I was in the car with DD and we were listening to Sarah Cox being introduced on Radio one. Conversation goes like this:

DD: What is her name?

me: Sarah

DD: That is a funny name.

me: Why? Don't you know any Sarah's?

DD: It's funny - I don't know anyone called that.

There were 4 Sarah's in my class at school, DD's school is full of Daisy's and Maisie's, Amelie's and Amelia's, Pheobe's and Georgie's.

Made me smile that for her "sarah" is really unique

How funny, I had a similar conversation with dd just recently. There were 6 in my class in the 70s.

I have a baby Sarah who will be 1 tomorrow - We get a lot of comments on how pretty a name it is as what was a very usual name is know quite unusual. Everyone always asked if she is Sarah-Jane though - I didn't realise the two names are meant to go together like that.

That is quite odd - we know a few little Sarah's. Doesn't seem to have gone out of fashion so much here.

this is a great example of how names go up and down in popularity. In the late 70s and early 80s Sarah was in the top 10 names (possibly no.1??) and there were 10 Sarahs in my year at school.
But I don't know any children called Sarah now.

I am a Sarah. Back in the 7Os there were about 4 in my year group and we were all either Sarah Louises or Sarah Jaynes. I really liked my name but often didn't 'hear' the prettiness of it because it was so common. Glad to hear it is now unusual

I like the name and find it is quite rare now. BUT it doesn't seem dated as much as Jane, Michelle, Tina etc, more classic like Elizabeth etc.

Sarah is one of those brilliant names which has been very popular, yet has acquired no negative connotations. I mean, some of my best friends are called Sarah...

It's a lovely classic name, and quite unusual at the moment.

My best friend is a Sarah. Think it's due a revival as it's a great name.

I love the name Sarah. Very pretty and it means princess (I think)!

I'm a Sarah (officially Sarah-Jane), one of 17 million in my class at school and there are three of us in my office. Don't know any little ones though. DH and I are both agreed that if it wasn't my name it'd be top of our list. I really like it but didn't always. Agree that it's hard to be objective about your own name.

And yes it means princess :)

One year there were 4 Sarahs in my class. It is a beautiful name though, and actually more popular than I'd thought. I just looked it up and it was 75 in the "name charts" last year - higher than Martha, Amelie and Florence, which are names I hear EVERYWHERE. I only know one baby Sarah though.

I know a couple of little girls called Sara (both Muslim), but the youngest Sarah I know is 18, and apart from her the rest are my age (and there are lots). I like the name.

It's a lovely classic name-my favourite.

The 70s batch of Sarah Janes must be Dr Who related surely? She was a great character, I can see why there might be a few Sarah Janes both then and when those fans grew up too.

I doubt it. My grandmother chose my name and I don't think Dr Who was high on her viewing list! She was more an Upstairs Downstairs kind of gal :)
