@CrochetBug acrylic. I didn't think to include that 🙈

bloodywhitecat · 03/02/2021 17:11

Thank you.

My 50g 100% acrylic yarn is 150m but I am guessing what the yarn is made of will affect how long a 50g ball is.

lucysmam · 03/02/2021 17:16

Maybe. I'm too chicken to unravel one to see how long it is though 🤣

CrochetBug · 03/02/2021 17:16

Is the pound shop yarn? I think I've got some of that so could check the same brand. They do seem to vary!

lucysmam · 03/02/2021 17:35

Yep, the lighter one. I can't find anything on the sleeve to tell me how long it is.

If not, I'll unravel one with dd1's help, tomorrow, at some point.

I want to see if I have roughly enough to try one of the mandala patterns that's caught my eye for dd2's blanket.

CrochetBug · 03/02/2021 17:42

Sorry. There's no meterage on mine either.

lazylinguist · 03/02/2021 17:46

@Nicecardigan shock that is stunning!!!!
Is that Fair Isle then?

I think @NiceCardigan 's jumper is designed by the same person as the one I linked, and yes it's Fairisle. Fairisle originally described a specific style of stranded (i.e. carrying the yarn you're not currently stitching with) colour-work knitting from the Shetland Islands, but nowadays it essentially just means colour work knitting, where you're alternating between different colour yarns on the same row.

Never mind; it was worth an ask. Dd1 looks thrilled at the prospect of unravelling a ball of yarn...I'll call it payback for "boob heart" Grin

CrochetBug · 03/02/2021 18:05

Well as a rough guide the smallest size Sophies universe uses 18 50g balls.
The biggest one uses 53 Shock

So depending on how big you want it to be I'd say you need somewhere between the 2.

lucysmam · 03/02/2021 20:04

I didn't think to count them up! I wonder if the other gives a similar guide; I'll have to have a look and see.

I have 14 and a bit but Nanna goes to town almost every week so I could ask her to pick me a few balls up every time she sees it I suppose. Sure dd2 I'll find something to do with any I don't use.

CrochetBug · 03/02/2021 20:21

I didn't count them. I don't have time for that Wink the kits on WW tell you how many balls are in them Grin

lucysmam · 03/02/2021 20:25

Oooh, that's even smarter! Grin I had a quick look the other night at their kits but didn't pay that much attention to how many balls there were.

NiceCardigan · 03/02/2021 20:45

@PlinkPlink yes it is Fair Isle as Lazy said. I would call it modern Fair Isle though as it isn’t a traditional pattern. I have a book of wonderfully complicated designs by Mati Ventrillon that I’m working my way up to.

www.mativentrillon.co.uk/artisans.

PlinkPlink · 03/02/2021 20:49

Oh my, they look stunning! What kind of yarn do you use for it? I can't wait to give this a go!

NiceCardigan · 03/02/2021 20:53

I’m using Drops flora in 4ply for the jumper - it’s a mixture of wool and alpaca and is nice and soft

givemebooks · 03/02/2021 21:03

Evening all, I am still on with the CAL on the 4 row of larking around at the moment. Had to re do a few times as i was just messing up

Its been a heck of a day my husbands best friends furneral, he died of a sudden stroke, its been heart breaking

After everything today i sat to do some rows as its my relaxation and i messed up so much as i think my brain had just had enough today

Off to bed and to catch up on the thread :)

InTheNightWeWillWish · 03/02/2021 21:32

@givemebooks sorry to hear about your husband’s friend Flowers there’s no point trying to force yourself to crochet, especially after such a bad day.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 03/02/2021 21:56

The thread has moved so quickly today, I’m not able to remember who posted what but I love the little heart and the colourful hat.

I’ve had a few deliveries of new crochet stuff today, so spent the evening going through them. My mum tired crocheting but couldn’t get to grips with it, so she’s sent me the books she bought when trying to learn. She’s also picked up some sparkly yarn (not sure what order the photos will display but the white, silver and gold sparkly yarn). I forgot my mum mentioned she would be sending these books, so I also spent some of my Amazon vouchers from Christmas and ordered two books. Both blanket books. One book is for fairytale blankets for kids and I’m working out how much it will cost me to make my friend’s daughter a unicorn blanket.

Finally, my yarn for my mum turned up (the orange, green, purple and white one). My mum knits but only ever makes smaller things as otherwise the get too heavy on her needles. She never makes anything for her. So I’m hoping to make a big blanket for her with the yarn and send it to her for her birthday (April). So now I’ve got two big blankets on the go, so slightly poor planning on my part but the only plans I’ve got for the foreseeable future is puppy zoom class.

I've just finished the 6th row of Larking Around - I like this section!

@givemebooks sending hugs Thanks

@InTheNightWeWillWish that yarn is so gorgeous! And that book looks so cute! My DS1 would love that blanket on the front! You'll have to show us a picture of the unicorn one you'd like to do!

I'm now on the victory puffs part of the CAL, the larking around bit unfortunately all happened to fall into a similar colour scheme so I don't think it stands out that much but hey ho, I'm not fannying about and redoing it all Grin

Myshitisreal · 04/02/2021 00:03

@givemebooks I'm so sorry. That's just awful ♥ maybe take a few rows out tomorrow and try Again xx

Absolutely loving the rainbow hats.

CrochetBug · 04/02/2021 00:24

@givemebooks sorry for your loss Flowers

InTheNightWeWillWish · 04/02/2021 07:24

@sophs29 here are two from the book, the lion and the unicorn. There’s 10 patterns in total (although one is a fish and I can’t think of any kids I know that would be thrilled to dress up as a fish).

sophs29 · 04/02/2021 07:30

Oh wow @InTheNightWeWillWish what a lovely book!
Haha no, it doesn't really compare to a lion or unicorn does it Grin

Today is chemo day for DP, he's on his fifth cycle of GemCis for bile duct cancer, I didn't sleep well last night because I hate chemo day, I hate the thought that he is going to die and rather sooner than he should, I hate that he is going through this and I hate that I know what is to come. Foster Baby didn't sleep well last night either so he has gone back up for a nap, he is doing so well though, he's a happy little soul and tries his hardest every day to get where he wants to get to despite his brain injury. He is going to go far in life. I am sat here knitting while Foster Baby and the dog snooze. Thank heavens for knitting, it is very distracting.
