@lazylinguist well done! That's beautiful!

lazylinguist · 31/10/2021 07:56

Thanks everyone! Here's a picture of it on. Excuse the pyjamas Grin

It looks fantastic, perfect fit.

Oysterbabe · 31/10/2021 07:59

I just have ears, tail and a bow left to make and then I can assemble.

Thanks! That looks fantastic, @Oysterbabe - you're clearly a natural! It's going to look very cute when assembled!

I think the pyjamas really finish the look lazy Grin looks really good, don’t think you needed to be worried about size though.

Well done oysterbabe that looks great. I love doing the body parts of amigurumi I just don’t like sewing up after Grin what’s next after this?

Oysterbabe · 31/10/2021 09:01

I bought this book and all the patterns are so cute. I think I'm going to make a load of food for the kids' play kitchen, starting with a bowl of strawberries as I have the right colour wool for that.

No, it fits better than I expected InTheNight!
I have spent ages looking at patterns for a hat for dh and wrist warmers for me on Ravelry- now have to trawl through all the ones I've favourited and actually choose!

It's a good fit lazy, is it comfy to wear?

I managed the doors to my little house last night, they're tiny - about 1"x1/2". I had to omit the turning chains though on the sc rows, they were making them lean // that way 🤷‍♀️. Roof next, I had a go last night but couldn't get my stitch count quite right.

We were going to Lidl today for pack up bits, while the girls dad hid some sweets for a scavenger hunt (dd2 doesn't want to go out this year). It's currently tipping it down out there 🙄🌧 so I doubt they'll want to go. Maybe I should stick the girls in the downstairs loo while we hide sweets and clues 🤔

I don't particularly fancy going on the ghost walk in town that we were going to, in rain like this, either.

sophs29 · 31/10/2021 10:56

Excellent fit @lazylinguist and great finishing it just in time for your birthday..today? If I'm right then Happy Birthday! 🎉

CrochetBug · 31/10/2021 12:16

Happy birthday @lazylinguist. The jumper looks great on you.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 31/10/2021 12:48

Happy Birthday lazy! Your jumper looks great on!

That is very cute Oysterbabe!

Can I run a sanity check by everyone? I'm knitting from the bottom up, have joined the sleeves to the body and the pattern says the start of round is on the right shoulder. But then it says to knit across the front. That's not right is it? It should be the left shoulder is beginning of round... I always read patterns like right shoulder as if I'm wearing it.

MerylSqueak · 31/10/2021 15:31

I'm sorry I don't know @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack. I've been too terrified to knit a jumper yet.

Happy birthday@lazylinguist. Jumper looks great, and a great fit. That's my major worry with jumpers actually but you've got it right.

Looks good @Oysterbabe. I had knitted food for my DC's when they were tiny. Much nice than the plastic stuff. I had a whole knitted roast dinner and a birthday cake that split into slices. Not knitted by me as I hadn't picked it up again then. Pity. Would have been really fun.

@InTheNightWeWillWish I think I did all your ravelry hunting last night. Barely a stitch knitted!

@lucysmam I would love to do something like that for Christmas but can't find anything similar.

Has anybody else done any Christmas decoration knits? I've done gnomes before but now they just live with us. they're called Nils an Bjorn.

I’ve done quite a few Christmas decoration knits @MerylSqueak I have a snowman, two elves, the 12 days of Christmas and a woolly nativity!

Happy Birthday @lazylinguist the jumper looks great.

That does sound right @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack I’ve been holding up half knitted bits of jumper to check.

The food looks cute @Oysterbabe

NiceCardigan · 31/10/2021 16:07

www.etsy.com/listing/746509506/nativity-set-vintage-knitting-pattern this is the woolly nativity the pattern was in a magazine. I fancy a village @lucysmam but it be better if it was knitted as I’m better at knitting than crochet.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 31/10/2021 17:02

oysterbabe I’ve seen that book before and wanted to buy it but I’ve nowhere for the finished items to end up. The play kitchen sounds like a great idea though.

meryl Grin that’s why you have to make a public vow not to get sucked into Ravelry!

I’ve stuck to my vow but not managed to get as far as I wanted with working down my list. I did unknot the tangled mess of yarn and make the Pom Pom to finish the hat. I’ve done most of the Christmas card appliqués too. I’d like to ideally do a few more and most of them need blocking which I’m hoping to do this evening as I’d like to give them to the care home at the end of the week.

sophs29 · 31/10/2021 19:03

@Oysterbabe that book looks so cute! I've always wanted to make my DCs play food but have never got round to it! I might have to look up the book!

We've finished packing apart from last minute bits in the morning and it's also my DS's 1st birthday tomorrow so pretty excited for tomorrow to come ☺️

lucysmam · 31/10/2021 20:04

I haven't seen a knitted village @NiceCardigan but will keep my eyes open for one.

I'm trying to do the roof for the cottage but it's not quite working out 🤔 Everything's counting right but the chain at the left that I've circled seems to dip more than the other three and it's leaning again Confused. I might try again in daylight tomorrow I think!

Awww thanks for the birthday wishes everyone!
Flavia - yes I'm sure you're right. If you're knitting across the front, you should be starting at the left shoulder (as you wear it).

I've spent an actually ludicrous amount of today looking at and deciding on patterns. And then foraging for the right combinations of needles, knitting a couple of swatches and winding skeins into balls - I hate that Grin. Do any of you have a ball winder? I do mine sitting straddled on the floor with the skein around my feet Grin.

lucysmam · 31/10/2021 22:03

Ah lazy I'm so sorry, I managed to miss that today was your birthday Blush. I do hope you've had a lovely day, happy birthday Cake

InTheNightWeWillWish · 31/10/2021 22:28

Happy birthday lazy, hope you had a lovely day.

I really want a ball winder but I don’t know if it’s just because I think I should have one. It sort of falls into the same category as the yarn bowl. Obviously they are lovely but do I actually need one? Is it really having to ball and unwind my yarn that is slowing me down? Or is it more likely that I’m too easily distracted? Hmm

lazylinguist · 01/11/2021 07:13

I've got a yarn bowl and I don't actually use it that much, InTheNight!

OP posts:
lazylinguist · 01/11/2021 07:29

Right, so I've chosen my next projects, 3 of them! This hat for dh, these easy chunky wrist warmers for me (using some gorgeously soft Debbie Bliss Lhasa yarn I picked up as a total bargain a while back). Oh and some socks for ds (usual pattern from my trusty book!).

OP posts:
lucysmam · 01/11/2021 09:12

I have a winder InTheNight. Very handy for caking the balls so they don't roll about but I'm too lazy to get it out much, even though it only lives in my bag at the side of my chair 🤷‍♀️

Dd1 was actually eyeing up my disorganised stash the other day & commented that if I cake it all, it'd be much neater and easier to store. I wasn't sure whether it'd end up stretched & ruined though so have left it alone in it's box and bags.

I like the wristwarmers lazy. I might look for a different pattern for some more for myself, that uses a hook size I have.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 01/11/2021 11:05

I've a ball winder, I use skeins a lot and DH made me a Amish style swift to use with it and I couldn't do without them. I'd say the swift is more useful for skeins if I had to choose between them though.

My DM has a silver reed ball winder, it's much sturdier and better quality than my knit pro one which is a bit flimsy and squeaky. This one www.sewingmachinesales.co.uk/knitting-machine/silver-wool-winder.html

I'm not convinced mine is going to last long term and I'll be getting that if mine breaks..
