Nice pumpkin!

I often have to drive to Carmarthen which is notorious for its roundabouts. I never get lost on the in but always, always on the way out, to the extent that I now recognise one of the wrong routes and have worked out how to put myself right from there, so always go that way now

It did make me feel better when I asked a resident to tell me how to do it and they say for about 5 minutes before saying, 'No. I really can't!'

lazylinguist · 08/10/2021 07:48

Thank you @MerylSqueak - at least it's not just me!

I've given up on the green jumper today - the fl/bl hdc repeat was frying my brain & I was spending as much time frogging silly mistakes as I was actually stitching.

That leaves me with 6x 100g balls of Deramores Green Tea dk, if anyone has any jumper suggestions for it? Something challenging but maybe a longer repeat?

Enjoy your weekend @lazylinguist; I'm looking forward to seeing what you get up to!

lazylinguist · 08/10/2021 21:28

Thanks! Just packing now...

lucysmam I have this one in my ravelry queue - www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mama-ester-sweater - but I’ve not made it yet. It does have some fpdc/bpdc to do the ribbing but only a couple of repeats?

Not purchased it yet so not looked at the pattern but I also saw this pattern earlier - www.etsy.com/uk/listing/561445360/simple-sweater-crochet-pattern?ref=shop_home_recs_11&bes=1 - it doesn’t look like it has fpdc and the repeat would be short enough to keep your attention but easy enough to get in a rhythm with it.

lazy good luck with the sat nav for getting there and hope you have a lovely weekend.

eitak22 · 08/10/2021 23:06

@lazylinguist your jumper is looking awesome. Love the colours together.

I've not had much time for crochet atm as work has been super busy which sucks. Hoping to make more progress on amigurumi monkey this weekend.

Apologies in advance to anyone who can’t deal with Christmas before December but with a newborn due early December and family all living several hours from us, I need to be early this year.

I’m thinking about my Christmas list (this isn’t a demand list but both our mums like to buy us little stocking fillers, they prefer to get us something we will use and before taking up crochet I was quite hard to buy for - the default was chocolate and when I’m on a diet that flies out the window too). I really liked that slipper book that was posted on here a few threads ago. I can’t remember which poster it was but I don’t think they’re still on this thread Sad Did anyone note down the name of the book and could share with me? It has funky crochet slippers in adults and children’s sizes.

Also has anyone used light up crochet hooks? I’m thinking they might be a useful addition to allow me to crochet in the car (as a passenger, obviously) and to make it easier when using dark wool. Does anyone have any recommendations?

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 09/10/2021 08:06

It was @thenameIsweasley InTheNight and it was "Crochet Animal Slippers" by Ira Rott. It looked absolutely amazing! I've already bought some Christmas stuff so whoever can't face it doesn't include me [ssmile]

Hope lazy is heading in the right direction about now Grin have a lovely time!

I like your pumpkin lucysmam I have a garland pattern it's making me want to hunt out Smile

Thenameisweasley · 09/10/2021 08:09

Highly recommended @InTheNightWeWillWish

If you want to pm me I can send a few pics of it over to give you an idea of it

eitak22 · 09/10/2021 08:50

@InTheNightWeWillWish I have a light up hook which I got in a stocking and love it for crocheting with dark yarn as you can see what you're doing.

Other things I've been given include pretty stitch markers, a nice notebook for recording projects and a thread jolder (use these for big projects to hold different coloured yarn so doesn't matter if I lose the label.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 09/10/2021 08:57

Oh, I saw this in Sosterene Green the other week sostrenegrene.com/en-gb/products/hobby/ribbon-organiser-box-p-937e49c1

I was thinking it would be very handy for keeping multiple colours separate for intarsia but it might be handy for crochet too and it's a very cheap stocking filler!

lucysmam · 09/10/2021 09:01

Ooh, a garland sounds good Flavia, while I'm pondering what to make with this green. I'm making one for dd2 now but might have a look and see what I can find on t'interweb later on.

I like the first one @InTheNightWeWillWish, it's pretty. I'll make a note of it while I'm looking. I think alternating fl/bl for rows and rows maybe wasn't my best idea for an evening project 🤷‍♀️ even dd1 commented that I was probably struggling because I'm tired 🤣

I have a light up hook; was less than £8 iirc on ebay. It definitely makes the stitches easier to see on darker projects but doesn't light up the surrounding area iyswim. And, it squeaks after a while!

We're going for a wander at a very local craft fair today. The ad's didn't actually say what kinds of stalls they'll have so hopefully it'll be good 🤞

InTheNightWeWillWish · 09/10/2021 12:50

flavia not only are you a knitting and spinning genius but you’ve got an amazing memory!

thenameiswaesley sorry I forgot you! Thank you, I should have noted it down at the time but I’ve put it on my Christmas list now. I’ll wait until Christmas to tell DH that he should expect animal slippers for his birthday (in March) Grin

eitak I’ve got a yarn holder in my favourites on Etsy and the shop also has several very pretty crochet hooks.

lucysmam I really like the first one but I don’t actually have the yarn in for that one yet Shock I find with fpdc/bpdc repetition, it’s the first two rounds of it that take some concentration then the stitches start to stand out quite clearly and it’s easy to tell if you’ve gone wrong.

Thenameisweasley · 09/10/2021 13:02

@InTheNightWeWillWish don't worry! It was a while ago. You'll love it, I want to make them all!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 09/10/2021 13:20

My granny used to say if you got a name for getting up early you could lie in all day and I definitely fall into this category InTheNight much like my knitting and spinning I cheat as much as possible and I went back and found it on the thread Wink

sophs29 · 09/10/2021 13:35

I haven't caught up with the whole thread but I've also asked for that book for Christmas @InTheNightWeWillWish haha @Thenameisweasley you may have started something Grin

InTheNightWeWillWish · 09/10/2021 14:04

flavia I’m clearly too lazy to go through the thread, so thank you. I also thought it was an older thread. In searching Amazon to get a link for my Christmas link, I’ve now been recommended crocheted animal hats. It wouldn’t be overkill to have animal slippers and an animal hat, would it? Hmm Grin DH might wear animal slippers in the home but I don’t know if I can convince him to wear a husky hat.

Thenameisweasley · 09/10/2021 14:22

@sophs29 I'm not even a little sorry to be honest

lazylinguist · 09/10/2021 16:54

Hello from drizzly Ennerdale Bridge! I did head the right way, Flavia, but was briefly both stumped and panicked by an unexpected road closure. Between me and Mrs Google Maps we found a detour though .

After an early start (got up at 6) and a busy day's washing fleece, carding and spinning, I am pretty knackered and lounging on my bed at the Fox and Hounds, contemplating doing a little knitting and looking forward to a pub dinner. Tomorrow more spinning, plus learning how to ply and trying spinning some different fibres! I'll post a photo from the studio tomorrow as it looks out over Ennerdale lake (too misty and drizzly for photos today!)

Wow, you've been busy lazy, sounds brilliant! And glad you and Google aced the navigation 😄

I don't know InTheNight a husky hat sounds pretty good to me 😂 my DH likes the most boring hats in existence, mostly grey and occasionally I can sneak in maroon but that's about the height of it 🙄

DS1 and I did Halloween crafts today. I made him a pretty cute crochet spider but it's tucked up in bed for the night with so no photos Smile I just need to get DS2 asleep and then I can get on with my own projects...

lazylinguist · 09/10/2021 20:25

Oh lord - I'm lying on my bed in my room in the pub and researching spinning wheels... You did say it was addictive, Flavia... I went from finding the spinning quite tense and difficult this morning to finding it kind of rhythmic, contemplative and relaxing by the end of the afternoon. Had really nice chats with the teacher and my one fellow student too. She and I both got the course for our birthdays this month!

OP posts:
lazylinguist · 09/10/2021 20:29

So if, ahem... just for the sake of argument, I were to buy a spinning wheel- do you know much about the different brands and models, *Flavia? I like the look of an Ashford Kiwi or Traveller. Definitely prefer the castle style ones and two treadles (tried both kinds today and found the double treadle much better). Not that I'm actually planning to buy one... obvs...

OP posts:
MerylSqueak · 09/10/2021 20:55

It's plain that nothing could be further from your mind...

lazylinguist · 09/10/2021 21:23

Nope. Absolutely not. In other, entirely unrelated news, dh has decided to get rid of both his aquariums. Making a nice space for a spinning wheel yarn storage.

OP posts:
InTheNightWeWillWish · 09/10/2021 21:52

Well, lazy I hope your DH didn’t have designs of his own for that space Grin

flavia my DH is the same. He asked for a scarf. A navy scarf in single crochet 😴 It’s fine though I just inject some fun as part of his Christmas presents and then he’s duty bound to wear them Grin
