Hi all

Pregnancy hormones may be driving my peculiar name considerations for boys, so feedback is welcome!
If you don't like any of them... would it be possible to say why?

Beaumont
Phoenix
Denver
Corbin
Stirling

I like names with a bit of a 'nature' theme.

Are they just too poncetastic? I happen to love them (Corbin is DH's choice however) but I am aware that my hormones may have removed me from the reality of yelling it out in the supermarket/park!

Beaumont is poncetastic.

Phoenix is nice.

Denver - OK, but I feel the need to say Colerardo after it.

Corbin, Hmm...not keen, don't know why.

Stirling is cool, like Stirling Moss.

notthe3monkeys · 27/08/2010 10:08

Stirling my fav too, but it annoys me that it doesn't have an 'obvious' nickname. Not that that is a dealbreaker, however, I love the name and it sounds great with our surname.

I kind of like Stirling too but I'd always think of the town.
Same with Denver and Phoenix. And for some reason I just don't like Beaumont, Corbin is fab though!

minipie · 27/08/2010 10:15

Corbin I really like. (Like Corin too)

Stirling is ok, but doesn't really suit a small child IMO and no obvious nn.

The others I wouldn't go for - they are too obviously place names.

SirBoobAlot · 27/08/2010 10:47

Beaumont - Sounds very poncy. Also its a betting method and that would put me off...
Phoenix - is silly, to be blunt.
Denver - Colerado
Corbin - sounds like cabin.
Stirling - is town that always rains when I drive through it.

tummytickler · 27/08/2010 10:50

I only like Stirling.
Corbin is the name of a friends band when we were at college,
Denver - cannot see this as a name for a person at all.
Phoenix - ok, but I couldn't use it, and I am not sure I would want it as my name
Beaumont - just no!

notthe3monkeys · 27/08/2010 12:01

any more for any more?

morganlebuffay · 27/08/2010 12:04

If I had to pick one, it would be Denver. It seems like the most name-like and 'Den' is quite cool for a nickname. I have met a Denver and didn't think his name was weird or anything. Don't like any of the others, sorry.

topsi · 27/08/2010 12:12

Beaumont is a wood timber merchant down our way

DastardlyandSmugly · 27/08/2010 12:17

Stirling is my fave too although my uncle had this as a middle name (grandad loved Stirling Moss) and he had it omitted from his wedding ceremony as he hated it so much.

Beaumont - it reminds me of a cinema or something
Phoenix - prefer it for a girl
Denver - agree Colorado
Corbin - I know one of the LA LAW lawyers was called Corbin in real life but it's just too preppy American for me
Stirling - is town that always rains when I drive through it

horatia · 27/08/2010 13:22

I'm not keen on place names or surnames as first names. However from your list I like Denver best.

mathanxiety · 27/08/2010 15:38

Beaumont -- the Beaumont Society would be off-putting from the pov of names www.beaumontsociety.org.uk/
Phoenix -- nice, but maybe a bit Hollywood
Denver -- John Denver
Corbin -- LOVELY, old English (or possibly Anglo Norman) name for a crow, and has a lovely sound imo.
Stirling -- a bit like 'Lance'; overdoing the manliness

I love Corbin. (I think the word/name crops up in a Maddy Pryor song about a dead knight having his bones picked by crows in a field, but don't let that put you off Smile)

notthe3monkeys · 27/08/2010 15:55

Ok so I am not disappointed with the reactions so far! Some of it was kind of what I expected, I am vaguely aware that what seems great now is toe-curling when you're not pregnant.

DH will be pleased with the initial responses to Corbin too.

I think Phoenix is OUT.
Denver I was never that mad about anyway
Beaumont - I just kind of loved it but feared that the poor little mite might get a walloping

Corbin and Stirling are still in the running.

Actually I really like Everett but DH vetoed it the bugger.

OP posts:
SirBoobAlot · 27/08/2010 18:00

I actually like Everett quite a lot - go for that one!

mathanxiety · 27/08/2010 18:37

Me too, and I also like Emmett.

SirBoobAlot · 27/08/2010 19:34

I love Emmett.

livviloo · 27/08/2010 19:39

I like Everett best or Corbin or Stirling.
Thank goodness you are off Phoenix. My nephew has that name and it was meaningful, or something, to my SIL but people do give me weird looks all the time when I call out his name, in the park and places. If I talk about him to someone who doesn't know him their first comment is "he's called what?"
I just feel grateful I can always say," I didn't choose it, he's not mine!"
He is gorgeous though:)

notthe3monkeys · 27/08/2010 20:21

Yeah I think Phoenix was a mad moment Grin

Ok - I will take Everett, Stirling and Corbin back to DH for his opinion!

He says he doesn't like Everett because of Kenny Everett. Bah!

OP posts:
notthe3monkeys · 27/08/2010 21:03

nope, DH the bastard has totally vetoed Everett.

He says he's not going to think about names any more than that until we know the sex.

SO unhelpful Grin

OP posts:
LetThereBeRock · 27/08/2010 21:37

I love Stirling. Corbin is ok,but the others are awful.

allbie · 28/08/2010 20:25

I rather like Beaumont.

sweetnitanitro · 28/08/2010 20:38

Stirling is my favourite. Isn't Corbin the name of one of those High School Musical kids?

Eglu · 28/08/2010 20:53

notthe3monkeys Are you me? I've been discussing Stirling, for yet to be conceived DS3, with DH. An the main thing that annoys me is that it can't easily be shortened. I do love it though.

notthe3monkeys · 29/08/2010 09:41

I have no idea about High School Musical!
Wouldn't surprise me though!

Eglu. Yes, we are the same, just in a parallel universe Grin

I like Beaumont but I fear he will have a school life from hell unless he goes to Eton or something.

Stirling seems much more 'me' but I am worried about the whole starling bird/currency thing. We already get a fair bit of flack for DS1 and DS2 names so I am not worried too much though!

PaulineCampbellJones · 29/08/2010 13:06

Beaumont is the name of a very bad man in Jackie Brown, a Tarantino film. Ghetto fabulous.
Like Stirling though.
