Woolly, I'm not the person to ask! I think you put it through the top two loops...

But have you searched for Attic24's blog? She has really good photo tutorials showing exactly where to put the hook through the stitches.

I've just done her ripple pattern for a scarf Smile

SoupDragon · 09/07/2012 09:38

If I understand your question correctly, you put it under the whole stitch, not just one of the loops

A row of stitches, seen from the top: CCCCCCCCC

So, you put it underneath the wholeC rather than through just the top (back loop) or front (front loop). Having said that, Back Loop Only and Front Loop Only are valid crochet techniques which, amongst other things, give the little lines you mention.

You see, Soupy has answered your question perfectly! I meant the same thing, I was thinking along the same lines but just couldn't explain it!

SoupDragon · 09/07/2012 09:59

TBH, I rather think Attic24's photo tutorials are better :o

Does anyone know about Japanese charts? I've started on this flower scarf and am making a test piece - I've worked out that dc in the chart means treble, but I can't work out whether the stitches should be done into individual stitches on the row below, or whether they should be done around the chain - like on a granny square? (Does that make any sense?)

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 09/07/2012 22:49

have you a link to the chart daisybell? I can take a look at it for you and also link to the cyca doc for refering back to

Daisybell1 · 09/07/2012 23:17

It's this one - the top left (its a pdf)

Thank you!

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 10/07/2012 00:01

Hi, the first round of dc will go into the ring, then the popcorn stitches will come from each of those dc. Put the needle into the stitch indicated rather than under it. When you get to the outer rows where it is kind of lacy, you will see how it works more.
That chart is so handy to look back to. Japanese charts use US terms so they are a step behind UK terms (sc=dc,hdc=htr ,dc=tr etc)

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 10/07/2012 00:02

ps the scarf is lovely, really unusual :)

Daisybell1 · 10/07/2012 18:15

Thank you! I think I'm getting there, numerous attempts later... Trying it first with a bigger hook and fatter yarn which may give me enough for a scarf/flower hat for dd, and then on to choosing yarn for mine... (no pressure!)

Jules146 · 11/07/2012 15:55

RatherBeOnThePiste · 11/07/2012 16:06

I've never heard of a half treble treble. I would guess at one of each in the same stitch?

SoupDragon · 11/07/2012 16:09

OK, I assume it is this in which case there is a comma missing h=between half treble and treble. They are separate stitches in separate stitches (if that makes sense!)

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 11/07/2012 16:09

There is a stitch called a half treble, tis where you pull through all three loops on your hook in one go, instead of doing the regular treble thing

RatherBeOnThePiste · 11/07/2012 16:11

not heard of half treble treble but think what soupy said, maybe they is lacking in punctuation?

Jules146 · 11/07/2012 17:47

Thank you one and all :) Souoy you were right, that was indeed the one! will try again tonight!! And hopefully it will work... I did try half treble and treble in one stitch but what you said sounds better, many Thanks

Jules146 · 11/07/2012 17:48

Souoy?? Hmm let's try Soupy... Blush sorry!

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 11/07/2012 17:49

Blush The circle in the square is my pattern and I'm afraid that my punctuation is at fault, there should be a comma so it is half treble, treble

Sorry

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 11/07/2012 17:51

Jules - if it helps the sequence is symetrical so it goes
2 trebles (into the same stitch) one treble, half treble, half treble, double, double, double, double, half treble, half treble, treble, 2 trebles (into the same stitch)
