My dd1 had her 12 weeks scan today and they found a couple of things on her scan ( she's heartbroken) they is a thickness in baby's neck, and the bladder is very prominent and has a circle round it. She has to go to Leeds to the fetal medicine place.anybody else had same thing think she's also had a test for downs but not 100% sure she was sobbing that much.

Do they know what they will do? Me abs DH have had 2 terminations fir different medical reasons. What helped me was that we were both in agreement.

mumof31968 · 25/02/2023 18:18

No they have no idea she's has two kids 10/12 This is new baby with her boyfriend. Her other pregnancies was all fine. They just heartbroken she's already lost one baby due to miscarriage. She's only 30

I had 12 week and they found a mass in babies belly. Was referred to fetal medicine. Fetal medicine are amazing, they are such experts, the scans are so detailed and it's usually a quick turn around, I expect they will offer her a cvs test depending on what they see. Tell her not to worry, it isn't always bad news, maybe news that's going to change how she thought the pregnancy was originally going to go. They thought my baby had a chromosome defect, all tests came back clear, she does however have her liver and bowel outside and will require surgery, but she's going to be ok!
Go in with an open mind, And tell her to write down any questions she may have. Xx

I don't know how to send a private message, I'm so sorry :( how is your daughter doing?

mumof31968 · 03/03/2023 09:24

The baby has Caudal regression syndrome. . She didn't want invasive testing and has to go back in three weeks to assess the baby, to continue the pregnancy or to terminate. Did nothing but cry yesterday. My poor DD they just said it's a rare condition 1-2.5 per 100,000 newborns.

Really hope you, your daughter and family are okay. Such unexpected news for you all. Lots of hugs 💐

TomatoSandwiches · 03/03/2023 18:03

Hi op, sorry to hear your DDs news, it must be a terrible shock.

I wanted to let you know my youngest also has a form of this called Sacral agenesis syndrome, it is a condition that has a spectrum of symptoms some mild and some severe, but even at its worst form life is still nearly always compatible.
The syndrome alone doesn't indicate a higher risk of learning/mental disabilities at all.
As sad as it is, it is also very positive they have been able to diagnose this now so plans can be put in place post birth, ultrasounds unfortunatley miss up to 50% of congenital defects/malformations, which is what happened to us with no time to prepare.

I would recommend your DD get a special note book she can jot questions she wants to ask the consultant when she sees them next as you get caught up in appointments emotionally it can be difficult to remember what you had previously been wanting to know.

Good luck and I will keep my fingers crossed for you and your DD.
