Feisty fucker would have been the perfect description for my lovely lady. She was a sweetheart at home and a demon at the vets!
The cages where animals are kept are away from the public area.
What, exactly, is your problem with this?

BackToOklahoma · 06/09/2023 08:44

I would change vet. We have vets in our family and I know they wouldn’t think this was ok. I don’t think it means the cat wasn’t given the correct care necessarily but it just seems off and doesn’t sit right with me at all.

BusinessClass · 06/09/2023 08:46

I think it's hilarious!

FabulousFork · 06/09/2023 08:47

OMG. 😑

No you shouldn't boycott this vet.

Did you know vets have the highest suicide rate among any professionals? They are at high risk of serious injury and earn a pittance considering their education, shift work and responsibility.

Stop this witch hunt.

NoSaladThanks · 06/09/2023 08:53

It wouldn't bother me, as long as my pet was cared for correctly then they could write what they wanted.
Mardyarse would have been perfect for mine.

NeedTheSeaside · 06/09/2023 08:58

I would.

The cat was dying, a poorly sad limp thing. There was no chance of it being a fiesty fucker.

I'd be so upset if I took my cat to a vets to die & found this on their cage.

If my cat was generally well and was a fiesty fucker I'd be fine with it.

no cats can't read, but owners whose cat is dying can!

InTheTreeHouse · 06/09/2023 09:27

I'd find another vet.

CoffeeCantata · 06/09/2023 09:34

Links on their own are really annoying - and very lazy.

I wish OPs would take the trouble to explain their point clearly as well as including the link for those who don't mind clicking on them.

lomondlady · 06/09/2023 09:38

Vets have a tough job, I certainly couldn't do it! However, the cat in the picture is a tiny wee thing, who was dying. I refer to my cat as a dick a lot (he can be 🙊) but I wouldn't expect professionals to write 'fucker' on his cage as he was dying 🤷🏻‍♀️ There are other words that could have been used if the animal was aggressive, imo.

MereDintofPandiculation · 06/09/2023 19:58

Mind, I wouldn’t allow a photo of my dying cat to be used in a tabloid (or any) newspaper, either

fairyfluf · 06/09/2023 20:01

Are you already a client of the vet? If not it's pointless. If you are of course you're not unreasonable, you don't HAVE to go to that vet

HunterHearstHelmsley · 06/09/2023 20:09

It would annoy me. I call one of my cats ginger twat but I wouldn't be impressed if my vet wrote that on his cage. Particularly if he was being put to sleep.

It's like.. You can slag off your sister but if someone else slags off your sister... It's war.

It just doesn't sit right.

morknmindi · 06/09/2023 20:11

Change vet.

Anyone working with animals knows that the pets may lash out if they are in an unfamiliar place with the smells of all the other animals and may be in pain and not wish to be handled.

The cat is not a fucker for trying to protect itself.

'Nervous/anxious may bite or scratch' would be appropriate. Or nothing at all as they should always be careful when handling sick animals.

OP probably doesn't know that. Mostly because it's not true.

WillowCraft · 06/09/2023 20:12

Second, Vets are not like Doctors, they are businesses and far too many are there to make money first and care for animals as a secondary issue

Stupid comment. Did you think doctors work for free? They earn double what vets do. Or is it ok to get paid for work as long as it doesn't involve animals? If vets didn't charge who would pay for the premises, equipment, etc?

ChocolateCinderToffee · 06/09/2023 20:20

I don’t give a monkey’s what they call my cat. I have addressed him as ‘you bugger!’ in their presence when he bit me while having his temperature taken.

morknmindi · 06/09/2023 20:24

There is a post on Facebook where people have posted their negative treatment of their pets at the same practice.

Example -

'Well done Jack for taking the initiative, the poor lady must be heartbroken. We have also had some bad experiences with that awful place over the years, thankfully we’ve only ever been registered with Desmond at Eden park who in contrast is totally amazing, but we’ve have had to use medivet/foxgrove twice as an emergency and the service was awful. The vet was rude and aggressive, service was poor and they have such a lack of empathy. Happy to put this in writing if helpful. I’m surprised they’ve survived this long.'

The post. You have to join the group to post a comment -

Vikingess · 06/09/2023 20:27

No . Like any right thinking person, you should boycott the Daily Mail.

ChocolateCakeOverspill · 06/09/2023 20:28

BellaAndDave · 06/09/2023 08:26

It would be very apt for my cat, he is a fucker.

Mines a proper twat

knowyournumbers · 06/09/2023 20:36

The thing that's annoying me about this article is that it doesn't give the animals name. If it was similar and scrawled it could be misread. If it wasn't similar and couldn't be that why not say what its name is.

BlackberryCrumbs · 06/09/2023 20:39

Cat owner felt devastated, like he'd been abused, will be taking it further etc 🙄

Did anyone say compo?

Ridiculous overreaction.

RocketPanda · 06/09/2023 20:48

Seeing as they haven't named the animal in the article I'd hazard a guess the cat was called Flicker or something like that that looked like Fucker when written.

One of our Foster cats will only answer to being called Dickhead because he is a dickhead. He will piss on the other cats.

Missingmyusername · 06/09/2023 20:50

YANBU just like hospitals, veterinary practices are not inhabited by angels, yes of course some do it for the love of animals and all that, but they don’t ALL obviously 🙄 that would be a ridiculous blanket statement. Simply not true.

For me, yes could have been a joke, likely was - but it’s extremely bloody unprofessional isn’t it? How cringeworthy for the clinical director to have to apologise and make an excuse. Insensitive, crass, bad taste ? All of those things. I would have thought that obvious to a reasonable, ordinary person.
Have a code ffs, it’s not rocket science if the cat is a bit bitey, you don’t scribble “fucker” on the white board and take a photo and send it to the client.

How do you feel about the vet OP and the care the animal receives? Is there a high turnover, different vets every time? Different staff? What are the reviews like?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/09/2023 20:50

Our old cat had "Aggressive" on her Vet notes as she did take a mean turn when she was having a tick pulled from her leg ( understandably )

I would not like to think what our two present cats would have written.
But I would hope if they were ever to stay as in-patients there would be a warning symbol rather than a swear word written especially if they were dying .

And I cannot seriously believe anyone would be happy to have "Fucker" wrotten on their cat's cage .
