Hi all, I posted t'other day asking for opinions on girl's names including Jasmine. There was a suggestion that Jasmine is slightly chavvy? What does everyone think?

I hadn't actually considered this as it seems such a beautiful name to me but maybe I don't know the latest word on the street :) Ta!

No idea, but my 3 year old Jasmine isn't 'chav'.

SlaughteredSheep · 27/10/2010 20:49

There's a beautiful little girl at DD's preschool called Jazmin (I prefer the Jasmine spelling) who really suits it. If you like it then go for it otherwise you might regret it!

brittan76 · 27/10/2010 20:50

I like it.

JustDoMyLippyThenWeWillGo · 27/10/2010 20:52

I love it, as long as spelled Jasmine, like the flower. Definitely not chavvy.

KenDoddsDadsZombieDogsNotDead · 27/10/2010 20:52

I don't think it's chav. It's a pretty name.

Rindercella · 27/10/2010 20:52

Jasmine is a beautiful name Smile

LynetteScavo · 27/10/2010 20:53

DS1 would have been Jasmine if he's been a girl. And of course I am not a chav!

But I have noticed Jasmine is popular with parents from all walks of life.

pranma · 27/10/2010 22:02

It is my Siamese cat's name!

hester · 27/10/2010 22:05

It's popular, but also very pretty. I think it will become too much of a classic for terms like 'chavvy' to apply.

thatsnotmyZOMBIE · 27/10/2010 22:11

Dislike the name as I do not like the nick names- Jaz/ Mina.

Would not be so de'classe to say it was "chav"

BuntyPenfold · 27/10/2010 22:14

Love it, gorgeous name.

mutable · 27/10/2010 22:17

Jasmine is gorgeous, and not at all chavvy.

valiumskeleton · 27/10/2010 22:38

I think it's beautiful. Is it the name of a contraceptive pill though?

NonnoMum · 27/10/2010 22:40

A variation: Yasmin?

valiumskeleton · 27/10/2010 22:40

Ignore my last comment, that is yasmin. I like that too. It is Yasmin I'd avoid though.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 27/10/2010 22:40

The pill is Yasmin.

I like Jasmine and Yasmin.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 27/10/2010 22:41

Valium, maybe I'd avoid Cerazette or Levonelle, but I think Yasmin is very pretty.

LoopyLoupGarou · 27/10/2010 22:41

I love it, it's on my list.

Was considered chavvy a few years ago, less so now.

Who cares?

valiumskeleton · 27/10/2010 22:56

Yasmin is pretty yes. So is Cileste.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 27/10/2010 23:05

Dianette might be a bit chavvy, though.

valiumskeleton · 27/10/2010 23:07

Oh yes, Dianette. I feel like some freaky PILL expert. Most people don't know this stuff. I'm a bit odd.

withorwithoutyou · 27/10/2010 23:08

I like Jasmine, don't think of it as chav Smile

RoobyMurray · 27/10/2010 23:09

I like Jasmine. No bad connotations for me.

That was me that said it was chav! I'm sorry, I feel bad now, and having done some Jung history recalling, I have realised its because there was a right toerag at school call Jasmine who had a friend called Jade and they were quite, well, you know...
Anyway, I do apologise and having said it to myself under my breath a few times, I really do like it. Congratulations!
