Who told workers at an immigration centre to paint over colourful artwork of cartoon characters in an immigration centre accepting children because it was too "welcoming".

So will this come up on any of rhe shows?

It's gone a bit quiet in the media this week about it

LlynTegid · 09/07/2023 08:29

When it comes to allegations of corruption, he is in the top 10 of Tories for sure.

I don't believe you're comfortable about the decision to paint over these murals in an asylum center for children?

Victoria Atkins - "I'm not comfortable with the idea that people bring children across in these boats.."

From today's i newspaper.
Mr Sunak's spokesman suggested the decision designed to "deter" asylum seekers from crossing the Channel as part of the Prime Minister's promise to "stop the boats".

Asked whether painting over murals would deter asylum seekers he replied: "We do want to deter people from making these crossings"

One former child refugee said the order was "an act of abject cruelty.

So there you have it folks. PM Sunak agrees with Jenrick's petty minded cruelty to children. And his "plan" to stop the boats is to paint over artwork for children at the expense of the tax payers.

You couldn't make this shit up.

You just couldn’t. And do they even know what ‘deter’ means? These kids can’t look the unit up on Tripadvisor before they get here. Once they get here, they can’t decide they’ll hop on a plane back again.

LadyWithLapdog · 09/07/2023 13:21

“Abject cruelty” sums it up. Well done, Tories. Sinking lower every day.

I mean, there’s not a fat lot to say is there? Tory is spiteful and doesn’t deny it. it’s basically in the handbook for them at this point.

Notonthestairs · 09/07/2023 13:40

Why was my post deleted?

There were no personal insults. I wasn't troll hunting.

I just pointed out Tory ministers haven't even tried defending Jenrick's instruction. The instruction isn't a vote winner and achieved nothing.

I did say it was petty and spiteful act from a petty spiteful Government.

As far as I am aware I am allowed to voice that opinion.

jgw1 · 09/07/2023 14:04

If ones whole existence involves being petty and spiteful, one do they get so upset when it is pointed out?

DuncinToffee · 09/07/2023 14:15

Cruel and proud, no?

It's what their policies are, Stop the Boats and the Rwanda scheme

Notonthestairs · 09/07/2023 14:57

Not a single minister has been able to defend it.

They can't stand by the policy. They can't even acknowledge they did it!

They know they've lost the argument.

They know voters wouldn't want to be associated with such a vindictive & frankly pointless act.

Pathetic and craven.

This should be interesting

They have an ex border officer suggesting it could be part of a makeover

IClaudine · 10/07/2023 12:48

I saw this on FB.

Paint over Mickey Mouse
Burn Where the Wild Things Are
Pulverise the lego
Set fire to the Christmas tree star.
Seize all the teddies
Bury every skipping rope
Paint the walls dark brown
Abolish all hope.

Michael Rosen.

I was screaming at the radio at that point - it’s only been open since November, ffs!

It was heartening that the majority of comments were as appalled as I am.

That seemed such a "whataboutery" and it was clear that the allegation is that it was to make the place feel less welcome.

Thanks @IClaudine That’s a short but poignant poem.

Asked by @AlfDubs about disgraceful actions of @ukhomeoffice to remove cartoons from Kent reception as they are 'too welcoming for children', Minister says:
'It is the correct decision these facilities have the requisite decoration befitting their purpose'
Shameful cruelty

cakeorwine · 10/07/2023 22:30

"It is the correct decision these facilities have the requisite decoration befitting their purpose"

I wonder if some people can here themselves.

Blossomtoes · 10/07/2023 23:05

I don’t know how they can sleep at night.

LadyWithLapdog · 10/07/2023 23:37

I hope Jenrick is squirming with shame and feels like a louse when he has to explain to his own children what he does in a day’s work.

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/07/2023 00:41

The government are very scripted in their reluctance to criticise Jenrick.Angry To paraphrase Manic Street Preachers "If we tolerate this, then our children will be next."
