What are people's thoughts on Millie? What associations does the name have? What kind of boy's names would it go with?

It's OK as a nn (although not to my taste), I don't really like nicknames as given names though. Doesn't have any associations for me.

Not sure what you mean by which boys' names it would go with, I would have thought anything except Billy or Willy would be fine

I am the proud mum of a millie as you can tell. I still love the name, but I do worry about how it will sound when she is in her 30's.
The only thing I don't like is that my family shorten it to Mil - yuk !

I think Millie is quite sweet, but one of my cats is called Mille, and I have since met quite a few other cats with the same name so not only is it very popular, it's obviously a favourite with felines!

It's sweet but a bit cutesy, so needs a "proper" name for when she gets older. (Amelie/Camilla/etc).

Associations: I think of a very "girly" girl IYSWIM. Ribbons and gingham. Maybe influenced by Milly Molly Mandy books.

Millie is a beautiful name.

Only problem is everyone thinks the same.

There are thousands of even more beautiful names that are rarely ever used.

Millie is a great name. I have a friend called Millie, she is definitely not what you would call girly, having a Phd in Biochemical Engineering, and now nearly 40 the name suits her fine.

Go with it.

I have a Millie (Millicent), and it suits her down to the ground. She is not at all girly (she is a 4 year old tomboy, who would like to be princessy ,but doesn't quite cut it!).
Despite it's apparent popularity, there are no more at her nursery, or school.

And my Ds is Elliot (7), so i obviously think the two go well together.

I love Milly, DD1's name (full name Emily).

I know a Millie - apparently it is short for Millenium. Gone, guess, which year was she born?

I love it. DTD2 is Emily and I have tried to get her to respond to Millie, but she's not up for it - best I can manage is Emmy.

I'm not keen on Millie. It is very popular (along with Tillie, Ellie, etc) and trendy, and a bit too 'cutesy' for me.

I like it, and think that in the future were she to go into a traditionally male dominated profession it can be cool to have that dissonance.

Really don't like it, sorry! It's ok for a baby but that's where it ends.

I find it really very babyish to the ear and would hate to be a fully grown woman with the name. I would say go for Emily or Amelia and use Millie when she is really small if you really have to but at least give them the option of a real grown up name later on.

i love it! but then my baby is due in november and i'm having amelia with a nn of millie (as someone said previously i'm not sure how millie will sound once shes in her 30's so we wanted her to have a 'propper' name!

I have a 4.7 year old Millicent (Millie) and it suits her perfectly.

Not keen on Millie as it feels very trendy and a bit 'babyish' to my ears.

Having done a bit of Latin, I find the name
Millicent = Milli (thousand) Cent (hundred) rather strange... and not particularly feminine.

I know a few girls called Millie, and one poor girl has just Millie on her birth certificate ('poor girl' is just my opinion - she may love the name all through life!)

It's one of those names which i can never understand why it's so popular.
