Marie Claire Magazine free bag Crafts Challenge

Yesterday I bought Marie Claire Magazine and the free give away for the month is a canvas tote/shopping bag with the slogan "Plastic ain't my bag" the reverse side is blank and I thought it would make a great crafts challenge to decorate. I just used a fabric pen to decore mine a Willow Tree Bag on my blog, but its open to anything you can think to do with it. paint it, sew on buttons, fabric flowers what ever you can think to craft. obviously you need to buy the magazine if you don't already have it.

post your finished items here if you think its a good idea.

happy crafting

p.s. sorry the pictures on my blog aren't great, the downstairs light fuse went last night, i'll try and retake the pics soon.

Hiya

Just saw your post on the weekly challenge thread.
I'm up for having a go at this, even though I have never touched my fabric pens

I may also cheat slightly and use another bag but it was free with a magazine.
I would go and get a Marie Claire but its chucking it down here and I cant be bothered to wrap the kids up to go to the shop.

Whizzz · 18/11/2007 14:10

oo that's quite a nice size bag too. I find alot of the canvas shoppers are too big, too small or thin !

I like your design too Meridian
Hmmmmm a beady bag......

Nbg · 18/11/2007 14:19

Oooh a beady bag!

Good idea Whizzz.
I have loads of bugle beads I never use..........

Fubsy · 18/11/2007 14:44

OOh, I like this, can I have a go?

Meridian · 18/11/2007 16:09

nbg- any freebie bag will do and at least it makes it a useful object and not just something that sits in a pile before going into the bin or a charity shop.

whizzz- thank you and I love your latest jewlry (forgot to post it on the thread comp having internet issues )... would love to see a beady bag.. must take a better picture of mine later or tommrow...

fubsy- everyone is welcome! have a go and post a link when done. paint, draw, embrodier, sew, stencil whatever you you fancy!

got to do something with all the magazine freebies and this freebie is one of the more useful ones I've had recently.

Gingermonkey · 18/11/2007 17:03

I've got my bag! Now got to decide what to do.......

MerryAnnSinglemas · 18/11/2007 17:04

lovely Meridian !

Nbg · 19/11/2007 09:52

Well I had a good google last night for some images and found a lovely swirly pattern which I've extended and adapted slightly.

I drew it on the bag last night so if I get chance today I'm going to try and sew some gem chips onto it. Thats if I can find a needle thin enough.

Gingermonkey · 19/11/2007 10:18

Mine's done!!!! Last pic here

SoupDragon · 19/11/2007 10:19

Hopefully Waitrose will have a copy when I pop in later.

Meridian · 19/11/2007 11:34

lovely gingermonkey - and your black cat is fab !

3Ddonut · 19/11/2007 12:23

That's really lovely, I saw that mag yesterday in the shop and considered buying it for the free bag but then I was struck by the irony of giving away a 'plastic is not my bag' in a mag wrapped in plastic and full of rubbish leaflets!!!! So I didn't, but your bag is lovely!!!!!!

Meridian · 19/11/2007 16:09

apparently the packageing is all degadeable and envoromentally friendly. though still excessive.

Gingermonkey · 19/11/2007 20:18

thank you very much! I was rather amused by the packaging too, but I suppose they have to put it in something. I like the ad on the telly for comfort or persil or something - the extra concentrated one which is helping the environment by being in a small bottle and therefore you need less lorries on the road to transport it.....unless I buy it and pour half the bottle in at once thinking you need a big drawer full of liquid. Then you need twice as many lorries on the road. My clothes smelled lovely though, and were very soft, lol!
(I know, I know - if I was really environmentally friendly I'd buy those ball things and do away with washing powder and stuff)

Nbg · 20/11/2007 12:17

Got the balls GM, they are useless!

Meridian · 21/11/2007 10:02

anyone else decorated a bag?

OP posts:
Gingermonkey · 21/11/2007 12:07

Nbg, phew, I'll save my money then! Have you done your bag yet? Come on, people!

SoupDragon · 21/11/2007 12:22

I have a bag... is that the same as decorating one?

Gingermonkey · 21/11/2007 15:05

no, you lazy dragon - get decorating it!

Meridian · 22/11/2007 10:33

come on ladies get those bags decorated!
