Oook!

I suspect the Librarian knits.

@sophs29 I spotted that Simply Crochet have another stash-building subscription offer. It's different to the one I got but still looks good.

Oh dear...@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius it's not just you making mistakes...my stitch count on the first two rounds of the dog jumper body is ten stitches out...I've started making the wrong bloody size 🙄 so now I need to frog the lot. Just when I was admiring how nice the colour is & how quickly it's working up 🤦‍♀️🤯

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 29/01/2022 21:15

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius @crazyjinglist As you might have surmised from my username, I'm right there with the Pratchett fandom.

As I am a crochet newbie, I haven't yet trained DH not to interrupt my counting. Given I am not good at keeping numbers in my head, and even worse at counting stitches after the fact, this is definitely an oversight!

lucysmam · 29/01/2022 21:17

@QuantumWeatherButterfly get yourself a boat load of stitch markers!

crazyjinglist · 29/01/2022 21:22

The only response to being talked at while counting is to count more loudly!

Good evening everyone, I hope you don’t mind me popping in here. I’ve started crocheting again after a looong break. I made these two figures from a kit I was given many years ago. I want to make another but I can’t find the yarn I need. It’s Hayfield Bonus DK Wheat (no 816). I haven’t been into an actual shop yet but I can’t find anything online. Does anyone know the fate of this shade?

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 30/01/2022 08:29

@crazyjinglist ah - now I see where I’ve been going wrong: counting in my head!

crazyjinglist · 30/01/2022 09:35

Hi @ghislaine - looks like it might have been discontinued in that colour. Even Sirdar's own website doesn't list it.

OP posts:
CrochetBug · 30/01/2022 13:03

@ghislaine I think it's been discontinued but they have lots of similar looking shades. Or any brand that's the same fibre content (100% acrylic) would work.
Unless you're after an exact colour match to finish something.

crazyjinglist · 30/01/2022 13:26

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack - do you know much about the Ashford Joy vs the Kiwi? There's one available on that FB group, not far from me, with carrying bag, bobbins etc plus 'more fibre than you could spin in a lifetime' for £500 ono, and the wheel on its own is normally over £600...

OP posts:
FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 30/01/2022 14:28

@crazyjinglist I saw that one, the joy is a nice wheel, I’ve used it and would have considered it but that it was so much more expensive than the kiwi. I don’t know about that particular wheel tbh, it looks like it’s had some tape added to the flyer? It could be something else but it looked like dirty zinc tape! And the fluff sticking to the guides made me wonder how much maintenance it gets. I’m being judgy about that bit...

Also a pile of uncarded fleece that someone else has picked might not be a good thing. I don’t know tbh, I think I’d rather save my money and use it to buy already processed fibre and a brand new kiwi and have change but the joy does have 4 ratios instead of 3 and it’s more compact and has a bag...

crazyjinglist · 30/01/2022 14:43

I think you're right - and £500 is more than I wanted to spend anyway, especially for a secondhand wheel!

OP posts:
crazyjinglist · 30/01/2022 14:45

Anyway, I can't actually see myself carrying my wheel anywhere Grin

Oooh thank you so much @QuantumWeatherButterfly those colours aren't really jumping out at me though 😭 do you find the magazines useful/enjoyable?

@alloutofcareunits that blanket is absolutely stunning!! I love all those colours! And the jumper is a real work of art!

CrochetBug · 31/01/2022 00:41

Made this "granny" Square today. I'd had the pattern on my Ravelry favourites for a while, but had no need to make it just for the sake of it, and wasn't entirely sure what I'd do with it if I made one.

The pattern is called "Kingsley" which was my friends name (and the reason I originally favourited it) so it seemed appropriate to make one. I probably would have either made him a blanket or a cushion cover from it at some point. I think mine will be a cushion so I can hug him when I need him. Sad (and yes there are 2 light blue stitches missing. I think I can fix that pretty easily)

I always find it's exactly the moment when I'm thinking how pleased I am with how a piece of work is coming along that I notice a mistake.

Someone once told me to look every row, but I never do

That's a beautiful square @CrochetBug. I hope you're doing ok.

crazyjinglist · 31/01/2022 07:17

That is lovely, @CrochetBug. So sorry about your friend - and what a cool name!

alloutofcareunits · 31/01/2022 07:41

@sophs29 thank you! I was worried about picking up for the front button bands with their being so many colour changes so I've decided to do it now before the sleeves, if it looked bad I'd just not waste time on the sleeves. However, it looks fine so now I have to do the sleeves and finish it 😂

InTheNightWeWillWish · 31/01/2022 19:58

Crochetbug that square is lovely. I think the cushion is a nice idea and lovely to give him a hug when you’re missing him ❤️

NiceCardigan · 31/01/2022 20:58

That square is beautiful Crochetbug a cushion that can be hugged is a lovely idea.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 01/02/2022 13:36

@sophs29 actually I've been quite enjoying the magazines. Although most of the projects are either beyond my skill level, or not anything I would ever want to make, there have been a few things I think I could and would want to tackle. Plus, there are lots of ideas - so, perhaps that cardigan is a bit too complicated, but that gives me an idea on what I'd be looking for for something similar - if you know what I mean. And that gives me impetus to carry on, and not get discouraged/distracted.

sophs29 · 01/02/2022 14:17

@alloutofcareunits looking forward to seeing it finished!

@QuantumWeatherButterfly yes that makes sense! I have a whole bunch of sewing magazines and they're good for inspiration!

@CrochetBug that is lovely!! A cushion sounds great!

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 01/02/2022 15:34

@sophs29 I'm very picky about what I would want to make in the first place. I'm trying really hard to declutter the house (not that you would be able to tell that by looking !), and while I enjoy craft for the fun of the process, really don't want to make anything that won't be used. One of the things I like about crochet so far is there does seem to be quite a lot of choice of genuinely useful stuff that is beginner friendly.
