I know I have posted on Enid already today, but dh has said that this is now top of his list.
I think I rather like it.
What are opinions on Bridget?

Love it, I quite like Enid too

serin · 04/09/2010 17:24

Love Bridget but then it is one of my names!

MummyLovesSadie · 04/09/2010 17:27

I think it's a bit of hard/harsh name imho & it always makes me think of Bridget the Midget from Grange Hill, but then that's me showing my age! Grin

deemented · 04/09/2010 17:29

I grew up with a girl called Bridget - lovely name - but all the lads in school called her Fridgid Bridget. Sorry.

skidoodly · 04/09/2010 17:39

Like it, good name. DD2's middle name.

ladyharriet · 04/09/2010 17:58

I really like it, and would much rather be called Bridget than Enid. Bridget's one of those rare names that could be any age, and which everyone knows without it being really popular. Enid is a bit more of a statement name, a bit too old lady for my liking.

It makes me think of Bridget Jones a bit, but then Enid makes me think of Enid Blyton, and anyway I'm sure if I knew someone of either name I wouldn't be thinking about their namesakes all the time.

mathanxiety · 04/09/2010 18:30

I love it, and wish I had used it, as it was on my list for one of the DDs.

I think Enid is a truly awful name.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 04/09/2010 18:31

Love it, was my Grandmothers name and my sisters middle name but her friends call ehr this.

Quenbioz · 04/09/2010 18:31

It sounds a bit harsh, sorry.

Rockbird · 04/09/2010 18:32

Love it :)

Greensleeves · 04/09/2010 18:39

prefer Bridie

deemented · 04/09/2010 18:42

Ohh... i love Bridie!

Greensleeves · 04/09/2010 18:43

my little cousin is called Bridie

I have always liked it, it is so pretty and unusual

FanjolinaJolie · 04/09/2010 18:43

I quite like it, are there other ways to spell it?

skidoodly · 04/09/2010 18:59

Brigid is another variation, but I prefer Bridget

Rockbird · 04/09/2010 20:39

My mother's best friend at school was Bridget but always called Bridgey, don't know how you spell it but I love that too. Makes me feel all warm and fluffy...

SirBoobAlot · 04/09/2010 20:54

Had a friend at school called Bridget. Its a nice name, but she was called Frigid Bridget... Puts me off...

atmywitssend · 04/09/2010 20:57

Jones

BuntyPenfold · 04/09/2010 23:24

Hate it, don't use it, it is awful - bloody Bardot, bloody frigid Bridget, bloody bridget the bloody midget, bloody Bridget Jones, can you tell it is my name?

alicatte · 04/09/2010 23:30

One of my sisters is called Bridget. It's the name of a Celtic Goddess. I like it myself.

tummytickler · 05/09/2010 11:16

Thanks. I must say the Bridget Jones thing puts me off a bit. I read the book and thought she was a bit of a twat. I suppose a lot of people will think of Bridget Jones, as for some reason, a lot of people seemed to like it!
Shame, Bride is a cute nn!

5DollarShake · 05/09/2010 18:23

People of our generation will think of Bridget Jones, but her friends would be unlikely to.

I like the name and think Bridie is a sweet nn. :)

LeviStubbsTears · 06/09/2010 10:08

She could more or less be Bridie the whole time (or at least through some of school) if the associations/ rhymes etc. would be too off-putting. And you liked it of course! She'd still have Bridget when she grew up. I know a Bridie, short for Bridget, and it's a lovely name (and a v. sweet girl).

Greensleeves · 06/09/2010 18:52

Bridie isn't actually a short form of Bridget (although it functions very well as one)

it's a name in its own right, it's Irish and quite old

mathanxiety · 06/09/2010 19:15

Biddy is may all-time favourite nn for Bridget. I wish I had had the nerve to overrule my mum and call one of the DDs Brigid or Bridget, with Biddy as a nn.
