Yay, well done! Thanks

Achievements are achievements :o

Zwitterion · 01/11/2012 21:51

Well done!

What did you make?

I'm using an American pattern at the mo - getting very confused as doing SC quite happily then pattern changes to DC and I'm thinking, but I'm doing that already!Confused

SoupDragon · 02/11/2012 08:12

I've found that I am now bilingual wrt crochet terms and can do both without thinking. I actually have a slight preference for US terms but that may just be because most of the patterns I've used are American.

i should never have googled reindeer mug hug
look at all these!
I went "ooh, I could make that for my mum. and that and that and that and that and that"

nickeldaisical · 02/11/2012 10:27

Soupy - if I get an american pattern, I go straight to Word, replace all instances of double crochet with treble crochet, all single with double, etc etc.
(start largest because then you don't double up!)

but, like you, I can do both usually now - but my head translates - I hear that woman in the - when I see "double crochet" in a US pattern, I hear her go "double crochet" and my head knows it's a treble! Grin

It was part of a kitchen set for my sister - a trivit type thing for pots. A flat round circles with wavy petals on. So far the set consists of a tea cosy, cafetierre cosy, 6 egg cosies and a trivit. Can't think of anything else to go with it all, so I'll probably move on to my (ever-growing) ravelry queue next!

webwiz · 02/11/2012 17:00

Ooooh can I join in? I finally taught myself to crochet about a year ago after many previous failed attempts. I'm hooked now (see what I did there Smile) I'm currently working on my second Japanese flower scarf, DD1(21) has the first one and loves it.

ThePigOfHappiness · 02/11/2012 20:08

I finished these today.
I love them, can't wait to wear them tomorrow :)

droitwitchymummy · 02/11/2012 22:43

I found my crochet hook today. Looks scary...

Somersaults · 02/11/2012 23:07

That's only because you're still in Halloween mode. It'll be your best friend soon.

droitwitchymummy · 02/11/2012 23:17

I'll change back tomorrow and see if it looks any better Confused

droitwitchymummy · 02/11/2012 23:19

that should have been Hmm

PurplePidjin · 03/11/2012 06:05

Pig, love the owls! I was inspired to try them on a cable baby cardo I'm working on but, after 50+ froggings, it came out upside down Hmm so I'll try again later!

Droitwitch, imagine how i felt when presented with one of them jobbies for breaking waters recently... Put me off crochet for hours Shock

nickelrocketgoBooooooom · 03/11/2012 11:30

Pidj - it has to be upside down so the wearer of th cardigan can see it properly!

ThePigOfHappiness · 03/11/2012 12:45

It's done from the top down so maybe just try it as a panel to practice pidj?

Do keeps slagging me about the hook for arm, says i'm always ready with my crochet hook in hand!

Jules146 · 04/11/2012 07:14

Morning Brew lost you all for a while but glad to have found you again :)

PurplePidjin · 04/11/2012 07:47

I'm working a band around the sides/neck, so will do that (right hand) side plain to sew buttons on then do owls down the left, leaving gaps for buttons - that way I'll be working top down and Mr Owl will stop doing his bat impression Hmm

I'm making the 6mo size ready for PidjChick so it needs to be obvious to the outside world; he won't care know :o

SoupDragon · 04/11/2012 08:28

Not only will he know and care he will probably be able to tell you where you went wrong. :)

ThePigOfHappiness · 04/11/2012 08:36

Sounds good pidj :)
I just love handmade jumpers and cardigans on babies. So much so that my kids have both worn the stuff my mum and aunts made for me Blush
I really should make more for them

PurplePidjin · 04/11/2012 08:52

Dp's fairly liberal-minded, but I'm not sure how he'd react if his son took up crochet :o

I've got a few bits that were made for me, they've been in my mum's loft for 30 years! Babygrow+cardi=dressed as far as I'm concerned

SoupDragon · 04/11/2012 09:03

DS2 (11) tried crochet a few months back. Let's just say that his personality tends more towards the force of nature end of things.

it did not go well.

5yo dnephew is fascinated by sewing since i performed life-saving surgery on a toy crab in the summer - right in the middle of the paralympics, which led to an interesting conversation about sewing legs on in general Hmm
