Has everyone seen that Jock ( the Scottish host from Masterchef Australia) has died? He was only 46? I'm actually shocked. They've postponed the season that was going to start tonight, of course, but it is so sad . He had 4 little kids and a wife. What on earth!

I saw, had to read it a few times as it was such a shock. They looked like the most amazingly happy family on social media, his poor wife and kids, think the youngest was only a couple of years old.

Starlia · 01/05/2023 06:46

Very sad - way too young to die. My thoughts are with his wife and family. RIP Jock

Weesiewoo · 01/05/2023 06:49

Yes, I've just read this too. How horrific for his family and friends. RIP.

Tourmalines · 01/05/2023 06:52

Yea , I’m shocked too . No cause of death yet either. Very sad.

angelopal · 01/05/2023 06:56

That's a shock. Thought he was a great presenter on master chef Australia. Scottish but always watched when it was aired over here.

Turbulent1 · 01/05/2023 06:58

Very sad news, he always came across as a really decent person

ginsparkles · 01/05/2023 07:00

I can't believe it. Such sad news to wake up to this morning. RIP Jock.

Peridot1 · 01/05/2023 07:02

I’m in UK but just got a message about it from my friend in Sydney.

How sad.

Dustyblue · 01/05/2023 07:03

Blimey how awful. His poor family.

Not that it matters really but will they have to shelve the whole season I wonder.. they wouldn't have finished filming it yet. Hard to go on without him.

Poor guy, way too young.

margarine17 · 01/05/2023 07:06

Only 46! The anti-vaxers are on to it but apparently there was a welfare check at 2 am which doesn't sound good. Mind you that could be rubbish as twitter often is. He seemed such a happy ebullient dude. I thought he was wonderful.

Everything points to suicide, it's so terrible. And a reminder that depression/anxiety (which he's spoken about before, particularly anxiety) are serious diseases and it matters not a bit how well your life is going on the outside.

So sad for his wife and family.

tiddlyipom · 01/05/2023 07:55

This is so sad, his poor family.

RegainingTheWill2023 · 01/05/2023 08:11

I'm in the UK but love Masterchef Australia. I've just read the news and am so shocked.
So young. What a tragedy for his family.

Sisisimone · 01/05/2023 08:44

Another Masterchef Aus fan here in the UK. So shocked and saddened by the news.

CoachPiggyStardust · 01/05/2023 08:46

Oh that is so very sad.
He’d talked very openly about his struggles with drug addiction and depression/anxiety so I’m assuming it was related.
His poor family.

freyamay74 · 01/05/2023 08:53

Very sad. He has spoken about various problems and anxiety. There were also some volatile incidents going back in his career so I wonder whether the positive persona we saw on screen masked other aspects of his life.

Willmafrockfit · 01/05/2023 09:22

also in the UK but i seem to get Guardian Australia
i have seen one episode of masterchef Australia and noticed him,
what a shock
very sad

Willmafrockfit · 01/05/2023 09:23

he had been addicted to heroin in the past.
Sad

I am in shock. When the original 3 judges left the show I wasn't convinced I would enjoy the new judges but I thought they were actually better. I loved Jock on the show, thought he was a great judge and his passion for food and actually the welfare of the contestants shone through.
So tragic.

Peridot1 · 01/05/2023 11:30

I’m so sad. Can’t stop thinking about it. We watched Masterchef since season one and like a lot of people I wasn’t sure how I’d find the new panel of judges. And like a lot of people found I liked it more in some ways.

The welfare check has been reported by the ABC and the Guardian, so sadly I think @Dustyblue is right.

It also seems like his colleagues weren’t notified. Masterchef social media was still all systems go this morning.

It’s really sad. My DS who has watched heaps of Masterchef with me was devastated.

Capitulatingpanda · 01/05/2023 13:35

When I heard the news one of the first things I thought of was Anthony Bourdain, it does seem like it was suicide judging by some of the links in the news, lifeline etc.

@Capitulatingpanda You read my mind. I sobbed when Anthony Bourdain died. I watched hundreds of his episodes over the years and truly couldn't believe it.

And Robin Williams.

Terrible disease. His poor wife who tried to help. Too awful.

midsomermurderess · 01/05/2023 21:34

I saw, in the Mail, that he had been diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016, went in to remission but it came back in 2021 and he’d been having treatment since then. It puts a different complexion on things if that is the context.

Me too, they were all so good together, a definite improvement.

It is so sad.
