising given my name, but DH having none of it)

OP posts:
Highlandgirl · 06/12/2010 19:08

What about Tristan....!!!!?????
