The mushroom poisoning in Vic.... I am gripped - Part 2

ImustLearn2Cook · 20/08/2023 00:38

Hi everyone, Aussie Mumsnetter here. As some have requested a new thread be started by an Aussie I decided to do it.

I am still gripped by this case and like many, I am awaiting updates of new information.

Will a matching donor for a liver for Ian be found soon? I hope he makes a full recovery.

Will he be able to shed new light on the lunch they all shared?

And of course is she guilty of deliberately poisoning them or was it an innocent mistake?

@OneHornedFlyingPurplePeopleEater interesting that your doubt has also gone. What was the last straw for you, would you say?

Newtonianmechanics · 24/05/2025 13:19

Apparently a juror had to ask what the signal app was?
I guess it's like us in Uk using the telegram app.

It is odd to me. But then the whole case is odd.

White trousers and 9 second toilet stop.

In addition, the detail of the fb post saying about where DC could be found was very much only about the DC as far as I could tell and not a post about foraging in general with an aside about being careful of DC. And the two visits coinciding with these posts, plus the repeated visit to the first site.

Lots of small bits in the last week or so took away any doubt, but the white trousers and 9 second stop leave absolutely no doubt at all.

velvetandsatin · 25/05/2025 01:44

Imagine being undone by a pair of white trousers...

I'm in Australia and didn't know about the Signal app until the Shite House debacle. Not heard of Telegram at all, and I'm in constant touch with people in the UK. Everyone I know seems to use WhatsApp.

Telegram is how the local youths get their weed. Apparently Signal is similar.
Odd it was their family group chat method.
whatspp, iMessage and messenger for most families I think.

Wrenjeni · 25/05/2025 16:17

Also odd that she had 3 phones including a Nokia?

Newtonianmechanics · 26/05/2025 08:06

Texts between EP and public health.

“Hi Erin. Sally from the Department of Health. I spoke with you this morning. I have left a message for you to call me but thought it might be helpful if I let you know the sort of information I want to discuss. I need to know what drinks were served at the lunch. I also need to know what type of shallots you purchased and if you could please give me (a) basic description of the packaging of the mushrooms from the Asian grocer that would be good. Approximate weight and size of the packaging, was it partially see-through or not. And if you can think of the names of the roads you were parking on or near when you went to the different grocery stores then I can get officers out looking around those areas. Even a landmark you might have remembered at the time would be helpful.“

“Hi Sally. Sure I will try to get that information all to you as soon as possible. I’m just dealing with trying to manage and look after the kids in hospital here and a bit snowed under trying to manage that. I’ll get this info to you as soon as I can but I’ve just been in a couple of meetings with people at the hospital when you’ve been trying to call.“
She is a bit snowed under really. 😨

Thatsnotmynamee · 26/05/2025 08:13

Ffs, unbelievable. She was a bit snowed under trying to cover up murder I guess

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 26/05/2025 08:25

Come on, you see it all the time. Someone buys something from a shop that turns out to be contaminated with something deadly.

In their panic to make sure no-one else buys the same thing and gets hurt, they immediately forget everything about what they bought and where they bought it from. And ignore calls from someone whose job it is to track down this kind of contaminated food to reduce the risk to public health.

What's suspicious about that?

ShockedandStunnedRepeatedly · 26/05/2025 09:01

The defence is reduced to trying to cast doubt on technicalities with the copying of the data from the devices… they have nothing.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 26/05/2025 09:55

I didn’t want to belive that she did it.

im now finding it very difficult to not believe that she did something so cruel.

ShockedandStunnedRepeatedly · 26/05/2025 12:00

A poorly executed cover up tho. Could have been much cleverer.

Dustyblue · 27/05/2025 01:16

The defense would have us believe all of her behavior was down to panic.

Would I panic if I served a meal that put people in hospital? Absolutely. But I'm sure as sure I'd be desperate to give the health department and any other authorities EVERY bit of info I could to help them figure out what the fuck had happened. I'd be frantic to know what had happened for fucks' sake.

If she's found not guilty my head will explode.

Newtonianmechanics · 27/05/2025 08:48

Erin could be seen handing him the phone, before she returns her hand to her face.
Sergeant Farrell then asked her if a pin code was required and she replied it was either a 4-digit code or a 6-digit code.
“I don’t know which one,” she said.

she didn't know the pin of her own phone.

Wrenjeni · 27/05/2025 11:20

Really weird that Erin found out that Gail and Heather had died from the police the day after it happened. Why didn’t Simon tell her?!

Maybe he was a bit busy? 🤔

Thatsnotmynamee · 27/05/2025 14:25

Can't believe she actually said, 'I’ve been very helpful with the health department during the week' in her police interview. Very fucking helpful, yeah Erin, gold star.

You don’t think most parents, separated or not, would have called to tell their children that their grandmother had died?

I'm not really sure what you're implying here? I think Simon probably already suspected Erin had something to do with his parents' and aunt's deaths.

Newtonianmechanics · 27/05/2025 16:46

I wonder what she did for the 11 minutes her son was in subway.

velvetandsatin · 28/05/2025 00:33

Drove around dumping the grey plates and the tan/orange one, and a few other items she hadn't had any time since the lunch earlier that day to get rid of that she wouldn't want in her own garbage bin, into a commercial bin somewhere, I think.

TerrorAustralis · 28/05/2025 01:09

I’m not implying anything. I think it’s unusual that a parent wouldn’t tell their children when the children’s grandparent died.

Whether he was suspicious or not, the case was already on the news and there was a risk the kids would find out through the media (or someone who found out before they did, e.g. at school), rather than being told by a family member.

velvetandsatin · 28/05/2025 01:38

The circumstances are highly unusual. Perhaps he also assumed Erin would tell them.
