talking of jewellary, my friend is really successful and makes stuff to sell to shops. She uses lampwork beads and swarovski crystal, and sells at about double what it costs her to make them, then the shop whacks on another massive (at least) 100%. She said she was in one shop and the woman there had just sold a bracelet that cost her about a fiver to make for £70!!! . A fool and their money are easily parted, it seems

Dior- actually the next challenge I was going to write was going to be a sea side, ocean one so I guess you would be ahead of the game... I made two bracelets yesteday but not taken any pictures of them yet...

meridian · 28/05/2008 09:49

Ooh meri - I like the sound of an ocean/seaside challenge. My favouritist thing in the whole wide world ever .
Have finally blogged (not to mention finished) my elusive knitted bag. Sorry to Ranting - it didn't get the nice lining. It just didn't look right. I think because the bag is so thick. Anyways take a look ladies .

jeangenie · 28/05/2008 10:36

good luck with the fair Whizz

well done on completed dolls and commisions everyone

good luck with sewing machine hunting GM

I've blogged my miniquilt received and photos from my day out at chelsea last week... my brother came over from Ireland and took me - was a real treat (I am lucky with my brother, he is a sweetheart)

am off to work now and meeting ranting tonight to do a bit of knitting at iknit - if anyone else is around and fancies coming just turn up!

jeangenie · 28/05/2008 10:37

MP - I did get your email and have drafted a reply - am just tracking down street names for you as I never know them, I just know where I am going

hopefully later today, if I get a moment free at work

just wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten you

mistypeaks · 28/05/2008 10:40

thanks genie.

Miaou · 28/05/2008 12:13

Oooooh I got a lovely parcel today!!! My watch has arrived

I asked Meri to make me a watch, and it came today! It is sooooo gorgeous, I keep admiring it on my wrist. It is a perfect fit, and best of all, it's just what I wanted!

She was brill because I had certain ideas about what I wanted but she gently steered me in the right direction - I had chosen a toggle which just wouldn't have worked with the face I wanted - I think her choice is FAR better and I am really pleased that she didn't let me have my way on that one . This girl knows her stuff!!!

Anyhoo, I will blog it later but just now I MUST get some lunch then we are off to the library this afternoon.

Thank you meri

meridian · 28/05/2008 13:50

thank you Miaou ... I'm glad you like it... strangely enough we just got back from the library, DS has a pile of books and there was a book sale so I bought 3 sci-fi paperbacks for 5p each and one hardback thats in poor condition for 20p. the hardback I'm going to dissasemble to do more painted pages....better then it not selling and just being recycled I think... I will see if I can talk DH into doing me some mounts and then pop some up in my etsy shop and see if there is any intrest... perhaps i'm putting the card before the horse here I just like the look and feel of the little painted pages... we shall see.. off to take DS for his swim lesson.

Nbg · 28/05/2008 14:15

Oooh lots of posts and stuff.

JG, my parents went to Chelsea last week too.
They loved it and I've told them if they go next year, I'll be going with them.

Miaou your doll is great.
I've stuck him on flickr and I checked out Margys blog to see if shes shown hers but nothing yet.

Misty well done on the bag. It looks great!

Vintage, have flickered your doll too.

Good luck with the fair whizzz.
I'm clueless with pricing too.
Hope you do well.

LK, any sewing machine news?

The winner for my giveaway was a lady whose blog is called Tintocktap.

Another question.
Where could I buy card boxes about the size of a shoe box?
I want them to put my finished dolls in because I hate just wrapping them in paper.
My parcels always come ripped.
Any ideas?

jeangenie · 28/05/2008 14:34

MP have emailed you at last

jeangenie · 28/05/2008 14:35

NBG - I am going again next year for sure so maybe see you there! My sis in law is determined to come over from Ireland again (don't think my poor bro could take another trip - he said it was like trying to herd goats with the two of us taking off in different directions every two minutes!)

Nbg · 28/05/2008 14:49

lol!

My dh would have to be dragged there kicking and screaming I think.
My MIL was saying that when she went it was the last day and you have to watch your purse because they sell off all the plants really cheap!

We really want to do something with our little courtyard. Its still got the old coal bunker and what would have been outside toilet building and they really could do with being knocked down.
Going to Chelsea would give us some great ideas.

Miaou · 28/05/2008 15:10

NBG - why not go to a few local shoe shops and ask if they have any spare boxes? Not everyone takes them. You could then cover them in wrapping paper if you wanted to "de-shoe" them

Nbg · 28/05/2008 15:16

De shoeing

Yes I could do. I was thinking of presentation aswell and tbh i'm not known for my recovering skills.
I could never cover my school books well

I forgot to say that I got that fabric from the freecycle lady.
All 3 bin bag size full of it!!!!

Soooo if anyone would like some, please say so and I'll be happy to send you some.
Theres way too much.
Just tell me what sort of colours your after and I'll try and get it together.

Miaou · 28/05/2008 15:28

oooh - I might be tempted by that NBG ... will have a think ...

OK I have thought

What sort of fabrics have you got?

If you have some silky or shiny ones that would do for bag linings, might be interested in those ...

Eeek, I am bad at choosing really - but I would love some bits to make samples for the bridal shop, so anything satin/silk / bride/bridesmaidy would be good ... plus I want to make a couple of little bags as mother of the bride matching outfit type things ... can I ask you to use your judgement? Is that fair?

jeangenie · 28/05/2008 15:34

NBG - as a result of my trip to chelsea our entire garden is now dug up (and currently under plastic sheeting as DH tries valiantly not to let it turn into a mud bath with all the rain) He loves me (and my mad notions) dearly right now

I would definitely recommend it for inspiration, and for getting plant wisdom...I have very little sun in my garden and the wise old plantfolk were able to guide me in the right direction (I hope!)I know have addresses of lots of garden centres to visit when we go to southwold next. I haven't broken this news to DH yet. I don't think he could take it right now...

(he sounds like your dh NBG - chelsea would be his idea of unmitigated HELL)

Nbg · 28/05/2008 15:42

lol lol

your poor dh

Miaou I do have some shiny stuff actually.
I still have your address from the doll swap so I'll post it out for you.
Wont be while friday though.
Let me know if you think of anything else.

mistypeaks · 28/05/2008 16:17

NBG - There are loads of boxes on ebay. I selected this page for some reason , but there are quite a lot more . . . You could easy jazz the plain ones up with a photo of the doll, some ribbon and a little tag with her name on it.

mistypeaks · 28/05/2008 16:19

Also NBG please delete your post. I musn't be tempted, if I were to suddenly aquire yet more fabric I fear DH may divorce me . Unless of course you have anything silver or sparkly? I need to make a stuffed star for dds fairy wand. They keep smacking each other with the plastic ones so I thought I'd make a nice softie one .

Nbg · 28/05/2008 18:54

Thanks for the link misty, will check them out.

Honestly you can have some but there isnt anything sparkly I'm afraid.

Miaou · 28/05/2008 19:34

Oh, NBG, if you have any small flower print and/or polka dot going spare too ... OK I will stop now (and please let me know how much I owe you for postage )

And happy birthday too!!

Nbg · 28/05/2008 19:39

Theres alot of flower stuff, suprisingly no spots though.

Not sure about p&p. I dont think it will be that much.
I'll weigh it all and let you know.

vInTaGeVioLeT · 28/05/2008 21:55

Nbg can you link to the dollswap flicker page, please? I had a look on your blog but i couldn't see it. Have a great birthday tomorrow
