What do you guys think, for our daughter?

Per-seph-o-nie

It's from Greek mythology & is commonly spelt Persephone - but a lot of people tend to pronounce it wrong if they've never heard it before.

I like it, but only if you spell it correctly.

ShowOfHandsInEpistolaryForm · 05/11/2010 18:40

Spell it correctly.

I don't know anybody who can't pronounce it. And it will make you look like you can't spell.

And the people regularly in her life will only need to be told once.

Persephone is a lovely name.

gardenshrub · 05/11/2010 18:40

I know a little girl with this name, i think its really pretty.

MaeMobley · 05/11/2010 18:42

I think Lynda Snell in the Archers has a goat called Persephone.

tummytickler · 05/11/2010 18:43

Lovely, but for Gods sake spell it correctly or you will look like a poorly educated fool.

SuePurblybilt · 05/11/2010 18:45

Lovely, always been one I fancied. Spell it properly tho, please.

onimolap · 05/11/2010 18:49

I like only the original spelling.

Great name - sadly DH didn't agree.

washngo · 05/11/2010 18:51

Taught a lovely Persephone whose nickname was persie. Definitely spell it the right way - if anyone gets the pronunciation wrong you can just correct them (I'm sure they won't get it wrong much anyway). That way you get to be the one in the right which is far more satisfying than always being told you've spelt it wrong!

TheNextMrsDepp · 05/11/2010 18:52

Definitely lose the "i"!!

Not a bad name, though.

MrsVincentPrice · 05/11/2010 19:00

Ok, but spell it properly or you're heading for Jorja territory.

asouthwoldmummy · 05/11/2010 19:08

Lovely name but can you cope with telling everyone how to pronounce it?! It's bad enough having a surname most people can't seem to pronounce correctly.

My DSis recently called her 4wo Hermione, and is already fed up of my mum pronouncing it Her-mar-ne!

FellatioNelson · 05/11/2010 19:10

I like it, but please please ditch the 'i'.

Guacamole · 05/11/2010 19:13

I was going to say... 'do you know you're spelling it wrong?' but people have beaten me to it... Lose the i and then actually I quite like it!

WowOoo · 05/11/2010 19:14

Think it's beautiful and nickname Sephie lovely too. Agree with others about spelling.

Ishtar2410 · 05/11/2010 19:22

Really nice name. Agreed, though, use the original spelling.

smilingserenely · 05/11/2010 20:47

love it and nn percy but was put of by it's meaning which i think is bringer of death .

persephone , i think , was the greek goddess of spring daughter of zeus who was carried to the underworld by hades and after eating 6 pomegrante seeds was destined to spend 6 months there thus bringing winter .

suwoo · 05/11/2010 20:52

What smilingserenely said.

There is no way DH would have allowed it, his ponceometer would have exploded.

smilingserenely · 05/11/2010 20:57

suwoo my dh also has a very active ponceometer and nearly killed himself laughing when i mentioned it.

but percy as a nn is very cute

Rocketbird · 05/11/2010 20:59

Spelling it incorrectly doesn't help dimwits, it just makes you look like one of them.

Lovely name though.

poppydaisy · 05/11/2010 21:17

Love it, but you have to spell it correctly. Beautiful name though!

Spelt correctly I really like it. DH liked it too but was put off by its meaning.

Spelt with an "i" I hate it.

dexifehatz · 05/11/2010 21:28

I don't like the name especially the correct spelling but I love the nickname Sephie!

NoahAndTheWhale · 05/11/2010 21:33

I like the name. But as others say, please spell it correctly :)
