This has been all over the news. I live one town over from Leongatha and believe me, it's the talk of the towns.

We have loads of mushrooms around our place but wouldn't dream of eating them. About 90% of foraged mushrooms in Australia are poisonous.

Then again, you do get groups of people who think they know what they're doing, and perhaps they do.

Meanwhile this is suss-as.

Three people died from suspected mushroom poisoning after sharing a meal. Here's what we know - ABC News

Three dead and another fighting for life: What we know so far about suspected mushroom poisonings in Victoria

Police continue to investigate three suspected mushroom poisoning deaths after a family lunch last month in Leongatha in Victoria's east. Detectives have not laid any charges, but say the woman who served the meal remains a suspect. Here's what we know...

It’s awful! I wonder as she’s looking at the tears that she’s wiped away-if you’re genuinely upset I don’t think you’d do that. But I’m not an expert at all. Does the ex have the children now?

RoyKentsTieDyeTop · 09/08/2023 10:14

Late to this, but in the video she keeps wiping her eyes and every time she checks her fingers/hands for evidence of tears.

She may not be guilty but she is certainly fake crying.

RoyKentsTieDyeTop · 09/08/2023 10:14

Oh x post!

All the posters who think they are experts in body language should sign up for The Traitors you will win a fortune.

Anyone who's watched it, especially the Australian version, will know that innocent people can act and say stuff that appears very guilty.

😁

wow

MentholLoad · 09/08/2023 10:18

if she is guilty then all the body language 'experts' suffer confirmation bias and it strengthens this idea that innocent women have to behave and present in a certain way.

That's very true. Once at school they had us all lined up and were trying to find out who had trashed the girls' toilets. It wasn't me, but I went bright red, sweating etc., just from the stress I suppose. I must've totally looked guilty. Good job no-one noticed!

Wrenjeni · 09/08/2023 10:20

Yes but it doesn’t say what she cooked

MentholLoad · 09/08/2023 10:21

nah, it doesn't. symptoms are consistent with mushroom poisoning. As yet it hasn't been confirmed that it was mushrooms or whether she served mushrooms

Bruisername · 09/08/2023 10:22

I agree that people don’t always behave the way we expect them to (cross red rape cases where the victim isn’t seen to be traumatised enough). Ultimately the press behaviour is wrong here.

however, this kind of case will always have people talking and guilty or not this will hang over this family for decades (xref Shirley Jackson!)

in Germany they can also take mushrooms to pharmacy. I can see why the pharmacist would be extra cautious. I’ve been in rural french pharmacies where they have big posters showing the different types and the pharmacist is a real specialist. Personally I wouldn’t eat foraged mushrooms but I have family who have been doing it for decades with no ill effect

alwaysonadiet1 · 09/08/2023 10:24

Far fetched I know but what if the ex husband did it for the inheritance? It's fishy that he pulled out at the last minute when it was a lunch for his family. Perhaps he supplied the mushrooms and asked her to cook them. Perhaps he likes foraging for mushrooms and made himself ill by accident the year before.

FerretFarago · 09/08/2023 10:24

My DMum used to pick foraged mushrooms (UK) but stopped after having a frightening experience (well basically what sounds like a “trip” where my DDad had to stop her climbing out of an upstairs window).

This case in Victoria seems to be manslaughter at the very least.

FerretFarago · 09/08/2023 10:25

Correction - my DMum ate foraged mushrooms (none of us would eat them lol).

Today the lady has said that she brought the mushrooms so I'm pretty sure that mushrooms are involved.

TheChosenTwo · 09/08/2023 10:30

I just watched that interview twice and the second time zoomed into her face, I didn’t spot one actual tear. Plenty of rubbing her eyes and face covering moments but not a single drop did I see fall from her eyes. Strange.

Or checking she doesn't having mascara running down her face?

YourNameGoesHere · 09/08/2023 10:33

That interview is like some terrible hallmark film scene, she's not even crying and yet pretending to wipe away tears?

The whole thing is very suspicious especially the fact her ex husband nearly died last year and that she appears not have eaten the same meal as all of her guests, what host does that?

there are loads of reasons that she might eat a different meal; food allergies, preferences, gluten, dairy, meat....she might be on a diet for medical reasons etc. I went to a dinner party once where the host made delicious food for around 10 of us. she say and ate cucumber slices because she was trying to loose weight 🤯

I can understand how four people would eat one thing and three another- maybe she made a fancy pasta sauce for her guests, but a plain one for the children, which she also ate. An accident could easily happen. But she doesn't seem to be owning up to an accident.

My guess is she just wanted to make her guests ill, not kill them.

Sorta like Munchhausen by Proxy? But with mushrooms?

or maybe she is just really, really bad at identifying the toxic ones?

VanGoghsDog · 09/08/2023 10:39

Dustyblue · 09/08/2023 07:30

That's the question hey? It was a casual lunch for 4 adults. Makes sense that the kids ate something else.

But who cooks something, serves it to the guests and sits there watching them eating it?

With some types of poison you can make yourself immune by eating a little at a time and gradually increasing it. Just saying......

Or maybe as is being reported she wanted to stay in the family home post divorce, and so wanted to do away with them all so she could inherit before rhe divorce went through.

The wheels started coming off the plan when the stbx pulled out at last min just before the lunch, but I guess she could always get him (again) after.
