What are your thoughts on Willow for a girl?

chickentwizzler · 18/10/2010 14:35

I like it.

thighsmadeofcheddar · 18/10/2010 14:35

yes yes I like it

MardyBra · 18/10/2010 14:36

I like it but if you child turns out to be chunky rather than willowy, it might be a little harsh.

TheGoddessBlossom · 18/10/2010 14:37

my niece is called Willow and I love it. Her sister is Lily though, be careful of too many "Ls" - they are often called Lilo and Willy.....

lowra · 18/10/2010 14:42

Gosh Mardy my dp is quite chunky (broad, big boned with high muscle density rather than actually fat ifyswim) so if she takes after him then Willow could turn out to be a misnomer.

I love it but tend to prefer other more traditional names so worry that it will become a faddy name.

Two in our playgroup to my surprise.
I have a Rowan, would Willow go with that?
I need another baby.

lowra · 18/10/2010 15:20

I think Willow would belovely with Rowan.

Would always think of Willow from Buffy The Vampire Slayer, which is fine except I would consider it a showbiz name.

cumbria81 · 18/10/2010 15:37

Ridiculous. Don't do it.

Acanthus · 18/10/2010 15:38

Hippy

Giddyup · 18/10/2010 15:44

Gorgeous, I know an enchanting little Willow

BrainMash · 18/10/2010 15:57

I really like it - although it does make me think of kittens (friends kitten called Willow).

Greenwing · 18/10/2010 16:58

Sounds very hippy/fantasy film to me.

One of my DS's favourite films was 'Willow' where Willow is the name of the main character. As he is a man and also a person of restricted growth I don't really imagine it as a pretty girls name!
Guess that film is not well known - though still available on Amazon. (Have just ordered it on Amazon for son's 19th birthday nostalgia present!)

summery · 18/10/2010 17:03

Love it, my favourite girls name by far

mnistooaddictive · 18/10/2010 17:07

Hate it.

Chillibud · 18/10/2010 19:24

Love it.

LetThereBeRock · 18/10/2010 19:30

Love it.

Willow is a really well-known film (at least in our house!)

But the name is mostly known from Willow from Buffy the VS.

RockBat · 18/10/2010 23:38

Wet blanket name.

KnitterNotTwitter · 18/10/2010 23:40

Not sure I'm afraid. We had a cat called Willow and there is also a brand of butter called Willow...

On balance it's a no from me.

LaTristesse · 19/10/2010 06:56

Very sweet, there's a lovely one in our playgroup atm...

TheMittzressOfMystery · 19/10/2010 07:06

I would have loved Willow for my DD but surname is C so it wouldn't have worked Sad.

ProfYaffle · 19/10/2010 07:21

My dd1 is Willow, it's a lovely name and gets a very positive response in rl.

MrsVincentPrice · 19/10/2010 07:36

Nice, if a bit hippy.
If you know BTVS you'll think of Willow from that (which is good) but if you haven't seen it then it doesn't scream Buffy fan - it's not like naming a child Yoda IYSWIM.
