How popular is Monty?

Have you come across many?

My DH really likes it (I'm still holding out for Patrick, despite some concerns), but I'm not sure it's really us. I think it might be a bit aspirational for us - he'll go to the local comprehensive, not a private school.

What do you think?

looblee would you go for it as a name in its own right, or short for Montgomery/Montague or something?

I've done lots of thinking about that too and think that Montgomery was the nicest choice but it was still a bit fuddy duddy for us so would probably go for Monty in its own right. Good luck making your decision.

I know what you mean - I think maybe I'm plumping for the just 'Monty' option, too. That's if DH doesn't say he likes something else next week!

We have a 9 month old Monty (Montgomery). He is a rascal and seems to suit his name.

We're certainly not "posh" but there seems to be less class distinction with this name here in Scotland.

Personally, we went for the full length version so he could choose between Monty, Montgomery, Mont, etc later in life.

This thread is 2 years old!!!

Uncle 'I mean to have you even if it must be burglary' Monty from Withnail and I would be my first association.

Monty Panasaer is ace though!

I have only come across one monty (he went to public school), i think it is a really nice name and don't think it necessarily is a posh name.

IT doesn't matter if the post is 2 years old - perhaps others are contemplating the name.

Montgomery is still in the running as a name for The Third. We have a Charles and a Wilfred and are still pretty torn between Rupert or Montgomery.

It was on our list last time but we had a girl. Discounted this time as someone said only if we could afford private education - we can't.

However, this thread has made me reconsider - due today so hopefully get to decide soon. It may be another girl....
