How do you know how to sell your paintings and also how to price the painting?

I have almost finished a painting I would like to sell, does anyone know the best way to go about selling it? How I would price it etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have no artistic bones in my body, so not sure why i even opened this thread. But just wanted to say, I loved the tree one! How much did it sell for?

LoveMyGirls · 09/03/2011 07:29

Thanks so much Jimswife it's great to get feedback on my work, the tree sold for £40.

I haven't finished my current painting yet, not sure if I should paint tonight or go swimming, I'm trying to lose weight but also want to get my painting finished so I can put it up for sale.........decisions decisions!

LMG - my dad is a painter (of the other sort) when it's important not to get dust on a freshly painted surface he suspends it upside down (tricky with a front door - but more doable with a painting) - good luck

Thanks KM, all tips much appreicated! Will have to put hooks in the ceiling to have space to hang them upside down Grin

I really like the tree one btw

LoveMyGirls · 10/03/2011 07:31

I think I'll do another tree one when I've finished the one I'm working on because so far that is the one most people have said they like Smile

Thanks Katy

A combination of the tree and the background from the fairy would be good, in greys and blacks. Or maybe I just have weird taste Smile

LoveMyGirls · 10/03/2011 14:19

Ohh yes that could be interesting, although I am doing a grey, blacks one at the moment (are you psychic?) I'll a pic on my profile for you to see, it's not finished yet though!

Ooo, that's nice Smile . I would def buy a £40er from you, if only I knew what I wanted, other than liking bleak and grey and trees Grin

LoveMyGirls · 10/03/2011 22:58

Let me know what you want and I'll do my best Grin

I need to think! I'm thinking storms/trees/clouds?!

LoveMyGirls · 11/03/2011 08:32

No rush Smile What kind of background? More like the fairy one but in moody blues/ greys?

What size would you like? I've got one 24x24 inch canvas left but am going to order more so you can choose the size if you like, I don't mind?

What kind of tree, like the tree I've already done but in different colours, maybe purples, blues, white with silver sparkles in places? Or a more realistic type one?

Then a fairy, maybe she could be sat under the tree or something? Could do her dress in any colour? What colour would her hair be?

I've put another pic on my profile of the eiffel tower to show you another sky I've done.

I'm liking the sky on the tower one. With the moon. Kind of like that, with a realistic tree (can you do scary tree??!!), and ooo yes with a sitting fairy! Not too cutey faced tho. With a forest green colour scheme for dress and hair? Am I a nightmare customer yet? Grin

jimswifein1964 · 11/03/2011 19:46

Hey, I know; stormy sky ,and she is sheltering? So not too happy looking! Or , how are you on realistic figures? Am thinking sheltering couple, kind of romantic and raggeddy?!

LoveMyGirls · 11/03/2011 19:56

Lol, not a nightmare yet Wink I've never painted a picture for anyone else so this will be a first for both of us but I'm happy & excited to give it a try Grin

Ok so sky similar to the tower one inc moon (what colour sky?) then realistic tree (will put a pic of a tree I've done on my living room wall on my profile, something like that maybe?) with or without leaves? Coloured tree or silouette tree & fairy?

If you can find a pic of a fairy you like and link then I could do that with slight changes in the colours you like? I'm thinking maybe brown with a tinge of auburn hair with forest green dress?

Do you want hints of sparkles on it or not?

Oh what size would you like?

If you like you can email me [email protected] to iron out the finer details?

Just read through this thread again, wow it seems like ages ago yet it was only about a year ago!

For those who wish to be nosey I've added more pics to my profile since then and I also have a studio now, I've changed my working hours so I have 10hrs per week to paint which is heaven!

I'm also involved in helping to run our local arts festival.

I haven't done a craft fare yet but I am planning to do one in the summer.

Thanks to those who contributed to this thread, it makes me smile.
