Struggling with girls names. We both think we like this one - its not too common but not too wierd. BUT will everyone (over 30) go "Heidi-hi" - ha hah ha or start yode youdel yodell...oh however you spell it - yodelling?

or is it just cute?

I think the hi-de-hi response is quite likely, sorry.

Tillyscoutsmum · 29/09/2010 11:34

I love it.

We considered it for DD but it was around the same time as Kerry Katona had her Heidi so it put me off. Tbh, even though KK is constantly in the trashy mags, her dc's names don't actually get mentioned that often so it wouldn't put me off now iyswim.

kizzibear · 29/09/2010 11:34

Its ok, not my fave, but still an alright name.

avsbavs · 29/09/2010 11:35

personally i like it.
i am still in school and it is a lovely unusual name. i think the 'Heidi - hi' will die out as no one in my generation would say that

my name is Avalon and everyone always comments on how unusual it is. my sister gets very fustrated (she's called Georgina)

if i were you go for unusual!!!

hope this helps!

Never choose a baby name becasue it's "cute". The person you're naming will only be a bay for a couple of years - they will have 80 years of being a teenager and an adult. Pick a name to suit the adult she will be, not the baby she is.

Teenagers and adult women don't want to be cute - they want to be taken seriously.

Doesn't Heidi work as a name for a grown-up then?

Only use it if you plan to dress her like this.

Tillyscoutsmum · 29/09/2010 11:49

I know 2 adult Heidi's and I think it works fine ??

5DollarShake · 29/09/2010 13:27

I like the name and think it works fine for an adult.

She would only get hi-de-hi from adults; not from people her own age. Just the way some adults seemed to think they were being awfully original and funny trotting out the "is a bell necessary on a bike?" line to me when I was young. No-one says it to me any more.

Rockbird · 29/09/2010 13:30

I had a friend all the way through school called Heidi, who is now an adult friend IYSWIM. We are in our late 30s and no one ever said hi-de-hi to her. It's a lovely name and actually more mainstream than it would have been in the 70s when we were at school when it was still a very Germanic name. Not that that's a problem...oh you know what I mean!

ChooksAway · 29/09/2010 15:10

I know a Heidi - she used to get the Hi-di-hi comments years ago, but people now don't know it, so she hasn't had it for years.
It works fine as an adult name, as it's not cutesy at all.

MamaLazarou · 29/09/2010 15:12

I know a baby Heidi. She just gets called Heidi, not 'hi-de-hi' or anything silly like that. I think it's a lovely name.

LastOrdersAgain · 29/09/2010 15:15

Love it.

On my list if I ever had another (unlikely)

GladioliBuckets · 29/09/2010 16:49

Love it. Think Heidi Klum for inspiration, v clever lady apparently (for a supermodel anywayGrin).

pinkthechaffinch · 30/09/2010 11:08

Isn't Heidi short for Adelheid?

Dineo · 08/10/2010 13:25

I think it's gorgeous. Go for it!

rachel234 · 08/10/2010 13:25

Really do not like it. Very uncool in Germany (not sure if that matters to you..).

Jojay · 08/10/2010 13:27

Lovely name, and it works for adults too. I know 3 at our school so it's getting more popular I think

tammytoby · 08/10/2010 13:28

Would you pronounce it the German way - High-dee?

Not that keen personally.

LetThereBeRock · 08/10/2010 15:42

Love it.

flopsy1974 · 08/10/2010 15:44

I think it's lovley.

Rhubarbgarden · 09/10/2010 18:55

I rather like it, though I feel like I shouldn't.

TooImmature2BMum · 09/10/2010 18:58

Think it sounds like a lonely goatherd. Also, have you actually read Heidi? She's as sickening as Pollyanna.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 09/10/2010 18:58

I love it, its right up there on my 'if we ever have a girl' list.
