Has anyone had CVS test results before 2 weeks?

I have had a CVS test done last Tuesday and have been notified of the standard results that they check for but as we are being checked for rare genetic disease they have said 2 weeks. I am wondering has anyone had results before this? I am so anxious and time seems to be passing so slowly!

Hey I’m not much help sorry but I had my CVS today and am waiting for the results, did yours come within 3 days? I have a 1:3 chance of Down syndrome, the wait is hell already 😪

EggyBreads · 27/03/2023 19:46

I've had two CVS tests. The first was positive for what they were looking for and the call came before the two weeks was up, maybe 8 days or so? The second was good news, foetus tested negative and that took the full two weeks, the waiting is really hard. Try and do stuff to distract yourselves, cinema, easy reading books, boxsets of comfort tv that you've seen before. Good luck!

Totally depends on the genetic test that's being done.

I've had 2 CVS tests for a genetic disease, first took the expected 2 weeks but the result was inconclusive so they then had to grow the culture to have enough of a sample to retest. It had to grow for 2 weeks then the retest took another two weeks, so all in all I got a final confirmed result after 6 weeks.

Second test, they didn't have a big enough sample - the genetic test we were testing for is genetically very complicated, so they need a specific and large amount of a sample. So they grew it for two weeks, and the test took 2 weeks to run. So I got that result 4 weeks after the CVS.

Depending on the test it can take a while to be posted to the correct lab (there's only 1 lab in the UK that tests our condition), set up, then run, and then the results to be analysed. I know my condition the test actually takes a full week to run, so the extra week for set up and analysis makes sense.

@hannah202 you must be anxious too. I hope the results come as fast as they can for you! I got a phone call the next day after my CVS telling me results of Down Syndrome etc and gender. Fingers crossed all goes well for you.

@EggyBreads thanks for your advice! I found out I was pregnant so early and knew I would be in this position if I ever fell pregnant, the wait is like torture, I’m just hoping for the best outcome possible. Sorry that you had to experience that the test was positive. That must have been difficult 😓

@pebbles3004 The genetic test I am being tested for is Tay-Sachs disease, as my youngest child passed away as a result of it. I know it’s rare and my chances are 1 in 4.

Wow I feel bad moaning about my wait, that is such a long time and must have felt forever to you! I never knew that was a possibility to happen, I just thought if they collected enough sample it could be tested. That sucks! Thank you for the information. Yeah that makes sense considering the process.

thank you everyone for your kind and helpful advice ☺️

@Mumma29x I'm so sorry to hear your little one passed away with it. I hope you had good support and you are ok.

My condition is 50/50. We've had one healthy little boy who is now 2, and we lost a baby at 17 weeks due to the condition 4 months ago.

We're now TTC again as I would love a second child, both for us and for our little boy. It just sucks that we only have a 50% chance of this happening. But, its the card we've been dealt so we've accepted it. I hate it, but I've accepted it.

So anyway, my point is that I can relate - sending you a huge hand hold, and I have everything crossed that you will get a positive outcome from this CVS x

OT06 · 29/03/2023 08:01

It's a real nightmare what we all are going through. I had the CVS on Monday too, was given 1:5 for Down. I have 2 healthy daughters, and this came as a complete shock. The wait is killing me from the inside. Praying for the best outcome for everyone 🙏

Mumma29x · 29/03/2023 23:11

@pebbles3004 thank you! I have two older children and supportive partner and would have been lost without them 😢

Also, sorry for your loss too, that’s also must be difficult knowing that it’s 50/50. Good luck on TTC, really hope all goes well for you. I feel the same, it’s not nice but have accepted it as its genetics and we can’t change them.

sending you big hugs also 🤗x

I'm still waiting, they were supposed to call today but they didn't. Hopefully tomorrow...

honeybunsleo · 30/03/2023 18:32

CVS results first lot were the next day, second lot were a week later and the third which came from Birmingham for bws were 5 weeks later xx

pebbles3004 · 30/03/2023 19:35

@Mumma29x I'm so pleased for you ❤️

OT06 · 31/03/2023 07:44

I got my results late last night, unfortunately I was that 1 in 5 and the CVS confirmed Down. I'm going for a termination next week. Good luck to everyone who is going through the nightmare of waiting and wishing you all to hear good news ❤️

Mumma29x · 31/03/2023 15:57

@OT06 really sorry to hear this. I've been there, 3 months ago today actually. You're not alone. Sending love and strength x

pebbles3004 · 06/04/2023 21:36

@OT06 how are you? Hope you are ok and being kind to yourself x

OT06 · 06/04/2023 22:34

Hi ladies, thank you for your nice words and support ❤️ honestly I'm in a little hell... due to Easter and NHS strikes, I'm still waiting for a termination date. Not only was it so hard to deal with this and make the decision, but now I have to wait weeks carrying on. I still haven't told my kids and seeing them so excited and keep asking questions about the baby it's ripping my heart off piece by piece....

CharTT33 · 06/01/2024 09:14

Hey I know this thread was created a while ago, but what CVS procedure did it everyone go for? Was it the transvaginal one or was it the transabdominal one? As I’m currently going through this now xx

geminigalx · 06/01/2024 17:45

@CharTT33 I had the transabdominal CVS about 2 weeks ago, but tbh I was never really given a choice about which I would prefer. I just closed my eyes and didn't look, and it was slightly uncomfortable but not painful and over very quickly. Hope yours goes well xx

CharTT33 · 06/01/2024 18:32

@geminigalx Thank you so much for your reply.. please don’t answer if this is too much.

what were u getting tested for ?
how far along were you?
How long was the recovery procedure?
Did you get the results ?

Honeslty i am a nervous wreck! 🙃🙃

Chouxbun · 06/01/2024 19:09

Hi CharTT33,

I hope you don't mind me responding, I had a CVS done on Thursday at 13 weeks. It was in the tummy. When we got there the consultant scanned me and had a good look at the baby, then we went to a one of those calm rooms with tissues to talk to the midwife about what a CVS is like. The staff were all so kind and answered any questions we had. I had to have a full bladder so drank water.

The procedure itself was ok, a bit nerve wracking but not really painful. They poured alcohol liquid all over me which was quite messy. Then they injected anaesthetic which stung quite a bit in the tummy, then I didn't feel pain but had to stay really still when they put the needle in to collect the sample. I just held hands and looked at my partner and he talked to me, I wasn't allowed to talk during it. It's a quick procedure maybe 5-10 minutes. Then we went back into the calm recovery room and the midwife made us a cup of tea and brought biscuits. Another Dr came and took blood from both of us, then the midwife came back to check we were ok. We then booked in a heart scan for 16 weeks and went home.

Recovery wise I've felt delicate in the stomach area and have taken it easy for a couple days since. I took some paracetamol on the day. Just a bit sharp and sore when moving but nothing really painful. I think I'll be back to normal by tomorrow or Monday (3 days).

I'm now waiting for the results which is excruciating already. The first set will be 3-5 days, then 2-3 weeks for the full results.

Good luck with your CVS and feel free to message me. It's an awful worrying thing to go through 💐

geminigalx · 06/01/2024 19:10

@CharTT33 no it's absolutely fine, I was also so stressed & found mumsnet helpful to read. We had an NT of 4.2mm and I was just over 14 weeks when I had it done. We got the rapid results back in about 4 days & the microarray back in just over 2 weeks (but there were delays because of the Xmas bank holidays). It did feel like a long wait but I tried to keep myself busy and distracted. I had a bit of period like pain the night I had it done but only mild, and then the next day I spent in bed as I was working from home but they did say that some people can't do that with work & other children etc. and it's only advised to rest. Have you got a date to have yours done? Xx

CharTT33 · 06/01/2024 19:50

@Chouxbun thank you sooo much for replying! That’s very detailed! Really means a lot. I will most probably message you privately.. I hope you receive the results you want… I have a new found respect for this whole thing called pregnancy.

💐💐

CharTT33 · 06/01/2024 19:53

@geminigalx Thank you! This has made the cvs testing much clearer. I have not yet got my date as I’ve got to make an appointment to speak to a specialist first. I just want to get it done so I can move forward… This whole procedure is just dreadful.
