I was in the car with DD and we were listening to Sarah Cox being introduced on Radio one. Conversation goes like this:

DD: What is her name?

me: Sarah

DD: That is a funny name.

me: Why? Don't you know any Sarah's?

DD: It's funny - I don't know anyone called that.

There were 4 Sarah's in my class at school, DD's school is full of Daisy's and Maisie's, Amelie's and Amelia's, Pheobe's and Georgie's.

Made me smile that for her "sarah" is really unique Smile

My beautiful DGD is Sarah Louise. She's 7 years old, white hair and beautiful blue eyes.
Very small and petite.

DD's middle name is Louise, as is mine Both my grandmothers were called Louise.

When I was pregnant with DD in 1984, my brother (who is a secondary school teacher) said "Please don't call it Sarah if it is a girl, every second 15 year old girl in our school is called Sarah".

So Sarah must have been very popoular in the early seventies.

How funny! In my class everybody was either Sarah, Kate or Amanda.

I know a 13 year old Sarah I don't think Sarah or Jane is really dated - don't think Jane was ever in the top 10 and I think of Jane Eyre a couple of centuries ago for that one

though Elizabeth is the most used feamle name since 1837

Goingspare · 26/11/2010 09:28

I have a Sarah - only one in her school.

misdee · 26/11/2010 09:33

I am a Sarah Jane.

def not a dr who family.

Sarah Jane and Sarah Louise were very popular names in the 70's/80's. I was one of 2 Sarahs in a class of 30 in the 80's, and one of 5 in a year group of 150-ish at secondry.

I know of one 'child' Saah who must be coming up 3 now.

A Sarah Louise here!

Lovely name. I like Rachel too and it was on our list for dc2

I know a baby Sarah - I think it is having a revival. A bit like John for a boy - nice name but so common for a while people laid off it.

I also know a grown-up Sera, which is a pretty way of spelling it.

At school there was a Sara (ryhmes with Tara). That's nice too.

Three of them in DD4's class (9 year olds), one in DD1's a few years ago. One in DS's, so still a fair scattering...

DD2 middle name is Sarah (she's 3), named after paternal grandmother. Sometimes think I would have liked it as a first name.

I'm a sarah too - At school in the 60's and 70's there were quite a few, possibly due to Lady Sarah Armstrong Jones.. Did you know that a lot of 'under maids' were given the name sarah when they started work in the Upstairs Downstairs type houses? IIRC Pauline Collins was Sarah in the series.

NinkyNonker · 01/12/2010 21:00

I'm a Sarah. Despite it being very popular in my parents' day (I'm 29) I was never at school with one and has only met one or two.
