and while I enjoy craft for the fun of the process, really don't want to make anything that won't be used.

That's partly why I like making socks - everyone always needs socks Smile and they don't take up much space, especially when they're on your feet Grin

crazyjing I’ve actually been eyeing up a sock pattern!

lucysmam · 01/02/2022 21:33

@CrochetBug your square is beautiful - I had to go back to look again for the missing stitches. I hope you're doing ok?

I really like making socks! I have another pattern I want to purchase but finishing the things I've been asked for first. Never thought I'd say that 🤣

Good news re the doggy jumper - he had a doggy sleepover at "nannas" last night so I sent it to be tried on and it fits well (I thought it maybe a little bit big) so I'll finish that this week & Winston will be the snazziest dachshund around!

I'm on the hunt for T-Rex and stegosaurus patterns for my friends boys if anyone sees anything on their internet travels & wouldn't mind linking 🦖🦕

CrochetBug · 02/02/2022 09:28

Thanks @lucysmam I'm ok. It doesn't really feel real tbh. I'll be doing whatever and suddenly "Kingsleys dead" pops into my head. Its weird.

I like making socks too. I have 3.5 pairs Grin. But sock yarn is expensive and isn't always machine washable. I made some with 'normal' yarn but they aren't as durable.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 02/02/2022 10:01

@CrochetBug It's so hard isn't it - sending lots of love.

I only have one pair of handmade socks, made for me as a birthday present by my aforementioned excellent knitter of a Mum many years ago. They are bedsocks knitted in cream 100% cashmere, and they are divine! I haven't worn them since DD was born, and she is nearly 7, because I refuse to ruin them by letting them touch the floor and she still occasionally calls in the night.

crazyjinglist · 03/02/2022 21:12

Yaaawwwn... I'm tired after another busy week of supply. Fridays are always good though- nice easy teaching in my village - adults in the morning, primary in the afternoon.

Just sitting down to finish my first mitten (for the 2nd time, in the right size this time!).

Oh also I've got an interview next Thursday! Maybe someone will finally give me a job...

OP posts:
lucysmam · 03/02/2022 21:29

@CrochetBug yeah I understand the weird feeling.

My dk socks are holding up well - I do only wear them for bed though so not really much wear & tear on them.

I've just finished the dachshund jumper. It's tiny &, fingers crossed, matches the recipients measurements almost exactly.

@sophs29 I think it was you who commented when I posted about paint area activities; this popped up in my fb feed yesterday (sorry if it wasn't you!).

@crazyjinglist where's the job at? Hopefully it's yours!

It's a languages teaching job at one of the two secondary schools where I do supply, @lucysmam. They've actually got two posts available - they're looking for a full-timer and a part-timer. I'd take either!

It's all @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack 's fault!!!

I got distracted by wonderwool
& only just escaped out of the dark hole....

@CrochetBug I'm sorry, I hadn't read your list when I started writing mine. I'm so very sorry to hear about your friend dying. I love your square in his honour!! Sometimes life is very shit (((HUG))).
Your Kingsley Cushion sounds perfect!! I can't believe you did it in a day, I am SO Slow!!! Oh & wouldn't have noticed 2 blue stitches were missing. You've probably finished your cushion now! But you could do another Kingsley square & turn it into a bag so he can go places with you!

@lucysmam. Winstons coat looks lovely!! I really need to see a photo of him wearing it! When is he getting his present?? You're fast too, I can't believe how incredibly slow I must be!!

@crazyjinglist. Fingers crossed for your job, I suppose you can't put life on hold until DH gets his job sorted!!

MerylSqueak · 04/02/2022 06:42

@JugglingJanuary I feel like I am a a very slow knitter. I need some little projects I think although I have just started a double bedspread Hmm

I love that dog jumper @lucysmam! He'll look very dapper.

Well done you @crazyjinglist. My fingers are crossed for you.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 04/02/2022 07:02

If I was a dachshund, I’d love that jumper, @lucysmam!

And my cowl scarf is finally finished. The borders are a bit frilly, like I’ve got too many stitches. But I don’t think you would notice when wearing it.

DD has been harassing me to make something else for her next, but I’m not sure what. I made her an octopus before and she loved it (I’ve added a picture of that too), so I think she’s thinking something similar, but I didn’t really enjoy it (it was very fiddly).

Thanks. Yes, I have to apply for jobs when they come up! But if I get offered this one amd then dh gets the Surrey one, I'll have to retract my acceptance! That's nit something I'd normally think of doing, but I wouldn't have much choice really!

Oh wow @lucysmam that little dog jumper is lovely! I've often thought about making my mums dogs jumpers but not sure what my dad would think as he's the one that walks them 😂 and love that paintbrush idea!!

@QuantumWeatherButterfly that cowl is lovely! Would really brighten up an outfit!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 04/02/2022 07:58

Good luck for the job crazy

Lcuysmam lovely little dog jumper

Quantum your scarf looks great. I made this for a friend’s DD - www.etsy.com/uk/listing/111849479/amigurumi-puppy-pattern-crochet-dog?ref=yr_purchases. It’s a paid for pattern but it isn’t too fiddly. The main fiddly bit is embroidering the nose and tongue. If she has any favourite TV shows, there will almost certainly be patterns for those characters. If you want to avoid fiddly, avoid fingers for now. I’ve also made this little fairy - www.sweetsofties.com/2020/06/woodland-leaf-fairy.html?m=1. I forgot to make the flower crown which is probably the fiddliest bit but not crucial (unlike octopus tentacles). Attaching the hair is not so much fiddly but it is time consuming and I couldn’t be bothered to brush it out after. I made DD an octopus, Paul, but I’ve still not embroidered his face. I think he’s just going to be Paul the Faceless octopus forever now.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 04/02/2022 08:57

Oops sorry not very @JugglingJanuary Grin Did you see anything interesting when you were there?

That's lovely @QuantumWeatherButterfly!

Good luck @crazyjinglist!

I think the black work is stunning @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

We're all down with covid here and my brain is mush so I've packed in my new sample knit and apologised.

I couldn't make the gague at all, the pattern said 3.5mm needles and I was down to 2.25 and not making it yet the tension was almost enough to snap my wooden needles on the increases. It was the straw that broke the camels back with everything else going on. Can't wait to see the finished object when someone else does it though and I can have a good look at the gague they've used Confused

NiceCardigan · 04/02/2022 09:12

Your scarf looks great Quantum I’m tempted by that as my next project. I’m currently crocheting granny squares to make into a bag - I need 27 and currently on number 24.

NiceCardigan · 04/02/2022 09:17

I’m not surprised you gave up on the sample knit Flavia it sounds like it still needs some tweaking! I hope you all feel better soon.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 04/02/2022 09:21

Thanks NiceCardigan Yes, it utterly baffled me, the finished fabric must be able to stand up by itself.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 04/02/2022 09:59

Thanks, @NiceCardigan - I enjoyed making it. It's nice to finish something. During my many, many years of failed attempts at knitting, I left a trail of half made things in my wake!

There's a granny square bag on my to-do list too, but I think I'm going to go for a simple amigurumi thing for DD (thanks, InTheNight for the inspiration) to keep her quiet and then I need to work out what else I can make from my stash. I daren't buy any more yarn until that's a bit smaller! There's a shrug-style cardigan I fancy that's basically one huge granny square that I might tackle next for me.

JugglingJanuary · 04/02/2022 10:50

Urgh. I mean, I've only been on Mumsnet a million years You think I'd have learnt NOT to click on links when composing a message. Lots the whole lot!!

NiceCardigan · 04/02/2022 11:00

How about this for a next project Quantum

(must go and do some work and get off pinterest)

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 04/02/2022 11:58

Ooh, I do love a poncho, nicecardigan!

I think I’m going to do this for DD first and ponder some more:

JugglingJanuary · 04/02/2022 12:33

@QuantumWeatherButterfly

The cactus is cute!!

How old is DD? After cactus, how about a couple of pots/storage things for her room? Lap blanket for 'tv cuddles' or a shoulder bag- never too young or old for a bag!!

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack

I saw lots!! Sorry that's not very helpful. I was mostly focussed on the practicalities- will I feel up to going by then - covid wise (I'm CEV, so don't really do anything other than work), driving (I had an accident last year and although I drive everyday for work now, I'm not sure my body is up to such a long drive (3-4 hours from here) etc

I'm sure I'll have another look at the site soon!

@CrochetBug. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend Kingsley. Your square is great, I'm sure you've already turned it into a cushion by now, but I had a couple of other ideas too (you could make more squares!!) if you use one & it wouldn't be 'too weird' a hot water bottle cover and/or a bag (you could then take him out places with you!

@MerylSqueak. Bed cover done as one piece I'd really struggle with. Practically, the daunting'ness of each row being a million stitches & physically. Good luck!!

JugglingJanuary · 04/02/2022 12:38

Oh grief! I'm getting in a real tangle with the thread, let alone any wool!!

The long post I lost has confused me with what I've replied to & what I haven't.

Sorry!!
I'll try to sort it my head out 🤯

If you haven't got brain fog - make the most of it!!!!
