It seems like the kids believe strongly in their mother and have turned against their father so this is going to be really tough for them. I wonder who they will live with. What a thing to do to your kids

velvetandsatin · 07/07/2025 10:38

She has heavily triangulated those kids against their father. It is going to take a long time, and no doubt therapy as adults to undo the damage she has done to their minds. It's really sad.

EleanorReally · 07/07/2025 12:05

terrible for the hospital, they had to call the police after she discharged herself against medical advice,
they had to have concerns about her

Interesting article in the Daily Mail that reveals Simon was subject to a gagging order during the trial. At the pre-trial hearing, held in private. he had recounted 4-5 times that he believed Erin had attempted to poison him in the past and he had ended up in hospital and almost died curries, pasta, stew, cookies, wraps etc. He started keeping a spreadsheet and realised that all of his hospitalisations had been preceded by eating food prepared by Erin. He'd spoken about it with his doctor/family. It's why he didn't attend the lunch but he didn't think she'd harm his family.... only him.

Judge Beale refused to allow testimony relating to the previous incidents and attempted murders to be heard during the trial.

The shocking secret about mushroom killer Erin Patterson

In the end, Erin Trudi Patterson's fate was sealed by her lies. She lied about deliberately picking death cap mushrooms. She lied about buying and using a Sunbeam food dehydrator...

Jesus.

When all four guests then fell sick, the family immediately suspected foul play.
Indeed, Don was so convinced that Erin had sabotaged the lunch, he turned up at hospital carrying a container filled with his own vomit, saying it ought to be handed to police ‘because he presumed this could be significant evidence because he thought it could be a deliberate poisoning’.

That, we can now reveal, was the context in which the homicide squad first began investigating Erin Patterson.

Wrenjeni · 07/07/2025 14:31

😱 that article! Simon must be devastated that he had such strong suspicions but didn’t think she’d harm his family.

MoominUnderWater · 07/07/2025 15:31

Can’t believe Simon had previously told his dad that he thought Erin was trying to poison him yet Don and Gail still went for lunch!

An article I read said that the Pattersons and Wilkinsons appeared quite divided walking in and out of court. I do wonder if a schism was created in the Wilkinsons not being warned about the poisoning risk.

Quite how she thought she’d ever get away with it seems insane.

MoominUnderWater · 07/07/2025 17:18

Why on earth when he thought the cookies were poisoned did he not take them to the police? He just binned them!

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 07/07/2025 17:31

Because it sounds so crazy - the police might not take him seriously.

But he physically had the cookies so they could have tested them. He also had medical evidence including surgery and icu stays after previously eating her food. You’d like to think the police would take it seriously enough to send the cookies to the lab!

mokjkjjo · 07/07/2025 18:31

Thanks for sharing that article 😱

Yes he had the cookies and also repeated messages from her asking if he’d eaten them, so the police probably would have taken it seriously especially with his medical history.

Civilservant · 07/07/2025 18:40

BBC article extract about the charges relating to Simon: ‘Erin was originally accused of attempting to murder him too – on several occasions – but those charges were dropped on the eve of the trial and the allegations were not put to the jury’

but on this thread a poster said that although not asked to deliberate on it, the jurors were aware of those charges, from the first day in court. If so, Wonder if that could mean risk of grounds for appeal - allegations prejudicing the jury.

I think they were all scared to upset her.

I think most people were aware of the other allegations. It was well publicized before the trial that she was charged with several counts of attempted murder of Simon.

The judged ruled however that the prosecution could not have all charges tried at a single trial. There would have to be 2 separate trials so Simon was barred from talking about the details of the attempts on his life at this trial. In the end it seems that the prosecution decided to focus on the murder convictions and did not pursue attempted murder charges.

Cantsleepdontsleep · 07/07/2025 21:42

I wonder if they can now try and prosecute for the attempted murder charges on Ian? Has that boat sailed as she now won’t get a fair trial as so much publicity around this one? Plus is there any evidence bar his diary/spreadsheet and hospital notes? I can only think (as an example)about how lucy letby was prosecuted further for baby k, but I think that was because the jury couldn’t reach a verdict rather than a new trial…

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 07/07/2025 22:13

Depending on her sentence, but given it is three counts of murder and 1 attempted murder I suspect it will be long, possibly life - is there any benefit to prosecuting her further?

Do you mean the attempts on Simon? She's been convicted of the attempted murder of Ian.

InWalksBarberalla · 07/07/2025 22:45

This bit from the article shocks me:

Police searches of her computer had found that the device had accessed a document titled A Case Study: What Doses Of Amanita phalloides And Amatoxins Are Lethal To Humans? Amanita phalloides is the scientific name for death cap mushrooms.
Controversially, this wasn’t shared in court, either: the defence told Justice Beale that Erin’s laptop might have somehow automatically downloaded the document. He agreed.

That feels like pretty compelling evidence to be dismissed because her computer might have downloaded it on its own??

The whole country was aware of those charges from November 2023 when the police listed the charges against Erin Patterson. They were written about extensively from 2023 onwards.

Thatsnotmynamee · 07/07/2025 23:08

I was just reading through more of the sweet texts from Gail Patterson to EP on Reddit. She sounded like such a lovely, kind woman. What a waste, what a mind boggling evil.

Dustyblue · 08/07/2025 05:52

Jesus, it's all coming out now isn't it?

I'm horrified that Simon Patterson actually kept a spreadsheet of food Erin had made for him vs sickness he'd experienced. And that it was deemed inadmissible in the legal sense.

Far out- this makes her guilty verdict even more important.

That does seem to be so. It's terribly sad.

The word 'around town' (which I cannot vouch for, just saying) is that the kids are with their paternal uncle & his wife.

How those kids are supposed to blithely go on with their lives, I've no idea. Apart from the previous family breakdown they've now got a mother in prison until she's a very eldery person, an estranged Father, and goodness knows how the adults in their lives will pay for their care.

Erin has clearly blown her huge inheritance (which ideally would've been well-managed and therefore an inheritance for her kids in the future).

It's a disaster anyway you look at it.

And on top of all that, as if that's not enough, their beloved mother effectively called them liars during her trial. She really is shameless.

Dustyblue · 08/07/2025 06:36

Christ you're right, she did too!

Apparently Channel 9 are doing a 1-hour special on this tonight. I don't have free-to-air telly so I won't see it. Possibly someone will put it online tomorrow, or provide a succinct recount 😎
