DC3 is due in Feb. We have 2 DSs and no idea what sex number three is. As the time gets closer I'll prob be on here a lot as quite stuck with boys names, but that's another thread!

I've always loved the name Louisa, but don't really like the nickname Lou (which I'm sure is an unavoidable nickname).

Any inspired nn ideas for Louisa would be great!

My best friend's sister is Louisa and has always been lulu or looby.

MollygoreR · 31/10/2010 10:53

my friend's dd Louisa is called Wee-wee by her 3-yeear-old brother [helpful]

Astrophe · 31/10/2010 10:54

I have a Lucia who goes by Luie, Lulu, or Lucia.

pintyblud · 31/10/2010 11:03

I love the name Louisa and if I had a dd Louisa, I'd always call her Louisa. I wouldn't bother with a nickname.

My name is Louisa.

I'm known as Lulu, Lou (which I really don't like - specially when called it by people who don't know me that well) have been known as Lucy, Lucia, Loochy Poochy (!?)and Weasel (exclusively my Dad). Most children tend to call me Weeza before they can pronounce it properly.

But I grew up spending a lot of time with my Grandma who was rubbish at remembering names, so I got used to answering to anything (including 'Norman'!!).

If you don´t like Lou, then don´t use it.

Call your daughter Louisa & stick to it.

Ours never had nns until schoolfriends used them.

We still don´t.

In Belgium Siska is a very popular nickname for Louisa. I knew a very old lady called Whisky/Whisker short for Louisa!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 31/10/2010 12:27

diddl - As an adult I get called 'Lou'. I don't like it. My Mum calls me it and one of my aunts. I've asked them not to, but they continue to do it, they say I'm being precious. I never introduced myself as 'Lou' always 'Louisa' but still people insist on being over-familiar.

I guess I could correct everyone who does it, or refuse to answer to anything other than my full name, but how grouchy would that make me sound?

Also, I spent my whole school life being called 'Louise' by teachers. That's pretty annoying - but that was the 80s and perhaps there are more Louisas about now, so the same thing may not happen these days.

It is a great name though - and despite never being able to get anthing in gift shops with my name on it as a child, I've never wanted to be called anything else. I like the fact that there aren't so many of us about.

I don't think you can control the nns really. Louises and Louisas always get called Lou by someone, always. Just stick with Louisa at home.

KittyFoyle · 31/10/2010 13:37

I know Weezer.

Faaamily · 31/10/2010 14:03

I know two Louisas. One is almost always Louisa, but her parents sometimes call her Lolly or LuLu. The other is 'Elle' and nobody but her parents calls her Louisa.

takingchances · 31/10/2010 14:15

My SIL is a Louisa and we all call her Wizzy {smile]

Celia76 · 31/10/2010 16:46

Thanks!

As others have said nn are out of our control to a certian extent. School friends will shorten DCs names even if we don't like them.

My cousin is Kirsten and at school was called Kirs (pronounced curse!).....

Louisa is such a pretty name it's definitely in my top 3!

Lulu and Lou, but most frequently Weeza.

letsblowthistacostand · 31/10/2010 18:59

My DD is Louisa and never gets called anything but Louisa, although her sister calls her Weeza.

Poppy1969 · 31/10/2010 21:46

I've seen Lula as a short form of Louisa in a few books....I really like that!

randomimposter · 31/10/2010 21:56

I love Luisa and would probably use Lulu.

candyflossbaby · 31/10/2010 22:02

Loula
Lula
Lulu

mathanxiety · 01/11/2010 00:29

I know a Zooza (phonetic spelling) whose real name is Louisa.

geekygiraffe · 01/11/2010 09:16

You could go for Lola (although Louisa is lovely so would try to just stick to that).

cumbria81 · 01/11/2010 09:16

All her mates will call her Lou whether you like it or not!

SkyeplusArlo · 01/11/2010 12:59

I always wanted the nn lula, but I ALWAYS get called lou. I hate it.

serenity · 01/11/2010 13:09

My sister is Louiza. As a child she was called Lulu, Weezer or Haystack Head. As an adult it's generally Lou or Louiza, although a few (close) people call her Louey (Louie? Louis?)

expectingno3 · 01/11/2010 14:03

Isn't the thing about nick names that they are given as time goes by, by siblings/ school friends/work mates etc? (I was surprised to hear my dd's friends calling her by a certain nn I never call her by myself - I find it quite cute!) and no matter if you dislike Lou, she will grow into that name and I'm sure you'll grow to love it. Sorry, just re-read your post and I've not really helped have I?

DandyDan · 01/11/2010 14:14

Isn't Lou Carpenter's daughter on Neighbours a Louisa or Louise? She is called Lolly, as a nickname.
