Isla and Euan

Hi, I don't know if I'm having a boy or a girl yet. Having lots of difficulty picking names so please give me your opinions. What do people think about the name Isla for a girl or Euan for a boy?

I love Isla. Euan is nice too but I would naturally spell it Ewan.

I quite like Isla but know of 4 under 2 in our reasonably small village. I also like Euan (its DH's name but is spelt Ewen). He will obviously have to spend all his life clarifying the spelling, but at least its only 4 letters !

Like them both. Prefer Ewan spelling though.

I am Scottish and we considered Ailsa but had a boy.

Also like Struan and Campbell.

I love them both -- beautiful names, imo. I love the Euan spelling; Ew... makes me think of my reaction to seeing something unpleasant.

Like Isla for a girl, not keen on Euan though - but that's just my preference. It's nice and simple, short too.

i like them both. and i like euan spelled that way.. ewan seems quite english to me (i'm scottish).

Like them both too - agree with fluffles, Ewan seems a very English way of spelling it (I am Scottis as well!!)

Thanks everyone. Yes, I was wondering about how popular Isla is becoming. Euan doesn't seem to be so popular - maybe more in Scotland. We've got a Mc-surname, but am not truly Scottish, but thought these names went nicely.

I'm sort of Scottish and live in Scotland have a Euan. It's not that popular which is good. Isla becoming V. popular - know of three born in this last year - one in NZ. really like Struan too but DP said it was too out there. Lachlan my favourite boys name but never one this battle on any of my three boys.

I have a euan . It a lovely name. We often call him eue or euey as its quite a hard name for toddlers to pronounce. I have a god daughter called Iyla. A bit different spelling to a populat name. Good luck xx

Thanks. I hope I haven't picked out names too early, still three months to go, because the more I think about a particular name, the more I feel doubtful. But, it's great to get these responses.

What middle names do the Isla's and the Euan's have that you know? We were thinking Catherine and James, but not sure.

Like them both but you may find you're correcting people who spell it Ewan

I've got a Euan George. We chose the name early on and I had a wobble but as soon as he was born he just was a Euan.

His name is spelt wrong quite frequently but as long as people can say it and read it easily I don't think it really matters that much.

Of my 3 dc his name is the most popular but I haven't come across too many others (we're in the Midlands).

Isla is a lovely name - I've heard the name about but don't personally know any at all.

Hello, lovely names! I have a Iwan James, pronounced the same but Welsh spelling. Yes you will find that everyone thinks it's spelt Ewan (I blame Ewan McGregor) and in fact the only one I've met around here, does spell it that way. However, it's not too much of a hardship! There are quite a few Islas nowadays.

My Iwan was probably the last of his peers to say his own name, so I think it is quite difficult to say for toddlers at first.

I like both.

I also like Ailsa for a girl. I know someone with this name and said she occasionally has people try to call her Alisa but mostly people pronounce it correctly!

Mine is a Euan thomas. I have not had any trouble with people spelling it wrong yet, I am sure it will happen though. To be honest you get it with most names. I am jane and people always say "is it with or without a Y"! lol
My husband wanted us to spell the name Ieuan, but I did not want this. Good luck for october. xx

DS1's middle name is Ewan (named after my uncle) - and his little third cousin who was just born a few weeks ago (in NZ) has Ewan as his first name. It does seem to be getting more popular.

Isla is lovely.

How about Ilay for a boy? Promounced the same was as Isla. I used to work with a Scottish man called Ilay.
