You can check in but you can never leave...

Sounds like it'd make an excellent Mini Hug, if it needs a home?

DeckTheHallsWithBoughsOfJolly · 13/12/2012 21:47

Pidj, I did not know that mini hugs could be made by one person. And I'm not into little 6" squares so didn't think I'd be involved.

I think I shall keep this one or give it to a friend, but my new year's resolution shall be to make at least two mini hugs next year (I've made two blankets in total this year!) :) Thank you for pointing me in that direction!

Curses to the person who linked to attic24's snowflakes up thread!Xmas Wink

I am supposed to be doing lines to finish this damn granny blanket but those snowflakes are very addictive!

Now I want to do them in different colours, and different sizes. Maybe a bit of sparkle....

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 13/12/2012 22:40

I've done about half a dozen of those snowflakes in white with sparkle in it wool, they are very lovely and I agree addictive, I've been timing myself doing them and trying to beat my record (15 mins currently).

Tobermory · 13/12/2012 22:44

Ooo if only I had wool with sparkle in it.

Have you been pinning yours to perfect the shape?
I ask though don't know much about pinning as have yet to pin anything!

How do I make them sparkle.... Water/PvA mix and a bit of glitter?

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 13/12/2012 23:05

The wool already has a sparkly thread through it, it is Wendy Peter Pan 4 Ply, colour 3000. I've tried pinning and spray starch but it didn't seem to make much difference so I haven't bothered for the last few. If you do try it don't make the mistake I did, I pinned onto dark coloured paper so i could see the shape properly but the spray starch dissoloved the ink into the wool and I had to wash them all. My granny used to use royal icing sugar and water to stiffen her crochet snowflakes.

Tobermory · 13/12/2012 23:16

Icing sugar? Really!
I don't think I'll be trying that particular method but might have a go with some pva in the morning!

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 13/12/2012 23:18

I might try PVA too, but worried that my sparkles might get blotted out by it.

I've been making Matt's snowflakes

I bought some acrylic yarn from poundland a few months back.... white with an irridescent white thread through it - perfect! I've been making them on a larger hook than the 4 you are meant to use with the yarn and haven't ironed or stiffened them as the yarn seems firm enough to hold the shame and I like the soft look.

Tobermory · 14/12/2012 08:10

Soupdragon, I have matts snowflakes page open, looking cow ale different ones. I was looking at it last night trying to figure out how much I needed to 'translate' to UK stitches.

I'm only a recent convert to crochet and think this emphasises the 'need' to buy wool through the year just to add to the stash. Buying more wool, mr Tobermory will be soooo very pleased!

DoesntTurkeyNSproutSoupDragOn · 14/12/2012 08:16

Cow ale you say... interesting... :o

I bought one ball of each colour Poundland had to offer and I think I got another ball of the white at a charity shop actually

Oooh - that reminds me. I have a box of little balls of lace yarn on my kitchen table - a £2 charity shop bargain! I had planned to make snowflakes with it. There was also what I assume is the beginnings of a lace shawl - it is beautiful but well beyond my skill I think. I hope I can use it as a trimming for something as it would be sacrilege to frog it.

Tobermory · 14/12/2012 11:04

Cow ale Xmas Grin. My typos are normally pretty poor but even I can't figure out what I was trying to type!
Cow ale it is!

DoesntTurkeyNSproutSoupDragOn · 14/12/2012 11:05

I thought maybe an autocorrect of to make :)

DeckTheHallsWithBoughsOfJolly · 14/12/2012 13:35

I need to make tea. But I want to crochet. Argh!

Jacksmania · 15/12/2012 19:17

Hello... can I join? I used to love crocheting, but hadn't for years, and this week my wonderful MIL, who never asks for anything but who does so much for us, asked if I could crochet her a scarf. I asked for help on a thread, got what I needed and rediscovered how much I used to love it :)

Pidj suggested I find you all here. So I did. I bring Wine, Brew, cake and chocolate.
I'm in a different time zone (GMT -8) so may post at odd hours...

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 15/12/2012 20:32

I finished PidjChick's Rudolph hat! Will try and get a pic to upload. It has antlers Xmas Grin

It's quiet in here

DeckTheHallsWithBoughsOfJolly · 16/12/2012 07:35

What are you all working on?

I'm making a blanket, as usual, but I might.do some snowflakes today.

We are getting our tree today!

DoesntTurkeyNSproutSoupDragOn · 16/12/2012 07:56

I'm still trying to finish the second Refuge blanket. I'm making the last square and then need to put it together and add the border. I want to make snowflakes, lots and lots of them and hang them all in my front window.

I wanted to make some presents but I can't see that happening.

aJumpedUpChristmasElf · 16/12/2012 11:06

I've just finished a little granny square blanket. Three quarters of the way through a hexagon blanket for the cat

I'm also making snowflakes and I have two half finished scarves. One is a straightforward shell pattern the other is made up of more complicated motifs.

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 16/12/2012 11:15

Rudolph hat for ds - done
Bootees commissioned by mw - one needs the upper, other just needs a button
Hat to match above - yet to start

Keeping it short due to new lifestyle Xmas Grin
