@FabulousFork nope. That’s not true. Also, estate agents are right up there, along with electricians say google - so don’t mess them around either! I’m willing to bet other factors are involved besides profession, is even true or did you google? As the ‘list’ has been debunked.

I wouldn’t risk my pet if I thought my vet was taking the piss.

Mammma91 · 06/09/2023 20:57

I understand completely that it’s probably upsetting for the owners. I had my cat fixed and when the vet called to let me know all went well, she said he was a ‘fiesty little one!’ Which my exact response was yes he’s a fiesty fucker and she laughed and said she couldn’t say it in those words but she agreed and we both laughed. She also told me once he was less anxious he was lovely, which he also is. I think sometimes it’s taking things with a bit of humour instead of being immediately offended but I can understand it’s a beloved pet and you don’t want to believe there’s some mistreatment going on. If your unhappy, I’d take my pets for treatment elsewhere. Not everyone will see a funny side to it.

Coka · 06/09/2023 21:03

The fact the cat was dying makes it seem very insensitive.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 06/09/2023 21:04

RocketPanda · 06/09/2023 20:48

Seeing as they haven't named the animal in the article I'd hazard a guess the cat was called Flicker or something like that that looked like Fucker when written.

One of our Foster cats will only answer to being called Dickhead because he is a dickhead. He will piss on the other cats.

I'd be absolutely distraught if I went to see my dying pet and someone supposed to be caring for them had been so callous.

However. I think you may be right with the 'Flicker' / similar suggestion. Because although it's blurred out in the news article, I can see it has speech marks around the word. Why would anyone do that for anything except the name of the animal?

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 06/09/2023 21:10

Although, having said that, I've seen an unblurred photo and it's not really possible it says anything else...

Best case scenario a mishearing of the name, or the name of a previous patient I guess?! I just don't see the point of the speech marks if it's not to show it's the pet's name!

To think we should boycott this local vets?
RedPandaFluff · 06/09/2023 21:35

I'm surprised at how many people are saying it wouldn't bother them - I'm not a sentimental person but if my cat were dying, and I saw this written on his enclosure, I think I'd find it upsetting. It just feels a little disrespectful and cold somehow. Perhaps it's the photo - the poor cat does look in a bad way; and is clearly suffering. It's very sad.

morknmindi · 06/09/2023 21:44

Quite a few people also experiencing a bad time at that VERO art practice.

The owner of the cat does not use that vet as their normal vet, they only took the cat their as it was out of hours.

wagnbobble · 06/09/2023 21:49

Sorry but I’d be proud - it meant the people looking after him got his personality - my 18 year old boy is notorious at our vets and neighbourhood and fucker would be the politest way of describing him

Borris · 06/09/2023 22:09

I work at a vets and that would never happen where I work. We might write spicy, care, nervous or extreme care. When we write in quotation marks then that is the pets name which doesn't make much sense here.

Yes, sad is how it makes me feel too (assuming it’s true). It’s one thing joking about a feisty cat that’s essentially healthy (although I find all the ‘my cat’s a total dick’ stuff pretty cringeworthy), but joking about a dying cat comes across as callous. It’s not about whether the cat can read. It’s about not wanting anyone who finds a suffering cat humorous anywhere near my pets.

Unless something isn't displayed correctly, I'm not sure what you mean.
Can you not see my post with a link to a news article?

Nobody wants to click on a daily mail link

Megifer · 06/09/2023 22:14

Ahhh this is awful the poor owner. Id be really upset, the poor little thing was very unwell and the owner trusted the vets to care for her puss only to see them refer to the cat as "fucker". It just conjures up images of them not being very compassionate at all towards a beloved pet who was dying.

I'd be absolutely gutted. Yanbu at all. Find a new vet. Twats.

SheilaWilde · 06/09/2023 22:19

I don't understand why people are being so mean. The op's cat was dying and she saw that they'd written 'Fucker' on his cage. Daily Mail aside if I went to say goodbye to my cat in their last throws of life I'd be very upset to find 'Fucker' written on his cage.
It also shows a complete lack of sensitivity and professionalism.

purpleme12 · 06/09/2023 22:20

@housingcris1s I can completely see why you want to change vets.
This is shocking!
I think this goes beyond them not caring.

WiddlinDiddlin · 06/09/2023 22:24

Written in quotation marks tends to be the pets name. alerts to behaviour wouldn't be in quotation marks, and would be things like 'bitey' 'spicy' 'angry' etc.
I would be interested in knowing what the cats name actually was...

Maybe someone was being a dick and forgot to rub it out, maybe it was written on the kennel when another patient was in there, perhaps one of the staff's pets (thinking of the time my vets own dog was in, and his kennel had TWATDOG written on it!).

As long as they treat my animals with patience and kindness, I couldn't give a shit the language they use when labelling kennels, my pets can't read! (And would all answer to 'fuck face' or 'fuckwit' quite happily anyway!).

Catusrusty · 06/09/2023 22:27

There's absolutely no way I would be taking my beloved pet to them.

What a complete bunch of uncaring, unprofessional cunts to write that on someone's dying pet's cage. Absolutely no compassion whatsoever. That poor owner must have been devastated knowing her cat's final hours had been spent in the company of people like that when she trusted them.

And fuck me, the level of prissyness on here over looking at the daily mail is so ridiculous it's comical.

Megifer · 06/09/2023 22:42

There is simply no way this was left behind from a cat actually called Fucker, a vets pet, a game of hangman or a ghost communicating. Its unmissable what with it being written in giant black capital letters.

Some absolute knob of a vet or nurse has written that on thinking they are edgy - how funny, this cat probably in real pain and confusion is a bit difficult, let's write Fucker on the plexiglass teehee. They should be given a disciplinary for bringing the vets into disrepute at the very least.

Cadenza12 · 06/09/2023 22:50

I would be upset too. A dying animal needs to be treated with kindness and compassion. Whoever wrote that displayed neither

GrimGrinningGhosts · 06/09/2023 23:18

Ridiculous.
of course cats can read, the sneaky bastards just don’t want you to know about it

I regularly refer to my dog as knob head. He can absolutely be a knob head. The cat in question was probably a little fucker. If it were a pet of mine and that was written on his crate I think I’d laugh.

edited to add. Not clicked any of the links so don’t really know the full story other than the pic. Shame if it died though.

Blanketpolicy · 06/09/2023 23:50

I lost a much loved pet very recently. Never would I have contemplated taking photos as he was in his last moments dying and sharing those photos in the newspapers or social media. I find that just as, if not more, disrespectful than how the warning of the cats temperment was written.

I would 100% boycott. It shows a lack of care and empathy.

I want to know that my cats are safe during overnight stays without me there. Not subjected to someone who swears at them and could be rough with them or impatient.
