Who told workers at an immigration centre to paint over colourful artwork of cartoon characters in an immigration centre accepting children because it was too "welcoming".

That's a new one.

It goes in the never happened box. How would global corporations know a British nursery used the images? And why would they care?

I am still waiting for her opinion on lying to parliament... Something Jenrick is quite familiar with

I am eager to hear their opinion on whether appointing a known sex pest to a position of pastoral responsibility is acceptable.

Its good to know you are still here and still arguing on the side of the cruel and inhumane

Not at all - I haven't said I agree with the Rwanda policy and I wouldn't want Spain's interior minister;
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/mar/06/spanish-minister-defends-police-accused-brutality-melilla-border

So you will join me in condeming Jenrick's cruel and inhumane jesture then?

Jenrick : "On reflection, the decision to paint over the murals was too harsh and in recognition of my own poor judgement regarding this, I'm rolling up my sleeves and getting out my paints and brushes and am going to paint a new mural myself"

Here it comes......without any shadow of a doubt, he will use this as a PR stunt.

Watch, there will be loads of pictures of him, shirt sleeves pulled up holding a brush saying:
"Look at m!. Here I am painting a mural to welcome refugee children. Aren't I a lovely bloke" - whilst leaving out the ugly truth that it was him who ordered the original murasl to be removed.

I have the same rage when Tory MPs open or volunteer at Food Banks.
What the hell do they think they are playing at?
It is their policies that have caused the rise of Food Banks .

Yet they expect to be praised or think they look good when they go and volunteer at one.

The mind boggles.

DuncinToffee · 08/07/2023 14:26

If only Jenrick had thought of that excuse.....

That would suggest that Jenrick is capable of thinking.

Clavinova · 08/07/2023 14:34

But you do agree with painting over the murals?

I would definitely keep the flower mural in the outside space and several smallish murals in the inside room if age appropriate. Where are Winnie the Pooh and Baloo painted? Any more characters? It could look a bit bonkers on the wall we can't see. How many families with young children have used the room in the last 6 months?

I take it as a yes then that you do agree with removing murals of Mickey, Baloo and Winnie as too welcoming/

While you are sharing your opinions @Clavinova do you think it acceptable to appoint a known sex pest to a position of pastoral responsibility?

Eveninginparis · 08/07/2023 10:54

@FixTheBone It's fucking captioned .

Does that make it true ??

No, but it makes my point that people will juts believe what they want, even when spoon-fed the necessary information to go find out for themselves.

There's an image source.

You can very easily search off that and find the actual. Image source.

If you really want, you could also do a reverse image search and check it hasn't been lifted from anywhere else.

Took me around 90 seconds.

TooBigForMyBoots · 08/07/2023 14:49

His grandparents were Jewish wartime refugees which makes it even viler.

It's his wife's parents who were refugees, his children's grandparents. He has previously campaigned for a Holocaust Memorial highlighting the mistakes and misteps of the UK's response to Jewish refugees who came here fleeing the Nazis. Bet there were "interesting" conversations around his breakfast table this week.

He is the epitome of a virtue signalling hypocrite.Angry

All we get is you refusing to condemn willful cruetly.

Fair enough, it takes all sorts.

ExtraOnions · 08/07/2023 14:56

He’s done it, because he thinks it’s a vote winner

Now, imagine you are in his constituency.. he thinks that you are the kind of person who thinks giving comfort to scared children is a bad thing.

Thats what thier MP thinks of them

Kick them out

Ah, a mistake on my part; thank you for clarifying.

You're not answering the question.

Do you think that is ok to paint over the murals so to make it less welcoming to children?

I didn't ask about what you would keep.

Go on @Clavinova , I know you can do it. Even Farage did.

Notonthestairs · 08/07/2023 15:30

It's fascinating watching Tory supporters try to fashion some sort defence to Jenrick's order without being able to come out and say openly that they agree with the policy and wanted it carried out. Instead they can't directly be associated with it.

It tells me that they know the policy would be rejected by voters.

The best they can do is either pretend it didn't happen at all or tinker round the edges of the argument in the hope of casting a soupçon of suspicion on every media report.

Desperate times I guess.

IClaudine · 08/07/2023 15:31

Why are people making up daft reasons why the murals were painted over?

Jenrick ordered them covered up because they were too welcoming. If this is untrue, the Home Office has had days to set out the real reason. It hasn't.

It is definitely true. After the staff refused to paint over them, the Home Office sent in contractors to do it.

It’s just plain evil isn’t it? Even Farage recognizes that.

You’d have to be a total sicko to defend it.

TooBigForMyBoots · 08/07/2023 22:15

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet why was my 15:32 post deleted? It was not a personal attack nor was it troll hunting and if @Eveninginparis was in my company it's a question that I would ask IRL.
