I've worked out why my roof parts are leaning I think. The pattern says sc in the 2nd ch of turning ch4 - I've been counting up to the 2nd ch but it should be the 3rd which would be the top of dc the first 3 ch is standing in for Only taken 3 goes to work it out 🙄

Ah well, I can hopefully whizz through them after school now 🤞

Oysterbabe · 01/11/2021 12:44

She's all done and I'm so disproportionately proud Grin
I'm never been a crafty person so I'm surprised that I managed to make something not shit. I'm very keen to crack straight on with something else but DH is already moaning that I don't talk to him in the evenings anymore HmmGrin

Wow @Oysterbabe that’s pretty impressive for a first project!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 01/11/2021 13:05

Oh that's so cute Oysterbabe! My first crochet objects were evil eyed monstrosities still are 😂 You've got a talent! You could always show your DH the latest episode of fruity knitting on YouTube with the life sized crochet animals and tell him to count his blessings Wink

CrochetBug · 01/11/2021 14:24

Well done @Oysterbabe she looks so cute!

I've got a wool winder thing that someone gave me. But i think it's more for holding a ball of yarn as you work from it rather than winding a skein into a ball. As i usually pull from the middle anyway I don't have the "ball rolling all over the place" problem. And i don't generally buy skeins as they tend to be the more expensive brands and I'm poor Grin. I do have a few random ones though that used to come in my subscription box.

I'm officially half way through DS1s hat. I wasn't going to share a photo until I was finished but I'm bursting to show it off. It's simple, but really fiddly at the same time. It's also a totally different shade of green IRL and much fluffier than the picture shows.

Ooo that's gorgeous CrochetBug I love the colour.

NiceCardigan · 01/11/2021 16:19

Great hat @CrochetBug it does look lovely and soft.

CrochetBug · 01/11/2021 16:39

Thanks. Its far more green than it looks I'm the photo. I think it's alpaca yarn of some kind, Rowan maybe. My mum bought it a bazillion years ago when DS1 was small and then never made anything with it. I 'inherited' it recently when she had her destash Grin
Annoyingly it's going to use 2 balls to make the hat and I'll have 1 left which won't be enough to make the matching mittens he wanted. And I'm not buying more because if its even still available it will be a different dye lot and it was expensive.

lucysmam · 01/11/2021 16:58

Aw @Oysterbabe she's lovely. Very impressive for your first project. Mine was rather holey 🤣

@CrochetBug that pattern's lush 🥰 I'd be itching to show it off too!

I've done the roof panels...very sloooooooowly 🤣 I've put markers in where the picots should be so I might stitch it together tonight. Or maybe start the church & do that tomorrow 🤔

lazylinguist · 01/11/2021 18:29

I can't believe that's your first project @Oysterbabe Shock. Cute and very very neatly done!
@CrochetBug - that hat is stunning!
And @lucysmam you must have the patience of a saint - that looks so fiddly!

I haven't started any of my new projects yet, as I'm waiting for needles to arrive from Amazon (however many I have, I never seem to have the right ones!).

In other news, dh has an (initially online) interview for that job in Surrey. And it's looking like my DM has not ovarian cancer but colon cancer Sad. Scan tomorrow.

Oh no lazy sending good vibes to you and your mum Flowers

Well done to your DH for getting through the first sift.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 01/11/2021 19:20

Oh lazy, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope the scan goes ok tomorrow.

Oysterbabe · 01/11/2021 19:21

What a worry lazy
I hope that the scan provides answers and a plan. The waiting is so hard. Flowers

CrochetBug · 01/11/2021 19:27

Fingers crossed for your DH @lazylinguist and sending positive vibes to your mum.

@lucysmam I'm almost tempted to make a village myself. I don't want a crochet village, but I can tell its going to look so sweet! Do you have to stiffen the bits with glue/starch?

lucysmam · 01/11/2021 19:33

Oh no lazy, what a worry Thanks I hope your mum's scan goes well tomorrow. And good luck to your DH as well 🤞

@CrochetBug yes, the pattern says either starch or 50/50 water and pva. I'm going to try the pva since I have a massive 5L bottle of the stuff in the house already.

The pattern was something daft like 76p on Etsy & I ordered some cheap thread from ebay in case it all went wrong. So far, it's going well!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 01/11/2021 20:58

What a mix of emotions you must have going on lazy. Fingers crossed for the scan for your DM. Good luck to your DH for his interview.

lazylinguist · 01/11/2021 21:24

Thanks everyone. My mum sounded weirdly upbeat this evening, even though she's expecting bad news. I think she's just relieved to be finally getting towards a diagnosis (by a private specialist) after months of faffing about by GPs.

@InTheNightWeWillWish did you say you were making converse baby bootees? My mum has asked for a pair (she isn't having a baby!) But I can't find any decent patterns. I could make my own but have no idea on sizing! And I'm lazy.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 02/11/2021 14:07

crochetbug I am attempting to make some converse booties. I currently have the sole of one bootie! This is the pattern I’m following www.etsy.com/uk/listing/835544368/baby-booties-crochet-pattern-baby-shoe-0. There’s a few bits in the pattern where it’s taken me a little while to work out what they mean but I think I’m generally getting it but like I said, only got one heel so far. I’ve got to the point of needing to do some stitching, so it could be my dislike of sewing as the reason I’ve stalled or because it just takes me a few attempts to get the pattern right.

lazylinguist · 02/11/2021 21:57

I'm itching to start at least one of my new projects, but too busy! One of the circular needles I need for the hat has arrived but not the other. And I've still got 3 skeins to wind into balls!

NiceCardigan · 02/11/2021 22:33

They are so cute @InTheNightWeWillWish!

CrochetBug · 02/11/2021 22:36

Thanks @InTheNightWeWillWish. I'll have a look at that one too.

Squishy delivery alert!!! It's sooooo soft. Started my socks again, gauge swatch came up as needing to use a 2mm hook. By the time I'd finished the toe section it was big enough to cover 2 toes. So I went back up to a 3mm like the pattern said. By the end of the toe section it was 2 inches 2 wide. So I thought f it and am making the size that's 2 sizes smaller than my foot measures as. Hmm

I've just started working on a mermaid. She's going to have a purple tail and violet hair. The pattern is really cute and if it comes out as I hope I think it will be lovely. My son is going to a 3rd Birthday party for one of his nursery friends on Sunday and the theme is under the sea. I mentioned to DH that I could give the mermaid as a gift. His reaction was like
Really?! Hmm
Is a handmade mermaid an OK gift for a little girl's 3rd birthday present or is it a bit lame?! I haven't gifted anything homemade before. For a nursery friend I'd normally only spend a few quid on something like a craft kit or puzzle. Obviously I wouldn't give it to her if it doesn't come out well.

lucysmam · 03/11/2021 09:48

I think it'd be a sweet gift Oysterbabe, just be careful to make sure any embroidered bits/eyes are secure. My youngest's almost 12 but she would still love it; she claims the vast majority of things I make!

My socks are toasty. I thought they might be too warm in bed but my feet were nice & warm last night (I sleep dreadfully with cold feet). I still haven't made dd1's - I've asked a few times if she wants to choose yarn but she's said not yet 🤷‍♀️

I sat down this morning to sew in the ends on the first cottage for my thread village but have ended up starting to frog a project instead...the ends are much easier to find in daylight & on lighter yarn than the gloves I tried, and failed, to frog a few weeks ago 🐸
