I like this name for a boy. Would appreciate your opinions :)

I like this name Smile. Dd has a lovely boy called Shaye in her class.

Imbecileningles · 24/09/2010 09:54

What does it mean?

SweetBeadieRussell · 24/09/2010 10:02

is it an irish name thats been anglicised? cos i'm not really a fan of those

MummikinsOopNorth · 24/09/2010 10:06

It's Hebrew and means Present or Gift. The usual spelling is Shai, but still pronounced as 'Shay'

I think of the Shay stadium.

belgo · 24/09/2010 10:09

Can be short for Seamus

BuntyPenfold · 24/09/2010 10:18

I know a Shay, he is a popular and talented boy.

PaulineCampbellJones · 24/09/2010 11:22

Like it as short for Seamus. And Shay Given is very handsome!

Eglu · 24/09/2010 11:24

I don't like the name tbh. But what is with the 'e' on the end of it? Better without.

SirBoobAlot · 24/09/2010 11:41

I don't like it. Seamus is nice though.

persephoneplum · 24/09/2010 11:48

Absolutely awful.

Tortington · 24/09/2010 11:50

nope

seeker · 24/09/2010 11:51

Shay is short for Seamus, and is OK in that context. Shaye on its own is horrid.

ValiumSingleton · 24/09/2010 12:20

I prefer Seamus. I would let the nn Shay 'evolve' even if it's what you planned. Just shay seems a bit..... incomplete. Shane is a very normal name in Ireland for men my age.

muggglewump · 24/09/2010 12:22

Terrible.
Seamus is much better.

5DollarShake · 24/09/2010 12:36

Not to my taste. Seems a bit of a non-name, especially with the 'e' on the end.

Rockbird · 24/09/2010 12:40

Like it a lot. Lose the 'e' though.

ladymeg · 24/09/2010 13:25

non

mathanxiety · 24/09/2010 19:08

I thought it was a girl's name with the E on the end. Shay short for Seamus is what everyone would think; the Hebrew reference would be lost. I like Shay though.

Odelay · 24/09/2010 19:14

like Che? as in Guevara? but all wrong?

DaisyDaresYOU · 24/09/2010 19:23

No.i really dnt like it.its too close to Shane(which is bad enough).

usualsuspect · 24/09/2010 19:24

I like it

Minione · 24/09/2010 19:41

I like it without an e and as a nickname for Seamus. However, I have taught a girl called it - think its nicer for a boy!

TooBlessedToBeStressed · 24/09/2010 19:46

if you like it ,go for it

wigglesrock · 24/09/2010 19:49

I like it but prefer Shea as spelling.
