No, if you're doing it in the car, while driving, then it's private.

Fillyjonk · 17/02/2007 11:32

hmm

what about knitting on a bike? peddle with feet-should be doable.

but would it be kipping?

I knit in public - usually while waiting for DD & DS at school (am in the car but people can see what I'm doing). I teach music classes for babies and always at my venues early so out comes the knitting before anyone arrives!

suedonim · 17/02/2007 15:39

I'm sure I read somewhere that Scotland is bringing in a law to make it an offence to stop anyone from KIP-ing.

kikidee · 17/02/2007 16:46

I knitted on the train from Glasgow to Edinburgh and back again yesterday but was child free so it was easy to do but I did feel a tiny bit exposed. I have also taken it to soft play but tricky to pick it up and put it down again when I have to rescue DS. Have to say that socks are perfect for KIP as they are so portable.

Marina · 17/02/2007 16:58

Ha! Well I'm out and proud - I KIP on trains every day. There are advantages to having to commute
You do get some v. silly reactions though So I ipod as well so as to not have to hear them.

Miaou · 17/02/2007 17:02

Really Marina? Like "Do you think you are a granny" type comments?

Marina · 17/02/2007 17:05

More along the lines of

"'ere! Wot do you fink she's doing?" like I am not there or something . It's much more acceptable to eat Quavers at 7.30am, do a full make-up with eyebrow plucking, or break up with your dp, on a train, than to knit round my way
Knitting as trendy, edgy activity has really not hit Zone 4 in London yet!

I'd love to meet someone knitting, as I'd force them to teach me. It's lovely and it'd remind me of my childhood (when KIPping was still accettable )

fuzzywuzzy · 17/02/2007 17:43

I once watched a woman in utter facination as she knitted on the tube. She was knitting so fast, I thought it incredibly cool actually....But I think quite possibly it wouldn't be advisable for me to knit on trains and such because I might get told off for weilding sharp pointy metallic things in public.

fuzzywuzzy · 17/02/2007 17:45

oooh and I the lady doing the knitting went through zones 4 and got off in zone 1......There's a lady with a bag of knitting wondering round Holborn station.

ManchesterMum · 17/02/2007 17:50

I understood that knitting was now the height of cool and the favoured pastime of top models waiting around at catwalk shows and photo shoots. Downside is that you're supposed to move to Hoxton.

What a funny thread title!

Of course it's rude. Imagine preferring that to my scintillating conversation

ManchesterMum · 17/02/2007 18:16

It's OK, we can come out of the closet!!!

If you're willing to to go public click here otherwise, click here

Say it loud, we can clack needles very loud...

TenaLady · 17/02/2007 18:18

I love seeing the old art of knitting its a darn sight better than mobile phone chatter and ring tones!

TenaLady · 17/02/2007 18:18

However breast feeding is another matter

franca70 · 17/02/2007 18:22

would youi knit in front of your FIL?

ManchesterMum · 17/02/2007 18:22

Yes, I don't think they allow knitting in restaurants, TenaLady

ManchesterMum · 17/02/2007 18:23

Don't mind knitting in front of FIL, it's just the casting on & off that he finds embarrassing!

filthymindedvixen · 17/02/2007 18:30

has anyone used that stich 'n' bithc crochet book? Or can recommend a crochet for beginners book?

YES FMF I have used that book!

And from it I have learnt to crochet!

It makes it look utterly piss easy

the downside is that many of the patterns are so incredibly unrelentingly vile you will then not want to make any of them

but ho hum
