Am having a baby boy (first child) and know very little about names and popularity or how common they are.

Which is less common out of Charlie and Louis? Louis we would pronounce the French way.

SecretNutellaFix · 09/10/2010 19:43

5inthebed · 09/10/2010 19:43

Louis

frakkinnakkered · 09/10/2010 19:44

Common as in usual? Louis

VerityBrulee · 09/10/2010 19:45

Louis is less common and much nicer IMO

brittan76 · 09/10/2010 19:45

Louis - but only use it if you can withstand the invariable loo jokes

Fayrazzled · 09/10/2010 19:54

Louis definitely. Charlies are ten a penny round here. Three in my son's class.

beccagrace2 · 09/10/2010 20:05

both a bit boring sorry

not met a baby frank yet if you want unusual, or wilf congrats on baby boy tho, baby boys are soooo scrummy.

goplayout · 09/10/2010 20:14

Defo Louis - only one in my son's class and 1 other in the entire school. Smile

onimolap · 09/10/2010 20:16

bg2: I've come across two primary age Franks recently, and one Wilf.

pranma · 09/10/2010 20:23

My dgs [6] is Frank
How about Charles Louis then you can see which suits him as he grows :)

lifeinagoldfishbowl · 09/10/2010 20:24

I know several charlies but no louis

mathanxiety · 09/10/2010 22:24

Louis the more unusual by a long shot.

1Catherine1 · 09/10/2010 23:20

I teach 1 Louis and no Charlie. Although quite often where I live Charlie is used as a girls name as an abbreviation of Charlotte.

NiceCuppaT · 09/10/2010 23:47

Louis...I know lots of small Charlies

freerangeeggs · 10/10/2010 00:01

I'm a secondary teacher and I've got/had several children with both names.

I think overall Charlie is more popular. Both lovely names.

I also have a Frank and it's quite fantastic on him!

Firawla · 10/10/2010 00:35

louis less common but i wouldnt say uncommmon, ive seen a few babies with that name lately. it is coming up in popularity

have seen frank/frankies too wouldnt say that is rare either

ducknipples · 10/10/2010 00:48

another vote for louis, i know a lot of little charlies, boys AND girls...

Clary · 10/10/2010 01:08

Louis less popular.

Charlie fairly popular and also yes, a girls' name too arguably.

MuffinMouse · 10/10/2010 05:19

Charlie is definitely a girls name now where I live. Louis isn't that popular for babies, but there are more at primary age...

brittan76 · 10/10/2010 19:52

Thanks. I forgot that Charlie is often used for a girl these days. I always think it sounds a bit common on girls.

CharlieBoo · 10/10/2010 20:22

Both popular here, and yes Charlie on a girl is ooh soo chavvy!!

NotanOtter · 10/10/2010 20:24

Louis ( french way) much nicer

MrsWeasley · 10/10/2010 20:24
