sophs I really like the cotton too! I'd never knitted or crocheted with cotton yarn before and I thought I might not like the feel of it, but actually it's really nice (well this yarn is, anyway).

I've done the tassels this morning, which took me ages considering that there are only three of them Blush. I need to weave in the ends, and I can't find any of my 3 darning needles since I had a craft sort out a month ago Angry. Popping into town anyway this morning, so it will be a good excuse to go into the yarn/craft shop... No buying yarn though - I have too much!

morning all.
it was my birthday yesterday so today I bought a few skeins of gorgeous sock yarn from Felt Fusion.
these two are custom dyes (the others are ready to buy) and I can't wait!

lazy that looks brilliant!

CrochetBug I'm glad it's not just me! Marking first and last stitch seems a good idea; I'm going to try without at some point today & see how that goes first though.

@sophs29 neither slipstitches or chains are counted - just slipstitches confuse my brain for some reason 🤷‍♀️

@cookiemonster5 my yarn honestly doesn't take up much space - the bags are the ones Poundland sell behind the tills, they're slid under my bed with an awful lot of other stuff in what is usually my Christmas stash space.

@TheQueenofTheNight how about a search on fb Marketplace, see if anyone's selling there? Or if you have a local yarn/sewing shop, they might be able to help direct you?

lucysmam · 24/08/2021 10:14

Oh! There was a whole other page after I posted!

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba the two on the left are amazing! Do you have a pattern in mind for them?

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 24/08/2021 10:24

not yet.
We are in the middle of moving kids & furniture around, culling books, sorting clothes & uniforms etc while DH is on holiday. He's gonna move his office into my craftroom (I don't actually craft there, it's just storage) too but I need to finish a lot of sewing first to clear space...it's quite hectic here, no braincells for knitting patterns atm😁

I fancy making some wrist & arm warmers though in a few months, I'll probably just make them up as I go along.

lucysmam · 24/08/2021 11:19

Ah, I'm mid sort out here too...although I've stalled this week 🤷‍♀️ I like wristwarmers. Do you remember the little taggy comforter you sent me for dd2, years ago? She uses it these days to cover "Dingly" to sleep (he's her absolute favourite stuffed animal but he's falling to bits so gets special treatment Grin )

givemebooks · 24/08/2021 11:40

givemebooks · 24/08/2021 12:07

This is the plan I have and the square i am starting now its the 11th doctor matt smith, my sons favourite! Bobbins at the ready!!

Happy birthday for yesterday @ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba those skeins are gorgeous!!

@givemebooks that square looks great! Did it work up quickly? I'd be so excited taking on a project like that! ☺️

My little yarn order came, so I have the cotton to finish DS's jacket and some other pretty ones to squish 😂☺️

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba - happy birthday for yesterday! That yarn is stunning Shock.

@givemebooks - that blanket is going to be amazing! The first panel looks great!

I bought some cute little coloured metallic KitPro Zing darning needles and wove in my ends, so here's the shawl complete with tassels. Bit too warm to wear it today and it doesn't go very well with my shirt!

Look fabulous!

ForCluckSake · 24/08/2021 16:02

Wow that shawl is something else it's beautiful!

Cookie monster am loving the minion definitely keep his eyes wonky gives him more charm.

I keep my wool in a big poundland bag too and have a small basket with the current projects am working on.

I undone a sofa throw I made a few weeks ago to redo in a larger stitch. It's nice to pick up if am fed up.

Are socks easy to make? For a beginner with no pattern experience am thinking they would make lovely gifts.

Here's a few pics, my basket lives next to the sofa I think I need a bigger basket.... Or just finish stuff. Am waiting on wool to finish most of it to be fair

Wow that shawl is something else it's beautiful!

Thank you Smile. It's actually a very easy pattern!

Crochet socks I can't comment on, @ForCluckSake, as I've never tried. Knitted socks take a bit of getting the hang of,in my experience, but once you've 'got it' it's fine!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 24/08/2021 18:04

thank you all!

MerylSqueak · 24/08/2021 19:53

Can anyone help me with a bit in my shawl pattern. I'm not quite sure which bit of the shawl I am doing. I have 241 stitches on the needles and the body if the shawl knitted. I'll be casting off when I have done this bit. The instructions are

Find and mark the centre stitch. Knit to marker. K7. Wrap and turn.

Next row K 15 w&t
Next row K to 3stitches after the wrapped stitch. W &t.

Repeat this row until all stitches have been worked.

What would you expect this to look like when done? Having done a few of these, I can't imagine the garter stitch that's appearing eventually reaching across the whole width of the shawl but it seems to be what the pattern suggests.

Thank you!

cookiemonster5 · 24/08/2021 20:07

Minion down! Repeat we have a minion down. Bob didn't like being swung around by his arm. Surgery is needed stat!

lucysmam · 24/08/2021 20:07

@ForCluckSake I'm still only on row 2 of the socks I picked, so I might not be the best to comment🙈🤣. I think just a plain & simple pair might be fairly straightforward; but I tend to jump into complicated stuff then internally swear at myself until it 'clicks' 🤷‍♀️

sophs29 · 24/08/2021 20:32

@lazylinguist the shawl looks great! The tassels really set it off!

@ForCluckSake wow I love the yarn you're using!
I found the socks fairly straightforward but I do have some experience with patterns, you could always find a basic free pattern to try first, that's what I did. The pattern I'm using now, it's taken my second paid so my third sock to actually click with the pattern and be doing what they instruct rather than just 'winging it' 😂 I think they're lovely gifts, however my mum asked if I could make some of her friends (pen pals basically) some socks but I said I would but I'd need to know their shoe size 😂 and it's a bit weird to just ask someone that 😂

Sorry @MerylSqueak I can't knit but hopefully someone can help!

This is another blanket I fancy but I'm not sure what yarn to use. Any suggestions on what to look for?

CrochetBug · 24/08/2021 21:18

That's a lovely blanket @cookiemonster5. If it were me I'd just go for a single colour in DK or Aran (I didn't see a suggested yarn weight on the pattern.)
I'm a budget yarn buyer and stylecraft or Hayfield bonus are my favourites. Although Scheepjes colour crafter is nice too.

I'm doing some Tunisian crochet this evening. Working on the first of 2 scarves for my nieces. They are very bright!

Hello everyone, long time lurker here Grin

I wondered if anyone can help find the name of the type of yarn in the picture that's been circled. It looks really thick and has a different coloured centre so when it's cut it looks almost like holes? I imagine it's some type of art yarn. I've seen many weavers use this in their designs and I'd like to get some for mine.

cookiemonster5 · 24/08/2021 21:25

@CrochetBug it suggested lion brand color made easy but it's discontinued. I want something nice and cozy and soft. Thought Aran might not be soft enough. Would DK be nice and cozy on a cold night?

lucysmam · 24/08/2021 21:32

@cookiemonster5 try putting the discontinued yarn into yarnsub and see what it comes up with. It should acknowledge that the suggestion is discontinued, but then make suggestions of it's own based on yarns that are (for example) same weight/fibre etc.

That said; I agree with CrochetBug that it'd be nice in a single colour aran. It'll be snug for winter.

Love the tassles lazy! I need tassles in my life!

I think I've cracked row two 🎉 I was putting my first fpdc a stitch too far to the right, so then the rest weren't falling in line 🙄

CrochetBug · 24/08/2021 21:34

Aran would be cozier than DK as its thicker, so it depends how cold you get. I prefer my dk blankets as I always run hot.
Stylecraft special aran is lovely and soft imo.
