I’ve just bought a sewing projector as it’s got 30% off and costs about the same as getting 3 or 4 average patterns printed. I’m planning on projecting onto paper rather than direct to fabric. Has anyone used one?

Daffyyellow · 12/10/2024 18:01

Ooh @Jins we need a link to the projector and the deal please!

I think I would do the same and project onto paper, I write my notes directly onto my traced pieces and also it would be easier to make adjustments.

Daffyyellow · 12/10/2024 22:14

Woohoo, projector bought - by my Dad for me. Thank you @Jins!

twobluechickens · 12/10/2024 22:57

Made a good start on my Phen shirt but have given up for the night as the bias binding isn’t long enough for the sleeve vents. Nobody else seems to have documented this as an issue and the instructions show it running the full length of the vent so presumably I’m supposed to stretch it out even more? Or maybe I’ll just cut some longer bias.

PickAChew · 12/10/2024 22:59

Just cut more. The stretch is meant to get it round corners rather than defy basic physics,

😂

I’ll cut some more tomorrow. I can see why this pattern has driven people demented.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/10/2024 23:59

Just ordered 3 metres of this which I think might just be the prettiest fabric I’ve ever seen.

Yalz · 13/10/2024 01:38

Very pretty, @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie . What do you have planned for it?

Jins · 13/10/2024 08:35

@Daffyyellow I’m praying to the gods of technology that I can manage projection. I’m glad to have a companion 🤣

Love that fabric @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie. I had to click away quickly in case I ended up with an impulse purchase.

Sadly I’ve added to my stash after popping into Abakhan for elastic. I’ve picked up two big pieces of cotton spandex jersey which feel like much better quality than I’m used to. The white and black pinstriped one is going to be 3/4 and elbow sleeve T shirts but the blue floral’s fate is uncertain.

twobluechickens · 13/10/2024 17:22

I occasionally do moth trapping for work (live release, nothing harmed!) and that fabric is right up my street!

CrimsonAlligator · 13/10/2024 18:40

That’s lovely @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie. Do you know what you’re going to make with it yet?

I was planning to start my 2nd Archer shirt this weekend, but I still haven’t received the fabric I ordered from Minerva over a week ago. I’m not impressed!

I’ve spent my time planning a sewing room instead, which was kind of more exciting anyway. Think it’s going to be a long term project as DH is planning to build all furniture from scratch. I’m so excited and a touch overwhelmed by the possibilities! ☺️

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/10/2024 18:48

Thanks everyone. I think I might just make an Indigo, unless anybody wants to recommend an equally straightforward dress which doesn't require zips or buttons. I'm thinking perhaps making it with a double tier and with waist ties that tie at the sides, if I could work out how to do that!

Funnily enough, I'm terrified of moths in real life, but I do like pictures of them!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/10/2024 18:49

The sewing room sounds so exciting, @CrimsonAlligator

This sounds very noble and very scary! :)

They’re so beautiful, we have some really pretty species here. I used to be scared of them but they’re just night-flying butterflies :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/10/2024 19:35

I'm scared of butterflied too! Love them in the distance, but don't like to be too close to them.

PickAChew · 13/10/2024 19:37

The moth fabric is gorgeous.

I've heard of a few people having problems with Minerva, recently.

bookbook · 13/10/2024 22:09

That fabric is gorgeous!
I had an hour yesterday going spare ( hah! ) , so cut out a couple of bits to make things for a craft sale . Using a second hand paper pattern I bought in the charity shop . Using up scraps and spare bits - doing the small canister ( looks a suitable size for a small project bag , and the small notions triangular thing with a zip , ( that looks a bit faffy , but I liked the look of it ) . Hopefully I will get at least the canister done tomorrow . If it works well , I may do the bigger ones later for me - I could do with something to pop work into when its not in current use :)

bookbook · 13/10/2024 22:47

Ooh , you reminded me @PickAChew - I’m sure I have some of the patterns from there on my computer somewhere !

Jins · 14/10/2024 08:21

I’ve had a play with my projector, I need to connect it to my laptop to figure out the rest but it looks as if the picture will be clear enough. As DH pointed out - it’ll be good for movie nights even if I fail with pattern projection.

Today I’m going to finish a pair of LN allegros in a random low stretch rib knit then I need to rethread the machines for lighter colours.

I love those organisers @bookbook and @PickAChew. Good scrap buster projects as well!

Crispynoodle · 14/10/2024 18:01

Lovely! Joining to get inspiration to finish UFOs

twobluechickens · 14/10/2024 23:17

Hello and welcome @Crispynoodle !

I could definitely do with some of those organisers, what a great way to use up scraps (of which I have plenty)!

Just did the collar on my Phen shirt which I was dreading (collars are my nemesis and the fabric is prone to fraying) but it actually went really well. I redid the bias binding on the sleeve vents with the same bias pieces but a bit more stretched out - would definitely make them longer next time but they look fine so sod it. Now just need to add sleeves, sew up the sides and hem it all, which should keep me busy at my sewing social tomorrow.
