"Casper is a variant spelling of Caspar, a name of Persian origin which traditionally belonged to one of the three Magi (the Three Wise Men of the Christian nativity story)."

If he's due soon, would be a very fitting name!

'God, how much are we meant to wrap our precious children in cotton wool, trying to anticipate every last thing they might be bullied about in school?

Someone is either the type of kid to get bullied or they aren't. Bullies look for the vulnerable and then choose whatever weakness they can find and settle on that. There was a girl bullied in my school for having split ends, FFS!'

I totally agree with you, londonlottie - an unpopular opinion, I know.

But as a parent don't you try to minimise the chance of teasing? Particularly with something such as a name - they will have to have it for their whole life.

I had teasing about my name (along with lots of other things) - may be I was one of those vulnerable ds - but when it came to naming my dc I took my experiences into consideration. My dc haven't got names from the top ten or even the top 100 but obvious rude nns don't spring to mind when you say them. This is all that people are trying to point out on this thread.

I don't consider this wrapping in cotton wool, it's trying to make life easier for a dc. What parent wouldn't want to do that?

'What parent wouldn't want to do that?' - not sure about that last sentence Hmm, however, yes - you have a point, but there are things you just can't account for. For instance (and I hope it never happens to your DCs) you could have spent all your time picking a name that doesn't have 'rude' connotations, but you can't know that they won't be picked on because of their name or because of something else.

I think it probably does come down to the individual and how confident they are. But I still don't think it's the name that causes it.

Why?

Duffstuff · 13/11/2010 08:14

I love love love both the names Casper and Felix - they are my favourite boys names but I prefer the spelling Kasper. Good choices Grin

lilly13 · 13/11/2010 09:17

Not keen on either, but if I were to choose one I would go for Casper

I'd go for Caspar at a push, but it's a bit poncey for me.

Titus is beyond awful. You'll condemn him to a life of perpetual virginity with a name like that.

Tidey · 13/11/2010 13:04

Not keen on either, but prefer Casper out of the two. Good luck and best wishes.

dinosaurkisses · 14/11/2010 02:22

Love Titus.

Don't understand anyone who says that it opens up potential bullying avenues. Even if you had the most normal name in the world, walk into school wearing navy tights instead of black, have an oddly shaped art file (I'm still bitter about this) or be the only one to forget your hockey skirt and have to do PE in your maroon gym knickers, and kids don't need an unusual name to take the piss, they'll just make one up.

Unless of course said name is something completely off the wall (Treyc's mum, I'm looking at you.....)

Rhubarbgarden · 14/11/2010 07:45

I like both names. And I agree it's not worth worrying about potential teasing for all the reasons given.

muminthemiddle · 14/11/2010 21:52

I prefer Casper.

Prematureexcelsisation · 14/11/2010 21:56

Haven't you read gormenghast?

MerryMarigold · 14/11/2010 22:08

Casper. I thought your thread title said 'Tits or Casper' Blush!

mopsyflopsy · 16/11/2010 22:22

I love Titus. Cool and masculine imo. Don't you say Ty-tus (rather than Tee-tus) in English? In which case I can't see any similarity with tits Hmm.

Willy/William is much more likely to get teased due to the obvious link, but as others have said, kids will tease regardless of a name anyway.

gillyboot · 16/11/2010 23:20

Titus sounds like tight ass, so I would worry about bullying.

HalfCaff · 16/11/2010 23:24

As long as your surname isn't Annats-Chuff you might be alright with Titus...
