That ancient pfaff will undoubtedly need a good oiling and running in if not a full service, @ShoAndSew so you really need to take it away and make sure it's all working as it should be and make sure it gets any of the tlc it needs.

Jins · 18/10/2024 09:44

I agree with @PickAChew. If it’s been in the attic it’s going to need checking over thoroughly and that can take a long time.

Rosenspants · 18/10/2024 11:27

@ShoAndSew I sympathise. Had a ‘mare moving elderly, widowed DM primarily because of her inability to let go of anything. Even broken, obsolete rubbish. You’ve reminded me she has a beautiful ancient Singer. All shiny black and gold.
Meanwhile I have ordered this lawn for my flippy skirt endeavours https://poundfabrics.co.uk/products/floral-bloom-cotton-lawn-fabric?variant=40577851326487
might be a bit see through, though. Am looking at tutorials for adding a lining to skirts.

Yeah I opened the door to the attu. And suddenly there were a billion things to do so - meh.
One day...
Pretty fabrics @Rosenspants

I need to make a screen type curtain to attach to a pair of tables in a school library. Each one probably 100cm wide by 80cm deep. The children are 3-7. I would like to make it literary, book or character themed. School - so minimal budget. Any suggestions please?

You can sometimes find Roald Dahl or Harry Potter print fabric on offer. Worth a google.

InMySpareTime · 19/10/2024 06:11

Scour charity shops for literary themed duvet covers, or project book images onto a sheet and (get the kids to) draw them on in pencil then colour in with fabric pens.

Daffyyellow · 19/10/2024 14:09

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie @InMySpareTime thanks both! I think a duvet cover might be the answer, if not children’s drawing on a sheet.

bookbook · 19/10/2024 21:10

@ShoAndSew , I think I too would go along the lines if ‘let me get it serviced’ if that would work ? Must be hard to just leave it there , if it can be put to good use.
I was out and about yesterday , passed a fabric and yarn shop .. . Yes , I did buy some😀
I also found time to get a bit of sewing time . I finished the canister organiser , and also made the little pyramid pouch . I doubt I will use the pattern again . A clunky construction for both items, leaving seams inside unfinished . Just says ‘finish seams’ I ended up binding the seams in the pouch ( its going to a charity craft sale ) . If I had kept it to use , I would just have overlocked it . The canister I did the way I line all bags - one inside the other , ( wrong sides together ) . Today , I have been cutting out a little needle case with the last scraps of the puffin material , a project bag ,and a new to me tote bag pattern . Sewing day tomorrow😊

That little pouch is so cute!

Daffyyellow · 19/10/2024 21:16

@bookbook love both of those, well done.

Jins · 20/10/2024 00:50

Love those @bookbook

I have done some sewing today but no pictures because I’m not proud of my work. I tackled the overlocker cover. Started well then ironed the fusible fleece to the right side of the biggest piece by mistake. No fusible fleece left so cut another piece of main fabric and decided to quilt it. I managed about 6 diagonal rows, got bored and put it together as it was. It looks awful but fits the overlocker perfectly so I’m calling it a win. Won’t be making one for the coverstitch though!

i bought a daylight lamp in Lidl yesterday and it’s perfect. It saved me going any further with some hemming as I’d inadvertently picked up very dark blue thread to hem some black trousers by hand. Only a short section to undo thank goodness.

ShoAndSew · 20/10/2024 08:22

@bookbook those are cute, and the Puffin fabric is lovely. I won't make things with exposed seams anymore.

I've left my mum's - good idea with the service, I'll be back in 2 months so time to work on that.

@Jins we learn something from every project, even if it is: never making that again ❤️😂

Isabelle70 · 20/10/2024 08:41

I have made my elderly dog a couple of jumpers from a fleece mermaid tail from the charity shop.

This is a very happy and stylish elderly dog. 😍😍😍

Frumpyunicorn · 20/10/2024 09:35

I love the dog coat and puffin bag! I have almost finished my wearable toile of the style arc belle dress, just the buttons and buttonholes to go (so plenty of opportunity to mess up!). I am pretty pleased with how it went although I am not sure how much I love the sleeves, I might have a rethink for the proper version.

Jins · 20/10/2024 11:24

Oh the dog coat pics are adorable ❤️

@ShoAndSew you are so right! I have definitely learned that quilting isn’t for me 🤣

If I get a chance today I’m hoping to have another play with the projector. I’m also hoping to get a couple of tops cut out - just a basic T- shirt and a basic tank.

twobluechickens · 20/10/2024 11:31

The dog coat 😍 your dog is lovely too. I also love the pouch and canister bag - never tried something like that.

I’ve finally finished my Phen shirt and am really pleased with it. Will need some alterations for the next one but thanks to whoever advised me about the reviews (sorry can’t remember!) - my advice would be to ignore the instructions completely and watch Sewing Therapy’s sewalong on youtube.

PickAChew · 20/10/2024 11:31

Aww, she models them so well @Isabelle70 😍

PickAChew · 20/10/2024 11:32

That looks great @twobluechickens and I love that colour.

twobluechickens · 20/10/2024 11:34

Thanks! It’s a lovely viscose linen in a greeny turquoise - much more vibrant than it looks in the photo!

Jins · 20/10/2024 11:59

That viscose linen is perfect. Despite wearing black most of the time I’m drawn to turquoises and teals. Great job @twobluechickens

twobluechickens · 20/10/2024 12:22

Thanks! I’m also wearing turquoise jeans and a turquoise fleece, thus meeting the requirements for the #dresslikeacrayon hashtag 😂

bookbook · 20/10/2024 12:47

That looks fabulous@twobluechickens - impressed with the buttonholes !!

twobluechickens · 20/10/2024 21:12

@bookbook my machine has automatic buttonholes but they can be a bit temperamental. This time all went well!
