@bookshark this video has a little trick that you can treble up wool using one ball. It's very quick and easy.. Interesting part is 45 seconds in

3 strands is possible on a 5mm hook. I used a6mm hook recently with this method to make a cat bed but as long as you can comfortably crochet and it's a tension your happy with, I wouldn't worry

lucysmam · 14/03/2021 20:36

I decided to frog the cardi & go for the next size up. I'll need to order another two balls of the cream aran when I decide which item to make myself.

I quite fancy a dusty pink but am stuck between the three pictured...

The dream catcher shrug is next on my to do list. In blue for my friend.
I the lindy sweater, but it would look awful on me Grin

lucysmam · 14/03/2021 20:44

I think I'd make the bottom section a little longer if I go for that one maybe. The shrug would be better for summer though 🤷‍♀️ I have time to decide - I'm waiting on a refund for a birthday gift that never arrived to make up the money from the girls to get to the free delivery amount Grin

BookShark · 14/03/2021 21:03

@Myshitisreal thanks for that - looks perfectly doable so I'll give it a go. I tend to have quite tight tension anyway, so maybe I'll get away with the 5mm hook - certainly worth a try!

We’re still decorating the living room. Today DH painted the radiator and pipes, which means that the heating can’t be switched on until about midday tomorrow! So I’ve got my CAL blanket spread on top of the duvet to provide that little extra bit of warmth but even with my massive CAL, I’m getting a bit cold!

Myshitisreal · 14/03/2021 23:31

@bookshark is a great wee tip, once you get used to doing it you can make the length really long, it's so handy. Good luck 🤞

petridishmystery · 15/03/2021 00:31

@BookShark

And I'm in awe of anyone who can knit. It's a mystery to me. I've tried, and I can do the stitches, but I have no idea how to unpick it when I go wrong, or pick up dropped stitches. Maybe one day I'll have the patience to learn properly, but for now I'll stick to hooking!
My mum is a really good knitter (not that she has done it for years now) but she can’t pick up dropped stitches! She and her sisters used to get together every Wednesday so if she dropped a stitch she’d have to wait until Wednesday when one of them could fix it for her!
lazylinguist · 15/03/2021 07:14

I'm a reasonably decent knitter now, I guess, but I'm also crap with dropped stitches. They scare me! Crochet mistakes seem so much easier to deal with than knitting ones, even though I find the actual stitching easier in knitting.

I also have the dreamcatcher cardi on my to do list @lucysmam Grin either for myself or my mum or both! it's lovely and I love the colour it's in on the example!

I find a crochet hook works best for picking up dropped stitches

Buntyforgirls · 15/03/2021 09:51

@bruffin you're a bloody genius. I've just frogged 80 rows as toddler yanked my needles and the stitches were dropping through the next row. I couldn't work out how to fix it. Crochet hook I never even thought of it, thank you.

Scoobygang7 · 15/03/2021 16:30

@bruffin I could honestly kiss you ( I won't covid and you're a stranger). Although it's a bit loose in parts and a stitch had dropped way down it. I've managed to save it and I don't think anyone other than me will notice as it's on the back. I am so happy I don't need to frog it all.

bruffin · 15/03/2021 17:26

Your welcome @Scoobygang7 Smile

Hi everyone! I am still blasting away in baby clothes, they’re so easy and quick so nice and satisfying with minimal effort!

That's beautiful @Kate105

Mum looked at the photos of my knitting. She thinks I've accidentally turned half way along a row and then turned back (serves me right for stopping part way through a row). I also appear to have 81 stitches rather than the 75 I started with. Hmm
But I'm seeing her again on Wednesday so its on pause until she looks at it. I could unpick it and start again but then ill never know where I went wrong! Luckily I'm allowed a knitting support bubble Grin

NiceCardigan · 15/03/2021 19:27

@Buntyforgirls that basket is lovely - I like the flowers!

@Kate105 I used to love knitting for my DC when they were babies as it was so quick.

BookShark · 15/03/2021 22:25

Made a bit more progress on my Sophie's Universe tonight. I'm not enjoying it though, and there's still loads to go, but I'm determined not to give up!

It's partly the yarn - I'd seen it done in a whirl and thought it looked good, but it's so thin that it just makes everything really fiddly, and because the pattern requires you to work into stitches from previous rows, doing it all in one colour makes it quite tricky to work out which is which. Plus I think it's going to come up really small, so won't actually be useful for anything!

And then the pattern is so intricate that it requires lots of concentration - there aren't any rows which are just straightforward and repetitive - it's all back post crochet, crochet into the stitches from two rounds ago etc.

The problem is, I know that if I have a break from it and do something else, I won't go back to it, so I have to persevere. Anyway, whinge over, it's my own fault for being over ambitious in my yarn choices when the pattern clearly says to use a different yarn! I'm definitely choosing something more simple for my next project though.

BookShark · 15/03/2021 22:27

Oh, and this is it so far - looking at the photo, it doesn't look as complicated as I'm making it, but trust me, it is!

If its any comfort it looks gorgeous @BookShark.

Buntyforgirls · 16/03/2021 06:34

Thank you @NiceCardigan- it turned out smaller than I thought, but I really enjoyed the knit.

Kate105 · 16/03/2021 07:42

Oh @BookShark that looks gorgeous but I can’t even begin to fathom how complicated that must be! I am very much a lazy, no concentration in front of the telly kind of knitter 😂

sophs29 · 16/03/2021 07:56

@BookShark that is absolutely stunning!! I've been desperate to do a Sophie's universe blanket for so long but keep going back to the pattern and being put off by 1. The amount of yarn it requires Shock and 2. How complicated it will be haha!

CrochetBug · 16/03/2021 07:59

Same here @sophs29. Plus I can't decide what colours I want to do and as it will be such an expensive project it needs to be right !
