This has been all over the news. I live one town over from Leongatha and believe me, it's the talk of the towns.

We have loads of mushrooms around our place but wouldn't dream of eating them. About 90% of foraged mushrooms in Australia are poisonous.

Then again, you do get groups of people who think they know what they're doing, and perhaps they do.

Meanwhile this is suss-as.

Three people died from suspected mushroom poisoning after sharing a meal. Here's what we know - ABC News

Three dead and another fighting for life: What we know so far about suspected mushroom poisonings in Victoria

Police continue to investigate three suspected mushroom poisoning deaths after a family lunch last month in Leongatha in Victoria's east. Detectives have not laid any charges, but say the woman who served the meal remains a suspect. Here's what we know...

Literally just finished this article and came on here to see if anybody had posted - it’s intriguing!

what was her ex’s precious stomach condition? Wonder if that was her too???

VeryWeirdBarbie · 09/08/2023 05:02

It's very strange, isn't it? I wonder whether we'll ever know for certain what happened.

echt · 09/08/2023 05:03

I know! I've felt a vaguely guilty interest in this, not least because of the deaths. And now the food hydrator found in the tip.

Watching back series of The Brokenwood Mysteries doesn't help.

the hydrator in the tip?

For the sake of the children, I hope it was just a terrible mistake. They have lost their grandparents, their great aunt and their great uncle is fighting for his life. Their father is recovering from a mysterious stomach illness and their mum is a police suspect. Not looking good though.

Gosh, that video of her outside her car….

Janieforever · 09/08/2023 06:36

I’m fascinated by this too. The clear implication being investigated is she’s invited them all over and then proceeded to poison them. As her and her kids at the meal but were not harmed, or didn’t eat the mushrooms, makes it odder, and now her ex seriously sick a year before.

She might just not know anything about mushrooms, and it was an error, or did a bit and didn’t plan to do them in, just make them sick, or of course did fully and planned to kill, but bloody hell.

Not the best source (news.com) but same is being reported in our local paper.

I'd like to think it was an accident, but Leongatha isn't usually crawling with homicide detectives.

Ex-husband of mushroom mum Erin Patterson ‘almost died’ from gut illness | news.com.au — Australia’s leading news site

Fascinating body language, when she says they were the best people and didn’t do anything wrong to her she’s shaking her head in a no.

BitOutOfPractice · 09/08/2023 06:41

Not heard about this till now in the uk but blimey it’s like the plot of a Netflix drama. Did I just read that the ex-H had been invited too?

Dustyblue · 09/08/2023 06:44

She also messed up their names. That is, she said "Don is still in hospital" when it's Ian who's still in hospital and not dead.

Then again, anyone could mess up names under that pressure.

If this was an accident, it's awful that her 2 kids have been removed from her care. She doesn't mention that. Urrgh, I don't know.

Just been reading about this too.
Seems like she wanted to finish the job on the husband invite her ex, but he backed out of the meal

Fascinating body language, when she says they were the best people and didn’t do anything wrong to her she’s shaking her head in a no.

And her eyes tight shut when she's blanking out the questions about the mushrooms.

I see one of those articles says that she fed the kids a different meal (thank goodness), and she didn't get ill herself.

Bloody hell ...

whatchagonnado · 09/08/2023 07:08

Wow, what a story.

Dustyblue · 09/08/2023 07:10

Blimey, the local media are really going off on this.

The property was listed on real estate dot com, when it was last sold in 2019. There are several pics of the garden & mushrooms growing under the trees, like a sales feature. Eeek.

I'm really hoping she's innocent and this is a witch-hunt, but I dunno??

WellThisIsFun1 · 09/08/2023 07:17

I know the kids ate something different, but what did she eat?

Kay00 · 09/08/2023 07:27

Omg that video... She's guilty.

Dustyblue · 09/08/2023 07:30

That's the question hey? It was a casual lunch for 4 adults. Makes sense that the kids ate something else.

But who cooks something, serves it to the guests and sits there watching them eating it?

OP posts:
HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 09/08/2023 07:32

If I was making mushroom something my kids wouldn’t eat it. But it’s suss that she didn’t. But how could the police prove anything? If she claims it was an accident then it would be hard to prove otherwise.

Seddon · 09/08/2023 07:34

Police found the dehydrator she used to prepare the mushrooms at the tip - add that to the suss list!

DigbyTheDigger · 09/08/2023 07:38

What does “going shithouse” mean?

Taylorscat · 09/08/2023 07:39

Joining this thread blimey that video is like watching Prince Andrew all over again

AutumnCrow · 09/08/2023 07:39

And if she did this, she had time to wash everything up and get rid of the evidence. (Possibly ineffectively, if the dehydrator on the tip turns out to be relevant.)

I guess she maybe made something for herself that was similar looking earlier and ate that at the table. Or the mushroom part of the meal was in a serving dish with others and she focused on eating from the others.

What's the lunch etiquette in your part of the world, @Dustyblue? Serving dishes or plated up food?

Those poor, poor people. Personally I think she's dangerous, whatever happened. Hope her kids are OK.
