Names you KNOW are perfectly nice but which you have an irrational hatred for

I'll go first-

Anne/Anna
Nancy

I don't know why I feel such a strong dislike for them! Perfectly nice normal names logically but for me.......no. To say the least.

Apologies to any parents of Annas or Nancys, I know I am the freakish one for feeling this way!

Figured everyone would have at least one name like this?

AnnieBeansMum, I love the name Anya! My DD has a little friend called Anya and she's the nicest little girl!

Ripeberry · 08/09/2010 18:16

For some reason Poppy annoys me for a child and especially for an adult! So twee.

My name has appeared a few times. I don't think that it's particularly nice either but as for my DD's beautiful name...well some of you clearly have no taste! Wink

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 08/09/2010 18:24

Also, anything appended with May/Mae/Mei or Lee/Leigh - as in, Amber-Mae or Gracie-Lee. It's irrational because suffixes of Lou, Jo and Ann/Anne don't bother me... Katie-Lou, Casie-Jo and Carrie-Ann seem OK (well, if you like that sort of thing)

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 08/09/2010 18:26

Have just read back over this thread properly and found on it almost every middle name DH vetoed for DD... he will be smug!

laughalot · 08/09/2010 18:40

poo to you lauren haters Grinthat is my lovely dd name. I am very suprised my ds name hasnt been mentioned yet as there is usually some debate about it .... aidan.

I dont really have any names that I dislike however i kid you not there is a baby whos mum comes to school and his name is smirnoff why would you ?

wisteria12 · 08/09/2010 18:52

CuppaTeaJanice - James? That is irrational. Though, having said that, I can't abide Jamie.

Here's a weird one; I too dislike Hayden/Jayden/Cayden and their many variants, apart from Hayden spelt Haydn. I have no idea why, I detest all the others, but for some reason removing a vowel makes all the difference.

Oh, and I see my least favourite and possibly most unattractive girl's name ever (second to Imogen) has finally put in an appearance. Paige. Paige. Who came up with that? Paige boys; yes, fine, appropriate at weddings, Paige girls; no, no absolutely not, appropriate being shredded into a bin and burnt. What makes it worse is the chavtastic twang it's pronounced with around here. Paaaaaaiiijjj. PAAAAAIIIIIJJJJ.

P.S - Sorry if you are in possession of a Paige.

CharlieBoo · 08/09/2010 19:23

Chelsea.....oh dear god why would anyone put that on their poor dd!!

prozacfairy · 08/09/2010 20:39

Gemma
Caitlyn- mostly because MIL kept suggesting it while I was pregnant even though We had vetoed it 200 other times she brought it up Hmm
Seren
Heather

Thomas
Louis
Oliver
Connor

prozacfairy · 08/09/2010 20:42

Oh and Susan. I hate the name Susan. Can't believe I forgot it. Probably because in my head my dislike is rational Grin

prozacfairy · 08/09/2010 20:53

Arthur. Hate it especially how its pronounced round 'ere in mockney central arrrrfarrr! arf a what? is always my response... can't help it.

Kaydence- sounds so twee

All the double barrell names ending in Mae/May/Mai

anything ending in Ayden- you all know what ones Grin

Jordan

Constance
Esme
Clementine
Archie especially when double barrelled with Lee, it sounds so try-hard

Lacey/Kacie/Macie etc

I'm sure I can think of a few more! DD's name appeared a few times [shrug]

Becky99 · 08/09/2010 21:06

Heard a woman call out to son yesterday "Athios!"
What the f***!

KittyBigglesworth · 08/09/2010 21:18

Cassandra and Persephone - ponce names and not so irrational as they have unforutnate meanings too.

knobbingnowt · 08/09/2010 21:20

Tracey.

I hate it. Bleugh.

LiquoriceLila · 08/09/2010 21:33

William George and Matthew, Bethany, Elizabeth, Grace and Hannah. No idea why, all perfectly normal names I just really dislike them.

sparkleshine · 08/09/2010 22:26

Can't believe I've read all 7 pages. Mine and DP names aren't on here but my gorgeous baby boys name is 4 times.
So....

John --- really detest this name. It's like a word picked out coz you have nothing else. So boooring.
Peter
Paul
Anne --- reason as above ( and my mums name)
Joanne --- my ex best friend
Susan
claire/Clare
Enid, edith, ethel, margaret,Mary, martha, mavis --basically any old fashioned name.

Male names that are changed to make into ugly female names such as michael/michelle, phillip/ phillippa, Bernard/bernadette, Paul/Pauline, Edward/ edwina etc. Ewwwww

But I do like both Daniel and Danielle.

FunnysInTheGarden · 08/09/2010 22:30

Fancy not liking Abigail, tis a lovely name

nannylocal · 08/09/2010 22:43

Guy
Sonny
Craig
Lottie (though I don't mind Charlotte)
Sofia (if pronounced sa-fire)
Cecily
Mandy

I recently met someone whose daughter was called Esmerald Eliza - I thought that was a bit much!

CakeandRoses · 08/09/2010 22:45

Evie makes me shudder. I have to literally stop myself recoiling at the mention of it. No reason for this at all.

Lots of other names I dislike but all for 'good' reasons.

mollymawk · 08/09/2010 23:00

Well, my name has appeared, as has DH's, DS2's and DD's, but DS1 seems to have escaped so far (despite some people posting what are unfairly long lists in my view - I mean, how much irrationality can there be in one head?).

I don't like any girls' name that has an "o" in it.

Boys' names with "o" are okay though.

KatnKankles · 08/09/2010 23:59

My name, my 4 children's names, and my DH's name have been mentioned Shock Wink

I irrationally hate the name Matthew.. very inoffensive but just can't understand why anyone would use it.

Also
Courtney
Ellie
Demi
anything hyphenated.

I used to have an irrational hatred of the name Elizabeth. I absolutely love it now.. it was like an epiphany, I just didn't get why anyone would use it and one day I was looking at names for one of my dds and it clicked! Sadly DH didn't agree and therefore I have a lovely hamster named Elizabeth.

delphinedownunder · 09/09/2010 04:35

Euan/ Ewan - snot nosed kid. Don't know why, I have never met an adult or a child Ewan/ Euan.

Benjamin - love Ben but not Benjamin. A bit of a mouthful, perhaps a little Mummy's boyish.

Luca and Mica - a bit pretentious.

Tyler for a girl or boy.

Isabella - again a mouthful and flouncy. Love Isabel and Isobel though. You see, no rhyme or reason!

NadiaWadia · 09/09/2010 04:55

Gaynor. Lorraine
Clive. Nigel

Spannaboo · 09/09/2010 08:04

Have just read on this thread that I'm unimaginative and dull for naming my daughter Eve. Have also noticed all family member names on here too including mine.

Don't really hate any names except - Marnie! Actually quite a nice name but was the evil little cow who made my life hell all through junior school.
