I live in the east of England and so hill climbing isn’t going to happen unless I drive for several hours and then I’ll get stuck behind a tractor! I suppose I could try climbing a tractor - that’s about the highest thing round here!

Ha - InTheNight that's the total opposite of where I am. It's hard to find anywhere flat here at all. My village is on a hill and I can see lots of mountains from my house! We all have bikes but we've hardly used them in the 7 years we've been here because it's such hard work!

Dh's hat is coming along ok. My 1x1 rib isn't looking very neat for some reason, but I really like the colour scheme and the beginnings of the Fairisle bit.

sophs I’m taking my rainbow random stripe blanket.

lazy having grown up a bit further south than where you are but still only 40 mins away, I really miss the hills and mountains down here. I really like the colours of your DH’s hat. My DH is a bit boring and wouldn’t even entertain the idea of an orange in his hat. His scarf was just a plain navy. Although I’m going to force him out of his comfort zone when I get the crochet animal slipper book Grin

lazylinguist · 18/11/2021 21:10

Grin Excellent- I'm sure he'll love some animal slippers! My dh is mostly not a flamboyant dresser, but he's not averse to being a bit colourful - he keeps his students entertained with some of his loud ties! He actually chose the hat pattern out of a bunch I showed him, and picked the colour combo from the yarns I had.

I'm really enjoying doing a smaller, simpler WIP but with some interest due to the Fairisle bit. If it turns out well I might make myself one! They are 100g balls of wool, so I probably have enough make myself one with the same colours but in a different configuration. His and hers (semi-) matching hats - how lame! Grin

DH will wear colours but it tends to be solid colours or if it’s stripes it’s on a rugby top. For quite a few years, he had ‘weekend socks’, which would be patterned socks versus black socks with a coloured toe and heel. He used to have to wear a suit and tie everyday to work, his dad (which is where he’s got this style from) bought him his first lot of ties and he had the stereotypical middle aged ties - the yellow one with the white diamonds, the navy and white striped one. It took a lot of prodding to get DH to buy a solid purple tie. I’ve worked out the secret though now, I just buy it or make it, he tries it on and loves it. I don’t say ‘I told you so’ and he pretends he’s open to change Grin

Matching hats sounds great. You’ll have to make some for the kids though and possibly look at something for the dog too. Then you can all pose for a photo and you’ve got your ‘holiday card’ like they do in the US. Bonus points if you climb one of the nearby mountains as it’s snowing.

Oysterbabe · 18/11/2021 22:29

I love those colours. Maybe I'll make my DH something but he is a fusspot and very particular about things.

I finished my bear this evening. I think he's quite sweet. He's going to be a Christmas gift for my friend's baby.

I'm behind so I need to catch up.

Thank you muchly for the kind cable cardy words. Annoyingly is still in my living room. I need to just stop procrastinating and get it to the girl!!

@crochetbug did the lady like the cardigan.? I remember you making it, your first foray into tunisian crochet I think? I got a couple more hooks ill have to dabble Again.

I've made my mum a cowl with SWAROVSKI buttons. There's two pictures to try and show the colour. The finished object is the one where the green looks darker. The buttons made me sweat, total nightmare logistics wise. Too heavy.

I used the most stunning soft super chunky wool. Merino superwash. Giving it to mum tomorrow. She picked the pattern but hasn't seen the buttons. I know she will adore. It cost me a lot to make for buttons, wool and stupidly a pattern (it's all bloody back loop only grrrr no pattern was needed)

Oo obligatory video of the buttons imgur.com/a/p3uHoA5

Having bother with pics. Ill put the brighter pic up next

More realistic color. I can't wait to get it out of the house before I decide to redo it or something stupid. The buttons weren't secured in this picture.

Gorgeous colours @lazylinguist I love the idea of a matching-ish hat! My DP is very fussy, he wouldn't entertain anything handmade 😒 how rude haha!

@Oysterbabe that teddy is adorable! You always manage to get such expression in the faces! Amazing considering you're a beginner!

@Myshitisreal wow! That is beautiful! Such a special gift! Let us know what she thinks ☺️

@InTheNightWeWillWish thinking of you today and sending calm, relaxing vibes your way!

lucysmam · 19/11/2021 07:44

I hope all goes smoothly for you today @InTheNightWeWillWish & you're soon snuggling your baby x

lazylinguist · 19/11/2021 07:54

Sending massive positive vibes to you InTheNight! Funny you should mention making something for ddog - I quite fancy making him a knitted coat. He already has one a friend made, but it doesn't fit that well. It's not for outside, as it would get muddy and be no good in the rain, but gets really cold at home after wet walks (he's very lean, short-haired and a wuss!)

@Myshitisreal - that is a lovely cowl! I'm sure your mum will love it.

Best of luck for today InTheNight!

I absolutely love that colour scheme lazy!

That's lovely Oysterbabe! He has such a nice expression!

Myshitisreal wow, they are super sparkly! That's a lovely gift, your mum will be over the moon Smile

I got the wool for my FIL's hat, I didn't realise when he said I'd like one of those hats like last year he meant literally the same hat and the same colour. I'm wondering what he did to last years Grin I winged the pattern but I'm very pleased with past me because I wrote down what needles I used and how many stiches I cast on...

CrochetBug · 19/11/2021 10:04

Good luck @InTheNightWeWillWish

InTheNightWeWillWish · 19/11/2021 11:04

Thanks for the well wishes everyone ☺️

oysterbabe that bear is gorgeous. You’ve picked up amigurumi really quickly and your stitching is great. Any time I embroider eyes they look a bit sinister.

lazy not a knitted one but I’ve heard good things about the ruff and tumble drying coats. Then you knit him a house coat after that and he can just parade around the house in it.

MerylSqueak · 19/11/2021 20:24

Best wishes @InTheNightWeWillWish.

Oysterbabe · 20/11/2021 07:06

Thanks for all the bear love.

I hope you're getting on OK InTheNight

I've started my next project and feel like a neurosurgeon 😅 It's a bit fiddly starting with a 4 stitch magic circle.

CrochetBug · 20/11/2021 09:22

@Myshitisreal those buttons are heavenly. The lady hasn't left any feedback although the parcel is showing as delivered. I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt and assuming it's a Christmas present!

I'm at my brothers looking after the niblings for the weekend. I bought 2 WIPs, spare yarn and hooks and planned to finish them and make another pair of gloves with a different pattern on. I forgot my notepad with the pattern notes in and the yarn to finish my other WIP. Hmm
So I'm making random pattern swatches Grin

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 20/11/2021 10:07

Morning all Smile

Oops CrochetBug, enjoy your babysitting and swatching though!

I'm planning to do some dyeing today. I've spun a 50g 2ply which I think is good enough to give to someone as a gift but the fibre was white. Fingers crossed I can find my dye records before then as they've gone wandering Smile

lazylinguist · 20/11/2021 10:19

Morning all! I did a bit of morning knitting before anyone else was up - my favourite time to knit! I was going to do Parkrun this morning, but have woken feeling a bit dodgy - I think last night's curry didn't agree with me, and pounding through 5k definitely wouldn't have helped!

Would love to see before and after pics of your 2ply, Flavia! I'm so much looking forward to my second spinning course in January, but I'm worried I'll have forgotten everything and that I should have gone for a second beginners' course after all!

Ooh, hope you're feeling better now lazy Here you go, fluff to stuff pic attached, it looks mustard in that pic but it's actually greeny gold. I was aiming for a deeper green so I may put it in for another go but will see when it's dry.

Just catching up on everything - lovely pics Flavia

Today would be a good day for knitting but I’ve been having problems with my left hand so I need to rest it. Not sure what’s wrong just some sort of random inflammation that I get sometimes.

lazylinguist · 20/11/2021 16:55

That looks fab Flavia - I can't imagine I'll be spinning anything that consistent for a loooong time!
Sorry about your hand @NiceCardigan. Hope it's better soon.

I hope InTheNight is getting on ok! I imagine she's a bit busy to update us Grin.

lazylinguist · 20/11/2021 16:57

I'm having one of those days where I'm supposed to be doing useful stuff around the house, but procrastinate and get almost nothing done, then berate myself because if I was going to get nothing done I might as well have spent my day knitting Hmm. I've recovered from my post-curry dodginess though, thankfully.

OP posts:
CrochetBug · 20/11/2021 17:11

I've been obsessively checking this thread all day in the hope of baby pics Grin

In between board games, making a never ending stream of snacks, going to the park and having my nails painted that is. Grin

Also got feedback on my cardigan. I'm rather overwhelmed!

lucysmam · 20/11/2021 17:25

@CrochetBug that's excellent feedback, you must be wandering round with a grin like the Cheshire Cat - I would!

I've checked a couple of times too. I miss the girls being tiny; although I'm rather enjoying laughing with dd1 until she's worried she's going to wee from laughing so much, too (she's vanished to the loo now Xmas Grin ).

No crochet today - I've done some stuff for my Guides' trip to the Christmas market in a couple of weeks (ironed neckers, decided we need new & small 1st aid kits, emergency travel sickness prep [dd2] ). Washing & school ironing, a trip to Asda and filling my Christmas Tesco order, & it's almost tea time!

Maybe later...
