Welcome sewists new and old.
Before the break we were losing all self control. Fabric buying is a separate hobby. No judgement here. Pop in and share your wins and woes but most of all, please tell me what the heck to do with any current sewing project because I have no idea what i'm doing. Thankyouplease. Smile

I’m selling the pattern book on eBay if anyone is interested

NutellaEllaElla · 04/08/2023 19:01

You could post a link perhaps @Storynanny1 ? I know @PickAChew was after a copy.

I finally finished my bag! Despite making it to my custom measurements and making a toile, it has turned out bigger than I thought. But it is for a weekend, hand luggage bag and it is soft so squashes down so it's fine. And I do love the fabric. We have pockets everywhere, the envelope is 2 pockets in one because it opens up as well as being open at the top! My first proper bag, I'm quite proud. I have a fair amount of fabric left so I could do something else small to accompany it but I'm not sure what.

That envelope is much better.
Perhaps you could use the spare fabric make a cross-body bag or passport/currency holder to wear on your travels to keep stuff safe from pickpockets.

@NutellaEllaElla how about the Made by Rae buttercup bag? It's a free pattern here shop.made-by-rae.com/products/buttercup-bag

I've not made it yet, but it's on my list

NutellaEllaElla · 04/08/2023 20:02

A passport holder would be perfect

PickAChew · 04/08/2023 21:55

That's a fab bag, @NutellaEllaElla

Well done, I love making bags. I’ve got a vintage Laura Ashley pattern which I’ve made several times in different sizes with lots of pockets. One is my knitting bag. Also an Amy Butler one from a charity shop. I bought a press stud gadget thingy which my husband looks forward to using!
However, things didn’t go too well with the collaboration over the technical aspects of pattern creating……! Hence my decision to abandon that plan and sell the book! I just couldn’t get the lines to match up with my irregular shaped body!

SleepingisanArt · 04/08/2023 23:39

@NutellaEllaElla that's a fab bag! I think MapBear would like one (as would i)..

@Storynanny1 - I'm glad I'm not alone with the irregular shaped body!

@NutellaEllaElla one thing I learnt when making adjustments is that draglines generally point in the direction of the problem. So the draglines under the bust appear to be caused by the darts being too high, but the ones higher up point to the shoulder seam. From the photo it looks like that shoulder seam doesn’t sit in the right place and a small narrow shoulder adjustment may be in order.

That should address some of the fit issues around the arm scythe, but I’m not sure if it will address the wrinkling under the arm hole. You may need to lower the armhole a tiny bit to sort that out.

Before making all these changes, if you have a shirt that fits you well, it’s always worth comparing the arm scythes (turn the arm inside each garment if it’s a shop bought shirt or compare the pattern pieces if not) That should confirm if these changes are needed, or if you need to do something else with the arm scythe.

NutellaEllaElla · 05/08/2023 09:02

That's a great tip thank you @CrimsonAlligator. I think I might try the next size up, as well as lowering the dart, as there is room for more ease and it might kill a few birds.

Great bag @NutellaEllaElla . I have also made the buttercup bag but it is quite small.

I have cut out fabric to make another Deer & Doe Myosotis dress but am procrastinating about starting it.

Tinuviel · 05/08/2023 17:02

Great bag, @NutellaEllaElla ! Love all the pockets, especially the envelope one.

The dresses I made were mostly a really easy pattern that came with my sewing magazine a couple of months back. But I also made a 50s style one and a fitted dress in a lovely stretchy cotton.

GnomeDePlume · 05/08/2023 17:09

@NutellaEllaElla that bag is excellent. I'm really impressed!

@SleepingisanArt I love map bear. Really sweet.

I have managed to get two projects finished today. A Muna and Broad Tarawi shirt. I have made this several times. The box pleat at the back means you can move without it feeling like it's pulling. The fabric is a batik print from Dalston Mills. It's a lovely fabric to work with, light without being transparent.

The other project finished is a cross back apron for DM for Christmas. I added buttons on the shoulders so it can be adjusted at little bit.

Thank you @Storynanny1 - I've forwarded the link to DH.

@NutellaEllaElla it does look a little tight around the shoulders so sizing up (as you had already tried sizing down) seems like a sensible next step.

Cute apron, @GnomeDePlume and the buttons on the shoulders are a sensible idea. I love the fabric of your shirt. Such a gorgeous colour.

I've been butchering some Plateau Joggers, this week. They're black, it's been so dark and DS2 at home for the summer is really hitting my ability to concentrate, resulting in some careless errors.

kittykarate · 05/08/2023 17:56

I've had a wet Saturday 5 project finish off! 2 trivial, taking up 2 pairs of leggings, and 3 real ones. I made 2 Named Leanne t shirts and 1 Grainline Corin.

I think the Leannes would be better in a plain fabric, as I think the pattern hides the pleats in the pattern.

GnomeDePlume · 05/08/2023 18:23

Impressive project finishing there @kittykarate . I think you are right that the pleats will show more on a plain fabric but also they are more of a hidden detail which doesn't shout out 'here I am'. I'm getting splinters from this fence!

Thank you @PickAChew blue is definitely my colour!

kittykarate · 05/08/2023 18:40

That blue is spectacular @GnomeDePlume I'm always impressed with people who can make shirts.

InMySpareTime · 07/08/2023 18:42

Today I made a 2 inch long sea snail and a 3ft long whale 🐋 for a story session.
I still need more stuffing and need to sew the eyes, but otherwise they're all done.

bookbook · 07/08/2023 19:03

I am way behind , but today I finished dungarees for my twin granddaughters . Before I get to daughters wrap dress , I have a quick birthday present to make ( a sliding pencil case ) and 3 pairs of school trousers to take up and hem . There always seems to be something to do first !

Brefugee · 07/08/2023 19:51

The dungarees are lovely, love the motiv, and really love the reverse colours.
Finished the T-shirt into dress, and it worked out quite well. Now i know what to look out for when i make the next one.

Amazing work @Brefugee!
@bookbook those are completely adorable!
@InMySpareTime I really want to see your 3 foot whale!

thank you, i was having all sorts of connipations because i don't like gathering (using pleats for the next one because i think it looks tidier).
I may also put something round the sleeve ends, to connect the top more to the bottom. (I've seen ruffles but i just think a plain band of skirt fabric would work - it's black/white gingham for the next one)
