kate that’s really cute!

So... do you have a problem if you’re scrolling through FB and say “ooo, I like these” and your DH asks “more yarn?” Blush ... It was actually champagne flutes Grin

givemebooks · 17/02/2021 21:11

@givemebooks your blanket looks beautiful! I love those colours! Did you follow the colours in the pattern? Sorry I can't remember Blush
No you crack on, it's my sons 3rd birthday on Sunday so I won't get a chance this weekend either!

lazylinguist · 17/02/2021 21:45

Looking fab, @givemebooks! Definitely keep going - I've got nothing much going on atm, so I'll keep plodding on and hopefully catch up when others are busy at the weekend! I'm on the Popcorns section of Part 4.

I've been watching magic knot tutorials this evening - can I really cut the ends & just carry on with my row?

givemebooks · 17/02/2021 22:39

Thanks @sophs29 this is my first big project and I got my crochet hooks for xmas so i had no yarn/wool at all! So i just ordered the ones from the pattern!

Thank you too @lazylinguist this CAL has been amazing loving learning how to read patterns and so so many diffrent stiches and i love your grey and white theme 😍

sophs29 · 18/02/2021 07:33

Oh wow @givemebooks you're doing great! Well done! it's such a good way to learn new stitches isn't it Smile

@lazylinguist I'll be on that section next, I love how yours 'pop' with the white! (Excuse the pun) Grin

@lucysmam the magic knots tutorials always pop up on my Pinterest and YouTube but I've never watched properly or tried so I can't help I'm afraid!

lazylinguist · 18/02/2021 07:51

I'd never heard of magic knot until your post, @lucysmam, so I looked at a video. Looks really good. I'd be a bit nervous of cutting the ends off right against the knots, but I can see how it would work, as the two knots sort of pull against each other. Clever!

CrochetBug · 18/02/2021 08:01

I've never used the magic knot in crochet, only for making jewellery. It looks to me like it would leave a visible bump where the knot is, but I guess the only way to find out is to try!

Kate105 · 18/02/2021 08:21

I use the magic knot all the time! Nothing has unravelled... yet! 😂

lucysmam · 18/02/2021 09:07

@lazylinguist that's what I was wondering. Maybe I'll try it with my next join, but keep the ends for now.

@sophs29 it does look handy & not too complicated to master.

@Kate105 that's reassuring to see, I'm going to have a go at it when I next need to add to dd2's blanket.

Kate105 · 18/02/2021 12:36

I have a question for those who are able to do the witchcraft that is knitting two socks at once using the magic loop... Do you think it would work for two baby jumper sleeves as well?!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 18/02/2021 12:49

It definitely does Kate

Those look great Lazy and GiveMeBooks! It's facinating to see how the different colour schemes make them look, so different but both lovely.

lazylinguist · 18/02/2021 13:49

Just saw this on Instagram. I really like it - crocheted herringbone pattern!

Kate105 · 18/02/2021 15:06

Ok thanks @Flavia I’m going to be brave and give it a try!

sophs29 · 18/02/2021 17:52

Yarnspirations have some good patterns on there website!
That blanket is lovely @lazylinguist

Leaningtoweroflisa · 18/02/2021 19:01

Thanks spamm, jumper back into the UFO pile for now - always get a bit bored with bigger projects and I’ve not hit the timing point where it’s long enough to se the finish line.

Yes, it would be v cool if your skilled potter next door could make you a lovely yarn bowl . And then we could all admire it on here (and provide your neighbour with a load of orders!).

I’d banned myself from posting here til I finished my niece’s present (21st Feb). DONE AT LAST —started it before jumper and got bored— 😬 mermaid blanket complete!

Leaningtoweroflisa · 18/02/2021 19:11

I love all the CAL blankets and that woodland ripple one, tiswas, not quite enough to try learning to,crochet again - too many knitting projects to complete and brioche to learn —mess up repeatedly and throw down in a huff—

flavia oooh spinning! I am meant to be writing a workshop for a rescheduled conference but one of the side tracks I’ve gone down was a strand of thought about fairy tales (ie nothing to do with workshop) and the one where the heroine had to make shirts for her enchanted brothers from nettles.so rather than work on my presentation I’ve been researching making nettle fibre yarn... very interesting

InTheNightWeWillWish · 18/02/2021 20:47

lazy I love that link. Looks might I have to add signing up to insta as well as Ravelry on my to do lists...

So the puppy is coming along a bit. He’s not stolen my yarn for a few days now! He sniffed at some new yarn I got today but has done nothing else with it. However, I’m now trying to train older dog to retrieve my yarn when I drop it. She won’t pick it up 🙄Well she won’t, yet! But I’ve got her to bat the ball back to me from across the other side of the room. Older dog does gundog training (we don’t go on actual shoots) in normal times and we’ve done unusual retrieves. I managed to get her to retrieve some wire cutters, so a ball of yarn should be pretty easy...

eitak22 · 18/02/2021 21:22

Well I took a break from my shawl to make a couple of crochet squares to send to my mum. She can crochet but can't start blankets so have sent her two to continue. Looking forward to results.

Back to the pocket shawl, hoping to have it done this weekend.....

lucysmam · 18/02/2021 21:47

This is going to take a while...

I'm going to spend the weekend working on the little bear though for a break. & am considering ordering the yarn for the cardigan so I have something else to do alongside this since it's likely to be next winter before dd2 actually gets any use out of it.

@InTheNightWeWillWish - I only use Instagram for following knitting, crochet and yarn related accounts/hashtags and journalling ones. I don't post and don't really use it like social media, more like Pinterest- just for looking at pictures! There are seemingly infinite amounts of beautiful knitted stuff on there!

OP posts:
InTheNightWeWillWish · 18/02/2021 22:26

@lazylinguist I signed up to Pinterest initially to look at wedding hair. As I’m googling patterns, there’s usually a Pinterest link which I’ll click on and have a look through. I’ve not added crochet to my Pinterest but they keep sending emails with pins about knitting, crochet and yarn now. My Pinterest email this evening is half recipes and half crochet patterns. It’s scary how quick the algorithm works to pick up stuff you like! That’s partly why I’ve refrained from getting Instagram. But I suppose I could mess the algorithm up a bit and follow dogs and crochet Grin

lazylinguist · 18/02/2021 22:33

I don't let them send me emails- notifications all turned off! I much prefer Instagram now - I don't use Pinterest much any more. I

@lucysmam I love that blanket! And love the choice of yarn you've used! So pretty!
