titus or casper?

i'm stuck between Titus or Casper for my 1st baby son.

his middle name is to be felix, after his uncle.

any ideas?

Oh please don't land him with a name that starts "Tit". Did you never go to school?

i didn't actually, i was home educated so maybe i am unaware of the complexities that small children consider when it comes to bullying....

does it really matter, when it isn't actually pronounced 'tit'? am i just being cruel?

Casper is okay. Like Kaspar, too.

I prefer Casper and it goes better with Felix imho.

I'm sorry, but I think both will open him up to bullying. Titus because of the reasons MaryMungo listed and Casper because, well he's a ghost!!

Felix is not a favourite name of mine, but it is a much better option as his first name.

I must confess that I pondered what Titus could be shortened to and my first thought was Tit!

I prefer to Caspar to Casper.

I like Titus. I'd pronounce it Ty-tus, so no similarities with titt. If you're worried about teasing avoid Willy/Will/William becasue that is much more teaseworthy imo.

I don't like Caspar - in German a Kasper is a very well known (punch & judy) clown. A Kasper is a bit like a 'silly billy'. Not good to be called this imo.

Titus is great and I would be pushing for it if we didn't live in Norfolk and it would sound awful in a Norfolk accent (as would many names).

Incidentally, my friend has a son named Tito and someone mentioned that he might be called 'Tit' at school. Her response was, 'If the worst that happens at school is that he'll get called 'Tit', I can live with that' (or words to that effect). He does't get called 'Tit' by the way.

I also love Casper/Caspar.

So I'm no good at helping you decide I'm afraid.

But its not the mum that has to live with it is it its the child. Dont understand a parent having a "I can take it" attitude about names that open a child up to mickey taking and worse - its not you that really has to live with the consequences its the child.

i think some posters are being really rude on here about your son's potential name, theyr both lovely and titus is actually a book of the bible not just a footballer and as for bullying-its not allowed in school

If that's a response to my comment, this mum had to deal with plenty of name calling when she was at school - so I know she didn't take this lightly.

I don't mean to be rude, just speaking from experience. In a production of Andronicus, this is what the actors ended up calling the main role. In a jokey way of course, but given that actors like to play, and so do children, it is ripe for it. Don't want any child to end up with that for a nickname.

I have a relative named Titus - who as far as I know has never been bullied for it. He used to be called Tito by his friends and Dad and more embarrassingly Tightey by his mother - but he seems to go through life fairly successfully and unscathed!

It's not bullying that's necessarily the problem, it's the relentless teasing, and if the child doesn't have a steely character, it will take its toll. Plus, if you truly think bullying doesn't occur in schools, you're very naive!

Titus (tight arse for me as well) might be a great name, but it's only a potential name for now, so surely people can voice their opinions before anything's set in stone.

Casper really is the better option out of these two. :)

Titus is a perfectly lovely name but I would hate to be called it.

William does have teasing potential but probably only at Primary School. Titus is in a whole different league it's very unusual (I have an unusual name and that can make thing more tricky as it draws more attention to a name) and has teasing potential through his whole school career and may be beyond.

Casper's lovely (although it's normally spelt Caspar so he would spend his life correcting people) and unless you live in Germany there are no negative connotations (the ghost thing is trivial really).

I love Felix but was vetoed by DH - good luck with ds1

Titus sounds very pretentious to me. Casper is fine (although a bit ghosty).
